Background: The sustainable development goals (SDGs) aim to end HIV/AIDS as a public health threat by 2030. Understanding the current state of the HIV epidemic and its change over time is essential to this effort. This study assesses the current sex-specific HIV burden in 204 countries and territories and measures progress in the control of the epidemic. Methods: To estimate age-specific and sex-specific trends in 48 of 204 countries, we extended the Estimation and Projection Package Age-Sex Model to also implement the spectrum paediatric model. We used this model in cases where age and sex specific HIV-seroprevalence surveys and antenatal care-clinic sentinel surveillance data were available. For the remaining 156 of 204 locations, we developed a cohort-incidence bias adjustment to derive incidence as a function of cause-of-death data from vital registration systems. The incidence was input to a custom Spectrum model. To assess progress, we measured the percentage change in incident cases and deaths between 2010 and 2019 (threshold >75% decline), the ratio of incident cases to number of people living with HIV (incidence-to-prevalence ratio threshold <0·03), and the ratio of incident cases to deaths (incidence-to-mortality ratio threshold <1·0). Findings: In 2019, there were 36·8 million (95% uncertainty interval [UI] 35·1–38·9) people living with HIV worldwide. There were 0·84 males (95% UI 0·78–0·91) per female living with HIV in 2019, 0·99 male infections (0·91–1·10) for every female infection, and 1·02 male deaths (0·95–1·10) per female death. Global progress in incident cases and deaths between 2010 and 2019 was driven by sub-Saharan Africa (with a 28·52% decrease in incident cases, 95% UI 19·58–35·43, and a 39·66% decrease in deaths, 36·49–42·36). Elsewhere, the incidence remained stable or increased, whereas deaths generally decreased. The Cluster HEritage project with XMM-Newton - Mass Assembly and Thermodynamics at the Endpoint of structure formation (CHEX-MATE) is a three-mega-second Multi-Year Heritage programme to obtain X-ray observations of a minimally-biased, signal-to-noise-limited sample of 118 galaxy clusters detected by Planck through the Sunyaev-Zeldovich effect. The programme, described in detail in this paper, aims to study the ultimate products of structure formation in time and mass. It is composed of a census of the most recent objects to have formed (Tier-1: 0.05 14 M 500 14 M), together with a sample of the highest mass objects in the Universe (Tier-2: z 500 > 7.25 × 1014 M). The programme will yield an accurate vision of the statistical properties of the underlying population, measure how the gas properties are shaped by collapse into the dark matter halo, uncover the provenance of non-gravitational heating, and resolve the major uncertainties in mass determination that limit the use of clusters for cosmological parameter estimation. We will acquire X-ray exposures of uniform depth, designed to obtain individual mass measurements accurate to 15 − 20% under the hydrostatic assumption. We present the project motivations, describe the programme definition, and detail the ongoing multi-wavelength observational (lensing, SZ, radio) and theoretical effort that is being deployed in support of the project. Atmospheric Pressure Plasma Jet Treatment of Human Hair Fibers

Human hair fibers in virgin and dyed forms were treated with atmospheric pressure helium, helium/oxygen, argon, and argon/oxygen plasma jets at 20 W of power. The effects of 10-min plasma treatment on surface morphology and chemistry were studied by scanning electron microscopy and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy, respectively. The plasma treatment was quite effective for removing the organic residues from the surface and creating oxidized functional groups. Helium plasma had a mild cleaning effect on the surfaces while argon/oxygen plasma had the strongest corrosive effect. Mild hydrogen peroxide treatment for the same duration had neither the cleaning nor the oxidizing power of the plasma jets. These types of plasma jets have the potential to replace peroxide treatment. The corrosive jets can be used to restore dyed hair fibers. In addition, the jets can be used to clean the surfaces of hair fibers to prepare samples for analytical investigations where the organic residues may induce problems. © 2015, Springer International Publishing AG.

Banda Aceh is a low-lying city located at the northern tip of Sumatra Island and situated at the conjuncture of Malacca Strait and the Andaman Sea. A Sea Level Rise (SLR) rate at 7 mm/year has been observed around this region. In the next 50 years, this city will face a serious challenge to encounter impacts of the sea level rise, such as frequent coastal floodings. This study is aimed at estimating impacts of the sea level rise induced coastal floodings on several types of coastal structures and city drainage system. Numerical simulations of Delft3D were applied to investigate the influence of the gradual sea level rise in 50 years. The hydrodynamic process of coastal flooding and sediment transport were simulated by Delft3D-Flow. Topography and bathymetry data were collected from GEBCO and updated with the available nautical chart (DISHIDROS, JICA, and field measurements). Hydrodynamic process gains the flow process revealing the level of the sea water intrusion also observed in the model. Main rivers (Krueng Aceh, Krueng Neng, and Alue Naga Flood Canal) and the drainage system were observed to see the tides effects on coastal structures and drainage system. The impact on coastal community focusing on affected area, shoreline retreat, the rate of sea intrusion was analyzed with spatial tools. New coastal line, coastal flooding vulnerable area, and the community susceptibility properties map influenced by 50 years sea level rise is produced. This research found that the city needs to address strategies to anticipate the exacerbating impacts of the sea level rise by managing its coastal spatial planning and modify its drainage system, especially at the drainage outlets.

In this paper, we seek the optimal combination of dedicated radix-2~m multiplication blocks, and adder trees schemes for the realization of optimized radix-2~m array multipliers. The operands of the multipliers are generated by 2's complement radix-4, radix-16, radix-256, and radix-65536 dedicated multiplication blocks. The operands are added using different adder trees schemes such as Wallace, RBA, and compressors. The number of operands defines the amount of adders blocks used in the addition tree of the array multiplier. The logic synthesis was realized using Cadence Encounter RTL Compiler tool with Nangate 45nm Open Cell library. Area, delay and power consumption results are presented for the synthesized proposed multipliers. As will be presented, the combination of radix-4 or radix-16 dedicated multiplication block and multi-operand adder tree schemes yields the best power - performance results in the radix-2~m array multipliers.

Dear Editor： Gao et al. published data in Nature Biotechnology （Nat Biotechnol. 2016 May 2） showing that DNA-guided genome editing using the Natronobacterium gregoryi Argonaute （NgAgo） protein targeted 47 mammalian genomic loci with a 100% success rate and an efficiency of 21.3%-41.3% at various targets. This report led us to test NgAgo＇s utility in various cells and organisms such as mouse and zebrafish for gene editing.
