Chitosan has been utilized as a popular biopolymer to fabricate hydrogels for biomedical applications. However, chitosan hydrogels are generally too brittle to mimic the deformability of the extracellular matrix in many tissues and organs. In particular, the role of the varied crosslinkers in determining the elasticity of chitosan hydrogels is lack of discussion. Here, three aldehyde-functionalized crosslinkers (i.e., aldehyde-modified poly(xylitol sebacate)- co -poly(ethylene glycol) (APP), glutaraldehyde (GA), and polydextran aldehyde (PDA)) are used to react with quaternized chitosan (QCS) through imine bonds to form hydrogels. The microstructures, mechanical performances, and cytocompatibility of the three hydrogels are systematically investigated. The APP/QCS hydrogels presented the best compressive and stretch properties among the three hydrogels. The mechanical property and antibacterial activity of APP/QCS hydrogels can be further modulated using varied QCS amounts, where more QCS contributed higher stiffness and stretchability as well as better bacterial inhibition to the APP/QCS hydrogels. Taken together, it is demonstrated that the inherent elastomeric characteristic of APP crosslinker provides the desirable elasticity and stretchability to QCS hydrogels compared to the other aldehyde-functionalized crosslinkers of GA and PDA. This strategy of using multivalent elastomeric crosslinkers to fabricate deformable chitosan hydrogels can expand the use of chitosan hydrogels in tissue engineering applications.

In recent years, 3DCG-related industries have grown rapidly and the demand for 3DCG content has increased. However, 3DCG production requires special skills and a lot of time. In particular, the creation of background data requires a lot of human resources at the production site because the data is huge and complex. Therefore, we propose an automatic creation system that generates 3D background data for 3DCG production. The proposed system consists of three functions: 3D model generation, generation parameter optimization, and fitness evaluation. The user inputs a landscape photograph as idea information into the system, and the system optimizes the generation parameters so that the 3D object shape approximates the input image. To evaluate the accuracy of the system's performance, we observe the optimization process and the 3D object output when a previously generated fractal image or landscape photos are input. Experimental results show that the system accurately optimizes the generation parameters and generates 3D objects that are almost identical to the shape of the fractal image. In addition, the parameters were also optimized with a certain degree of accuracy for landscape photographs for which no specific solution had been determined.

Studies on three-dimensional structured carbon templates have focused on how to guide homogeneous lithium metal nucleation and growth for lithium metal anodes(LMAs).However,there is still insufficient evidence for a key factor to achieve their high electrochemical ***,the effects of nanopores and sulfur doping on carbon-based nanoporous host(CNH)electrode materials for LMAs were investigated using natural polymer-derived *** pore-filling behaviors of lithium metal in the nanopores of the CNH electrode materials were first observed by ex situ scanning electron microscopy analysis,where the protective lithium metal nucleation and growth process led to significantly high Coulombic efficiency(CE)of~99.4%and stable 600 *** addition,a comparison study of CNH and sulfurdoped CNH(S-CNH)electrodes,which differ only in the presence or absence of sulfur,revealed that sulfur doping can cause lower electrochemical series resistance,higher CE value,and better cycling stability in a wide range of current densities and number of ***,S-CNH-based LMAs showed high electrochemical performance in full-cell Li-S battery tests using a sulfur copolymer cathode,where a high energy density of 1370Wh kgelectrode−1 and an excellent power density of 4120Wkgelectrode−1 were obtained.

Flow patterns are found in many processes involving multiphase flows in the industry. This experimental investigation focuses on the behavior of the vorticity fields found in the liquid-vapor interface during flow boiling of R-600a with heat flux varying from 5 to 20 kW/m 2 and fixed mass flux of 890 kg/(m 2 s) at a saturation temperature of 17 ∘ C. Tests were performed in a horizontal tube with 1.0 mm ID. Four different flow patterns were identified based on images, and the vorticity fields were investigated using an optical flow method. © 2022, The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Switzerland AG.

Purpose This paper aims to provide a comprehensive literature review on the practices and challenges in managing waste electrical and electronic equipment (WEEE) in smart cities. Design/methodology/approach A systematic literature review was conducted using the Methodi Ordinatio. Articles published between 2012 and 2022 were analyzed, totaling 149 references, of which 30 were included in the final review. Findings Emerging technologies such as the Internet of Things (IoT), big data and artificial intelligence (AI) are frequently highlighted as promising solutions for efficient e-waste management. Governance models and public policies are widely recognized as crucial for the successful implementation of WEEE management practices in smart cities. Originality/value This study underscores the role of advanced technologies, such as IoT and AI, in enhancing urban mobility and WEEE management. Key challenges include information security, privacy, interoperability, costs and sustainability. The findings reveal a convergence between smart cities and WEEE management, fostering the circular economy and the recovery of valuable materials.

Leukemia is a kind of cancer that is brought on by abnormalities in the body's white blood cells. An inspection of a blood smear that has been collected from the peripheral blood and then seen under a microscope is the method that is considered to be the gold standard for diagnosing leukemia. Techniques such as counting the cells in the blood and doing morphological analysis are two examples of methods that may be used to identify and diagnose leukemia. It is necessary to carefully examine a stained blood smear or an aspiration of bone marrow in order to correctly detect and diagnose leukemia. Both of these procedures involve the removal of bone marrow. This requires prior training and specialized expertise on the subject matter. A tedious and time-consuming operation, the manual evaluation of microscopic pictures of blood samples is one of the steps in the diagnostic procedure. The results are highly dependent on the degree of knowledge and experience that the laboratory worker has. Pathologists are often burdened with an excessive quantity of such data that has to be properly evaluated in order to arrive at a decision. This may be a time-consuming and difficult process. Red blood cells, white blood cells, and blood platelets are the three primary cell types that make up human blood. Platelets are also present in blood. Erythrocyte disease might refer to a collection of diseases that have an effect on hemoglobin. Hemoglobin is a protein found in red blood cells that is responsible for transporting oxygen to cells located throughout the body. This condition is referred to as sickle cell anemia. In sickle cell anemia, the blood contains abnormal hemoglobin molecules known as hemoglobin S. These molecules distort the structure of red blood cells, causing them to take on the form of a crescent or a reaping hook. There is a genetic form of anemia known as sickle cell anemia. The aim of this paper is to compare the ability of two numerical models to simulate two-dimensional dam-break flows. Dam-break modelling is important in reducing the high-risk of dam failure by determining the water flow movement and its effect on buildings downstream. In this study, the Taylor Galerkin and Forward Time Central Space method is presented to simulate 2-D dam-break flow. The Hansen filter is applied to both methods to reduce numerical instability oscillations in the model. The filters were used for each time step at each computing point. The model is verified by comparing the result simulation with numerical results from previous studies. The result show that Taylor Galerkin numerical scheme with Hansen filter is successful to simulate the problem of 2-D dam-break. Also, the Taylor Galerkin model has better results than the FTCS model. Studies like this are needed for mitigation efforts in the event of dam failure. © Published under licence by IOP Publishing Ltd.

Objective: Magnetic fields switching at kilohertz frequencies induce electric fields in the body, which can cause peripheral nerve stimulation (PNS). Although magnetostimulation has been extensively studied below 10 kHz, the behavior of PNS at higher frequencies remains poorly understood. This study aims to investigate PNS thresholds at frequencies up to 88.1 kHz and to explore deviations from the widely accepted hyperbolic strength-duration curve (SDC). Methods and procedures: PNS thresholds were measured in the head of 8 human volunteers using a solenoidal coil at 16 distinct frequencies, ranging from 200 Hz to 88.1 kHz. A hyperbolic SDC was used as a reference to compare the frequency-dependent behavior of PNS thresholds. Results: Contrary to the predictions of the hyperbolic SDC, PNS thresholds did not decrease monotonically with frequency. Instead, thresholds reached a minimum near 25 kHz, after which they increased by an average of 39% from 25 kHz to 88.1 kHz across subjects. This pattern indicates a significant deviation from previously observed behavior at lower frequencies. Conclusion: Our results suggest that PNS thresholds exhibit a non-monotonic frequency dependence at higher frequencies, diverging from the traditional hyperbolic SDC. These findings offer critical data for refining neurodynamic models and provide insights for setting PNS safety limits in applications like MRI gradient coils and magnetic particle imaging (MPI). Further investigation is needed to understand the biological mechanisms driving these deviations beyond 25 kHz. Clinical impact: These findings call for further basic research into biological mechanisms underlying high frequency PNS threshold trends, and supports refinement of safety guidelines for MRI and MPI systems for clinical implementation. © 2013 IEEE.
