Relating university students’ online self-regulated English learning to motivational beliefs: a structural equation modelling analysis

This study investigated university students’ online self-regulated English learning (OSEL) and related it to their motivational beliefs in order to probe important psychological factors that may predict how students use self-regulated strategies to facilitate their online English learning. The data was gathered from 337 Thai university nursing students. The instruments used in this study were validated to measure motivational beliefs and OSEL in the context of Thai university students. All motivational belief factors were significantly associated with OSEL. The results of confirmatory factor analysis (CFA) indicated that the construct validity of the questionnaire items was acceptable. Furthermore, the structural modelling analysis (SEM) showed that intrinsic value and cost were significant predictors of all OSEL strategies, namely, behavioural strategies, goal setting, and environment structuring. Meanwhile, academic self-efficacy and attainment value were positively related to certain OSEL factors. Implications for enhancing students’ motivation and self-regulation in online language learning as well as directions for further investigations are discussed. © 2022 Informa UK Limited, trading as Taylor & Francis Group.

Machine Learning (ML) is a branch of artificial intelligent field, which has great capability to achieve improvements in real industries. On the other side, water leakage is a major problem for water utilities;it can waste water and damage infrastructure, during long repair times. There is no previous research using ML algorithms to forecast the repair time of water pipe leakage. This paper investigates seven ML algorithms for repair time forecasting in water pipe leakage. The paper uses data from a water utility in Alexandria, Egypt. Results exposed that all seven models were able to forecast the time of repair;in particular, AdaBoost, is the best, has an RMSE of 0.057. This study highlights the ML approaches for predicting the time needed to repair a water pipe leakage and the need for further research to improve the comprehension of the relation between repair time and pipe features. © 2023 IEEE.

Indonesia has the largest number of people that are active in social media and Indonesia is a country with the most social media users in the world. Social media in general is used to socialize (relate, both, personally, in groups and so on) between users. The users of social media in Indonesia already has reached 160 million in January 2020. and this number of social media users in Indonesia increased up to 12 million (8.1%) from April 2019 to January 2020. Firstly, social media was used by users to connect with each other through community. However, now social media is not only used as a means of virtual community for interaction but is also used as a channel for doing business. There are still many people who do not realize that social media has the advantage of being a very efficient and effective business, and many company that still confused about to choose which social media platform that suitable with their business promotion. Therefore, we want to show and tell them one of the advantages of social media in the field of promotion. Based on the surveys, there are four most popular social media in Indonesia such as YouTube, WhatsApp, Facebook, and Instagram. However, there still very few studies can be found to understand that social media is effective or not for business promotion. For this reason, this article will examine the advantages that social media have that can support business promotion. This article will utilize the questioners method to assess the important factors of social media users such as user satisfaction factors in using social media and what social media are often used by user to promote their business. Students 'attendance in class is one important success parameter in face-to-face learning processes. Conventional attendance systems, such as paper-based attendance sheets or identity card systems, require a long time in the manual recapitulation process. Without additional verifications, even computer vision-based methods are prone to fraudulent practices by the students instead of gaining their excitement and attention in a class. To stimulate students' attention in a class, this work designs an intelligent class attendance system, in which facial pattern and smile recognition are implemented by using the latter as an additional task-based verification to reduce the risks of fake attendance. For the face recognition module, this pilot study used FaceNet as a feature extractor combined with SVM for classification, whereas the Haar cascade algorithm is used for recognizing smiles. This face recognition pipeline was implemented as a service installed on minicomputers or Internet of Things (IoT) devices in each classroom and connected to an IP camera. Every recorded attendance will be sent as a notification to a mobile application for students that requires their active participation to confirm it with a smiling self-photo. The proposed pipeline obtained 92.86% accuracy on the test data, and 66.67% accuracy when evaluated in a real-life simulation setting through the implemented system. The lower accuracy in the simulation indicated that further improvements are indispensable, especially since the model obtained 28.57% False Negative Rate. Future studies will need to acquire more data and experiment with more efficient methods of attendance verification. © 2023 IEEE.

The background of this research is the condition of the covid-19 pandemic which has an impact on online ticket sales. Meanwhile, when future of covid-19 pandemic is starting to become clearer, we are going to have a lot more infections but hopefully a lot fewer hospitalizations, people began to travel long distances that had been delayed by implementing health protocols. Airfare competition can influence the decision to buy airline tickets. Various things have been done to attract the attention of buyers. This research is a non-experimental quantitative research. Population in this research was people who have purchased plane tickets online during the covid-19 pandemic, and the sample were 113 respondents age between 15 and 64. Sampling technique used was simple random sampling. Analysis of the data used in this study using multicollinearity, heteroscedasticity, multiple linear, T-test, F-test, and coefficient of determination test. It was concluded that price, promotion, and lifestyle variables can influence online purchasing decisions. © 2023 IEEE.

High-fidelity(HiFi)sequencing has facilitated the assembly and analysis of the most repetitive region of the genome,the ***,our current understanding of human centromeres is based on a relatively small number of telomere-to-telomere assemblies,which have not yet captured its full *** this study,we investigated the genomic diversity of human centromere higher order repeats(HORs)via both HiFi reads and haplotype-resolved assemblies from hundreds of samples drawn from ongoing pangenome-sequencing projects and reprocessed them via a novel HOR annotation pipeline,*** used this wealth of data to provide a global survey of the centromeric HOR landscape;in particular,we found that 23 HORs presented significant copy number variability between *** detected three centromere genotypes with unbalanced population frequencies on chromosomes 5,8,and *** inter-assembly comparison of HOR loci further revealed that while HOR array structures are diverse,they nevertheless tend to form a number of specific landscapes,each exhibiting different levels of HOR subunit expansion and possibly reflecting a cyclical evolutionary transition from homogeneous to nested structures and back.

Adaptive predictive analysis model utilizing Spiking Neural Networks (SNNs) to enhance quality assurance processes in Smart Campus environments. Traditional predictive models often struggle with the dynamic and complex nature of educational data, leading to inaccurate predictions and inefficient decision-making. SNNs, inspired by biological neurons, are particularly suited for processing temporal data and adapting to evolving patterns. The proposed model integrates spike-timing-dependent plasticity (STDP) and dynamic weight adjustment to continuously learn and refine predictions in response to real-time data, ensuring improved accuracy and robustness. The study uses historical data from the Internal Quality Assurance System (SPMI) over a three-year period, focusing on key performance indicators such as student enrollment trends, faculty productivity, and resource utilization. Experimental results demonstrate that the SNN-based model outperforms traditional neural networks, achieving a 20% reduction in Mean Squared Error (MSE) and a higher R-squared value. These findings indicate that the model not only enhances predictive accuracy but also offers significant improvements in operational efficiency and resource management. By providing timely and precise insights, this model supports proactive decision-making in educational institutions, enabling administrators to optimize resource allocation, monitor academic quality, and anticipate future challenges. This research contributes to the growing field of artificial intelligence in education, offering a scalable, adaptive approach to managing complex data and improving institutional performance in real-time.
