Characteristics of palm oil-based oleogel and its potency as a shortening replacer

This investigation aimed to determine the effect of beeswax (BW) and palm oil concentrations on the characteristics of oleogels which were then compared with a commercial shortening to evaluate their potential to be used as a shortening replacer. The characteristics of palm oil-based oleogel were investigated. Crude palm oil (CPO) and palm oil-based cooking oil (CO) are both rich in palmitic acid (C16:0), oleic acid (C18:1), and linoleic acid (C18:2), but the amount of total saturated fatty acids in CPO is higher than in commercial CO. The binary blends of palm oil (CPO and CO) and beeswax (BW) were used in various concentrations to prepare palm oil-based oleogel. Oleogels containing higher concentrations of BW had a greater oil binding capacity. The addition of BW produced needle-like and spherical crystals. X-ray diffraction analysis revealed a broad peak between 5.6° 2θ and 21.2° 2θ, (4.6 Å), resembling β polymorphism produced by monoacylglycerol aliphatic chains. The solid fat content of the CPO-based oleogel indicated that the product was more heat-resistant and had a profile more similar to shortening than the CO-based oil. As the BW concentration increased, the peak temperature of the sample also increased according to the differential scanning calorimetry analysis. The characteristics of palm oil-based oleogel products were comparable to that of commercial shortening;thus, they can be used as shortening replacers. © 2022 The Author(s)

Objective: Magnetic fields switching at kilohertz frequencies induce electric fields in the body, which can cause peripheral nerve stimulation (PNS). Although magnetostimulation has been extensively studied below 10 kHz, the behavior of PNS at higher frequencies remains poorly understood. This study aims to investigate PNS thresholds at frequencies up to 88.1 kHz and to explore deviations from the widely accepted hyperbolic strength-duration curve (SDC). Methods and procedures: PNS thresholds were measured in the head of 8 human volunteers using a solenoidal coil at 16 distinct frequencies, ranging from 200 Hz to 88.1 kHz. A hyperbolic SDC was used as a reference to compare the frequency-dependent behavior of PNS thresholds. Results: Contrary to the predictions of the hyperbolic SDC, PNS thresholds did not decrease monotonically with frequency. Instead, thresholds reached a minimum near 25 kHz, after which they increased by an average of 39% from 25 kHz to 88.1 kHz across subjects. This pattern indicates a significant deviation from previously observed behavior at lower frequencies. Conclusion: Our results suggest that PNS thresholds exhibit a non-monotonic frequency dependence at higher frequencies, diverging from the traditional hyperbolic SDC. These findings offer critical data for refining neurodynamic models and provide insights for setting PNS safety limits in applications like MRI gradient coils and magnetic particle imaging (MPI). Further investigation is needed to understand the biological mechanisms driving these deviations beyond 25 kHz. Clinical impact: These findings call for further basic research into biological mechanisms underlying high frequency PNS threshold trends, and supports refinement of safety guidelines for MRI and MPI systems for clinical implementation. © 2013 IEEE.

This study proposes a direct teaching method for the task of pressing an end effector attached to a robot manipulator against a workpiece with a constant force. When performing contact tasks, such as deburring or polishing using a manipulator, a passive compliance is required for the end effector to suppress excessive contact force and impact. Therefore, we developed an end effector that combines a 'parallel wire-type teaching device,' which enables direct teaching, and a compliance device. In the case of pressing a workpiece with a constant force, after teaching the robot's trajectory to trace the edge of the workpiece, the amount of pressing can be calculated from the stiffness of the end effector and the desired pressing force;the robot's trajectory can be edited to teach contact tasks. An experiment was conducted to press a straight trajectory with a constant force as the target value and evaluate the accuracy of force teaching. © 2023 ICROS.

Leukemia is a kind of cancer that is brought on by abnormalities in the body's white blood cells. An inspection of a blood smear that has been collected from the peripheral blood and then seen under a microscope is the method that is considered to be the gold standard for diagnosing leukemia. Techniques such as counting the cells in the blood and doing morphological analysis are two examples of methods that may be used to identify and diagnose leukemia. It is necessary to carefully examine a stained blood smear or an aspiration of bone marrow in order to correctly detect and diagnose leukemia. Both of these procedures involve the removal of bone marrow. This requires prior training and specialized expertise on the subject matter. A tedious and time-consuming operation, the manual evaluation of microscopic pictures of blood samples is one of the steps in the diagnostic procedure. The results are highly dependent on the degree of knowledge and experience that the laboratory worker has. Pathologists are often burdened with an excessive quantity of such data that has to be properly evaluated in order to arrive at a decision. This may be a time-consuming and difficult process. Red blood cells, white blood cells, and blood platelets are the three primary cell types that make up human blood. Platelets are also present in blood. Erythrocyte disease might refer to a collection of diseases that have an effect on hemoglobin. Hemoglobin is a protein found in red blood cells that is responsible for transporting oxygen to cells located throughout the body. This condition is referred to as sickle cell anemia. In sickle cell anemia, the blood contains abnormal hemoglobin molecules known as hemoglobin S. These molecules distort the structure of red blood cells, causing them to take on the form of a crescent or a reaping hook. There is a genetic form of anemia known as sickle cell anemia. In recent years, the increasing demand for electric vehicles, digital devices such as PCs and smartphones, and renewable energy storage systems has created a need for higher-performance batteries. Accordingly, the thermal conductivity of the case that houses the battery is becoming increasingly important. In this study, compositions with high thermal conductivity and good castability were investigated, focusing on Mg-Al-Ca alloys, and the relationship between the two was examined through thermal conductivity measurements and microstructural observations. As a result, the Mg-6%Al-4%Ca alloy was optimal in terms of castability and thermal conductivity. It was confirmed that a lower Al solid solution capacity and a higher purity of the matrix phase are important to improve the thermal conductivity. It is also suggested that the second phase, platelet Al2Ca, is likely to be recognized and enriched in the matrix, contributing to the improvement of thermal conductivity. The amount of Ca solid solution in the matrix was suggested to be reduced by the enrichment of Al in the matrix. The Ca solid solution in the matrix was found to be less effective in reducing thermal conductivity than the Al solid solution. © 2024 The Japan Institute of Light Metals.

This study investigated the action of proteolytic enzymes in the production of goat viscera hydrolysates,and their flavoring *** study focus the production of flavor precursor molecules and the formation of volatile compounds resulting from four hydrolysis treatments:HA-Alcalase®,HF-Flavourzyme®,HN-Neutrase®,and HFN-Flavourzyme® and Neutrase®.The highest degree of hydrolysis (26.74%),number (23 volatiles) and concentration of volatile compounds (274.0 μg/L) were obtained with the action of *** main classes of volatile compounds identified in hydrolysates included acids,aldehydes,pyrazines,terpenes and Streacker *** acids,sugars and fatty acids were identified with higher concentrations in HF and HFN hydrolysates due to the low participation of these precursors in the formation of volatile ***,the use of Alcalase in the proteolysis of goat viscera stood out compared to other enzymes,providing impacting aroma compounds,such as pyrazines,for meat flavor.

Image segmentation is an essential component in many different types of computer vision systems. Image segmentation is used in order to identify objects and boundaries within pictures. It is important to note that the success of recognition algorithms is heavily dependent on the quality of the picture segmentation, and there is yet no technique that can universally segment images. Boundary detection has a long history of being recognised as one of the most difficult challenges in the fields of image processing and pattern analysis, in particular, when it comes to applications in medical imaging. The clarity of the picture is being muddled by more information, which is the source of the problem's complexity. The creation of segmentation algorithms for medical pictures is an active field of study, and segmentation algorithms are meant to account for a variety of factors, including noise, intensity inhomogeneity, poor contrast between the lesion and the surrounding skin, and so on. There is currently no active contour model that combines the locally statistical property of being more noise-resistant, in which the intensities in the transformed domain have less overlapping in the statistics, and the locally image fitting property of extracting the local image information in order to be able to segment images with intensity inhomogeneity. This is because there is no such model. So the proposed work includes Ant colony optimization based double threshold segmentation in medical images. Performance of the proposed algorithm is more efficient, reliable and accurate than the existing algorithm. Performance parameters such as segmentation accuracy, error rate, and Dice co-efficient are used in order to conduct the evaluation of the proposed work. © 2022 IEEE.

Defects in gastric progenitor cell differentiation are associated with various gastric disorders, including atrophic gastritis, intestinal metaplasia, and gastric cancer. However, the mechanisms underlying the multilineage differentiation of gastric progenitor cells during healthy homeostasis remain poorly understood. Here, using a single-cell RNA sequencing method, Quartz-Seq2, we analyzed the gene expression dynamics of progenitor cell differentiation toward pit cell, neck cell, and parietal cell lineages in healthy adult mouse corpus tissues. Enrichment analysis of pseudotime-dependent genes and a gastric organoid assay revealed that EGFR-ERK signaling promotes pit cell differentiation, whereas NF-κB signaling maintains gastric progenitor cells in an undifferentiated state. In addition, pharmacological inhibition of EGFR in vivo resulted in a decreased number of pit cells. Although activation of EGFR signaling in gastric progenitor cells has been suggested as one of the major inducers of gastric cancers, our findings unexpectedly identified that EGFR signaling exerts a differentiation-promoting function, not a mitogenic function, in normal gastric homeostasis.
