Federated learning is an effective method to train a machine learning model without requiring to aggregate the potentially sensitive data of agents in a central server. However, the limited communication bandwidth, the hardware of the agents and a potential application-specific latency requirement impact how many and which agents can participate in the learning process at each communication round. In this paper, we propose a selection metric characterizing each agent's importance with respect to both the learning process and the resource efficiency of its wireless communication channel. Leveraging this importance metric, we formulate a general agent selection optimization problem, which can be adapted to different environments with latency or resource-oriented constraints. Considering an example wireless environment with latency constraints, the agent selection problem reduces to the 0/1 Knapsack problem, which we solve with a fully polynomial approximation. We then evaluate the agent selection policy in different scenarios, using extensive simulations for an example task of object classification of European traffic signs. The results indicate that agent selection policies which consider both learning and channel aspects provide benefits in terms of the attainable global model accuracy and/or the time needed to achieve a targeted accuracy level. However, in scenarios where agents have a limited number of data samples or where the latency requirement is very stringent, a pure learning-based agent selection policy is shown to be more beneficial during the early or late stages of the learning process. © 2023 CCBY.

Comparative Analysis of SAAS Model and NPC Integration for Enhancing VR Shopping Experiences

This article examines the incorporation of the Shopping Assistance Automatic Suggestion (SAAS) model into Virtual Reality (VR) environments in order to improve the online shopping experience. The SAAS model employs sophisticated deep learning methods to offer customized product recommendations, which are conveyed by non-player characters (NPCs) via voice-based interactions. Our goal is to develop an interactive shopping experience that replicates real-life interactions by integrating AI-powered recommendations with immersive VR technology. We gather and standardize data from several open commerce databases, such as Amazon Product and Customer Reviews. The SAAS model, in conjunction with GPT-3, BERT, and T5, undergoes training and testing to evaluate its effectiveness across multiple criteria. The results demonstrate that the SAAS model surpasses other models in delivering contextually aware and pertinent recommendations. The integration process outlines the specific steps involved in capturing, processing, and transforming user interactions in virtual reality (VR) into vocal suggestions provided by non-player characters (NPCs). This strategy improves customization and utilizes the immersive features of virtual reality to effectively engage people. The results of our research establish a higher standard for e-commerce, with the goal of enhancing the user experience of online purchasing by making it more instinctive, engaging, and pleasurable. © 2024 by the authors.

This study investigates the variables affecting travelers' decision to visit heritage destinations. Heritage tourism can draw visitors because of its historical, cultural, and aesthetic significance. More studies are still required to further understand the elements influencing travelers' decisions to engage in historical tourism. The object of this research is tourists who intend to visit heritage tourism in Indonesia. This study used a quantitative approach by distributing questionnaires online to 100 respondents consisting of domestic and foreign tourists. They were then processed using SmartPLS. The study results show that five variables affect tourists' intentions to visit heritage tourism: Heritage Value (HV), Travel Intention (TI), Visitor Engagement (VE), Quality of Experience (QE), and Social Media Preference (SMP). All these variables positively influence tourist intentions to visit cultural heritage sites. This study concludes that the government and related parties significantly promote heritage sites by prioritizing historical, cultural, and aesthetic values. In addition, associated parties must also pay attention to other factors, such as service quality and travel costs which can affect tourists' intentions to visit heritage sites. In this case, social media can also be an effective means of promoting heritage sites to tourists.

IoT edge platform has become popular in various distributed environments. The edge devices need to communicate BigData among them or with the cloud servers by collaborating with AI technologies for finding events from the applications. Those devices exchange data streams from such as distributed sensors and remote image/video devices. We focus on an acceleration technique for the communication performance using a stream-based lossless data compression technology. This paper proposes a parallelization technique for the compression process in a software environment running on a multicore processor. The technique invokes concurrent compression processes assigned to multiple threads with splitting a data stream to chunks. The paper exposes three scheduling methods for assigning the chunks to the threads: in-order, hybrid and out-of-order. As an original data order of chunks must be obtained in decompression side, the proposed technique introduces packeting mechanisms in each chunk by adding headers to support the scheduling methods. Through experimental performance evaluations, we discuss the packeting overhead focusing on compression ratio and speedup by the parallelization with three scheduling methods. © 2023 IEEE.

The temperature of the hot-spots on windings is a crucial factor that can limit the overload capacity of the transformer. Few studies consider the impact of the load on the hot-spot when studying the hot-spot temperature and its location. In this paper, a thermal circuit model based on the thermoelectric analogy method is built to simulate the transformer winding and transformer oil temperature distribution. The hot-spot temperature and its location under different loads are qualitatively analyzed, and the hot-spot location is analyzed and compared to the experimental results. The results show that the hot-spot position on the winding under the rated power appears at 85.88% of the winding height, and the hot-spot position of the winding moves down by 5% in turn at 1.3, 1.48, and 1.73 times the rated power respectively. © 2021 River Publishers

This paper focuses on a performance enhancement of communication performance by compressing data stream. ASE coding is an effective lossless data compression method for data stream. The software implementation of the coding/decoding method inevitably meets a performance mismatch in memory and storage devices. In the compressor side, it is predictable to decide the size of an original data block and is available to process a flexible buffer memory. However, the decompressor is not able to predict the buffer size because the original data size is not obvious before the decompression. This causes a performance mismatch in the filesystem level. This paper proposes a novel method to address the performance mismatch by applying a notification mechanism of compression size from the compressor. This paper describes the mechanism focusing on the system call usage. Through experimental evaluations, we show the performance improvement of the decompression performance for handling data stream. © 2023 IEEE.

In the world of education, learning management systems are currently widely used. The massively open online courses are accessible either via the web or mobile. The Learning Management System (LMS) is one of the learning media that is widely used today in online learning. An LMS with the use of a personalized recommendation system can provide items tailored to the interests and behavior of its users. Items in the recommendation system can be in the form of recommendations for learning models, ways of learning, learning patterns, or learning stages according to the characteristics and profile of the user. The purpose of this study is to identify opportunities for better online learning by utilizing a customized recommendation system based on the history of user interaction with the system, using several factors as determinants or variables. The method used is a review conducted from several stages. The result of this is knowing the factors that influence the user, and the opportunities that exist in the system recommendations on personalized development. © 2023 IEEE.

The need to ensure the longevity of Wireless Sensor Networks (WSNs) and secure their communication has spurred various researchers to come up with various WSN models. Prime among the methods for extending the life span of WSNs is the clustering of Wireless Sensors (WS), which reduces the workload of WS and thereby reduces its power consumption. However, a drastic reduction in the power consumption of the sensors when multicore sensors are used in combination with sensors clustering has not been well explored. Therefore, this work proposes a WSN model that employs clustering of multicore WS. The existing Elliptic Curve Cryptographic (ECC) algorithm is optimized for parallel execution of the encryption/decryption processes and security against primitive attacks. The Elliptic Curve Diffie-Helman (ECDH) was used for the key exchange algorithm, and the Elliptic Curve Digital Signature Algorithm (ECDSA) was used to authenticate the communicating nodes. Security analysis of the model and comparative performance analysis with the existing ones were demonstrated. The security analysis results reveal that the proposed model meets the security requirements and resists various security attacks. Additionally, the projected model is scalable, energy-conservative, and supports data freshness. The results of comparative performance analysis show that the proposed WSN model can efficiently leverage multiprocessors and/or many cores for quicker execution and conserves power usage. © 2013 IEEE.
