Automated language translation involving low-resource language has gained wide interest from many research communities in the past decade. One lesson learned from the past COVID-19 pandemic, particularly in Indonesia, is that many local Governments have to release regular public announcements to keep people following health protocol especially when they are in public areas. Many studies showed some evidence that rural people in Indonesia which covers a large proportion of Indonesia's population, feel more convenience receiving official announcements in their local language. However, translating official announcement from the national language to many local languages in Indonesia require many experienced bilingual translators and time. This paper presents exploration results in developing an automated language translator model to translate texts in Bahasa Indonesia to the Sundanese language. In particular, this study aims to explore the effect of ReLU, Sigmoid, and Tanh activation functions of the Vanilla Transformer Model on its translation performance. The experiment results showed that the activation function under study gives similar training accuracy (0.98). However, ReLU achieves better performance than Tanh in terms of validation accuracy, training loss, and validation loss. © 2023 IEEE.

MOOCs are one of the developments or impacts of e-learning or online learning. Massive Open Online Course (MOOC) is one of the choices for students to increase their knowledge through non-formal channels. Our research aims to determine the level of readiness of students regarding MOOC learning and opportunities for utilizing recommendation systems in students' decision-making regarding selecting MOOCs that suit their interests and needs. We conducted a survey regarding the constraints and needs of learner readiness through 5 aspects, namely 1) technical aspect, (2) social aspect, (3) communication aspect, (4) lecture readiness aspect, and (5) online discussion. The results of this research show that the main challenges that MOOC participants may face in a MOOC environment are Technical Aspects (28.25%), Social Aspects (21.47%), and Communication Aspects (18.93%). Meanwhile, the greatest strength of online learning in the MOOC environment is the social aspect (21%), the most influential and continued with technical and other aspects. Meanwhile, the lecture readiness aspect is quite good, and the online discussion aspect is the biggest aspect that influences the success of MOOC learning. Other results of this research indicate the importance of a recommendation system for MOOC students to make it easier for students to choose the right MOOC according to their interests and needs. © 2023 IEEE.

TEXCEL: text encryption with elliptic curve cryptography for enhanced security

Elliptic curve cryptography has emerged as a potent tool for safeguarding data communications. This research paper addresses the problem of traditional text encryption methods relying on shared code tables between senders and receivers. This reliance not only adds complexity but also increases the risk of security breaches and requires significant communication overhead. In the present paper, we introduce TEXCEL, an innovative, efficient and authenticated text encryption scheme. TEXCEL begins with a pioneering method for crafting a customized permuted ASCII table elevating cryptographic security by leveraging elliptic curve coordinates as keys. These coordinates serve as seeds for a random number generator ensuring reproducibility. Here, the technique used to map the characters of the message to a point on elliptic curve eliminates the traditional approach of sharing a code table between sender and receiver, thus reducing communication overhead. TEXCEL undergoes a thorough security analysis, including NIST evaluation, key and plaintext sensitivity, and resilience against common attacks like known-ciphertext, known-plaintext, chosen-plaintext, and chosen-ciphertext. To test and validate the proposed methodology, experimental results present that TEXCEL demonstrates plaintext sensitivity exceeding 98%, high randomness, and a robust key space. Additionally, encryption and decryption of a 5000-character text takes only 0.027 s and 0.007 s respectively, with a cipher size of 9.8 KB, ensuring both security and efficiency. Furthermore, as compared with the existing schemes, TEXCEL shows enhanced resilience against modern cryptanalysis and outperforms existing schemes with a 53.50% improvement in encryption time, 94.86% in decryption time, 53.31% in cipher data size and better plaintext sensitivity. Smart Buildings are buildings that integrate and combine intelligence, management, control, materials, and construction as a single system to meet all the needs of the building, such as comfort, energy efficiency, and durability. In universities, laboratories are used less frequently than other facilities and classrooms. Courses and students may change in the same classroom, and the period of use of such classrooms is much more extended than in laboratories. However, classrooms may only be used for classes during long breaks or for short periods of non-use between exams. In addition, there is no provision for when the heating system will start to heat up before classes or when it will be turned off after classes. By planning heating and lightning, energy and costs will be saved. This paper presents data acquisition methods for preparing a dataset to create a machine learning (ML) model to save energy loss in university laboratories. The developed model will predict energy consumption in classrooms and laboratories based on weather conditions. The study is being conducted in two stages. The first stage describes how to collect data using electronic devices such as Internet of Things (IoT) controllers of Smart Building Management Systems. The second stage gave possibilities for data analysis and preparation using the phases of the Cross-Industry Standard Process for Data Mining (CRISP-DM). © 2024 IEEE.

We performed machine learning using spectrum analysis and power spectra of electroencephalograms (EEGs) of patients with mild cognitive impairment (MCI). Spectrum analysis was performed on the EEGs of MCI patients and healthy individuals, and the power spectrum values of the two groups were calculated and compared. Based on the power spectrum values of the theta and alpha bands, models for discriminating MCI patients were created using a support vector machine (SVM), and their accuracies were compared. In the spectrum analysis, the theta band showed significantly higher power spectrum values in the MCI group. In the comparison of the accuracies of SVM models, the model using the theta band showed higher values in parameters, such as accuracy rate. These results suggested that the power spectrum values of the theta band are useful for discriminating MCI patients. © 2024 IEEE.

Our previous research showed that emulating dendritic neuron structure effectively addresses orientation detection challenges in learning tasks, reducing both learning time and costs compared to alternative neural network approaches. Our simulation model incorporates an On-Off Response mechanism in bipolar cells (BCs) and horizontal cells (HCs) for processing grayscale input images. To overcome limitations with single-channel input, we introduce color-selective cells. By integrating these cells, we enhance and select outputs of local orientation detection dendritic neurons, generating specific feature maps. These feature maps are generated using a biologically-inspired model that mimics the mechanism of color-selective cells. Additionally, global neurons are used to capture overall image features by aggregating outputs from local dendritic neurons. Our system utilizes backpropagation to update parameters of local orientation detection dendritic neurons. Furthermore, we integrate a learnable orientation detection neural network after the dendritic neuron stage. © 2024 SPIE.

Since the current Internet has accessibility issues due to Network Address Port Translation (NAPT) and different IP protocol versions, recent service such as video conferencing also uses a client-server model even if the service model is peer-to-peer. The authors have developed an overlay network protocol to realize peer-to-peer communication because of the lack of the enough implementation for peer-to-peer protocol tackling the accessibility issues. This paper have updated the implementation to support scalability and performance of the proposed protocol. The feature of the proposed protocol provides seamless connectivity over the Internet for any applications. This paper demonstrates the multi-point video conferencing service with the proposed protocol. The service can be available on the Internet even if it only supports local area communication because the proposed protocol virtually connects the conference service. The demonstration also shows the actual signaling process of the proposed protocol to realize the overlay network. Since the proposed system does not relay the communication data at the cloud, the service has high scalability with distributed peer-to-peer communication. © 2022 IEEE.

Detection of novel game cheating tools is critical for ensuring fair online play. Such cheating tools are visual-based and effectively avoid detection because they do not change the data of game software. With the development and popularity of artificial intelligence technology, it has become easier for individuals to develop cheating tools, such as a new cheating tool for first-person shooter games that searches for characters on the game screen and automatically targets them. Therefore, in this study, a new cheat detection method is proposed using machine learning. The proposed method can be used to detect new cheating tools based on object detection. © 2023 IEEE.

This paper provides an overview of IoT security challenges in smart cities. We examine cyber threats across the device, network, platform and data layers, analyzing real-world attacks that have disrupted critical municipal services (case studies). Statistics on expected global IoT growth highlight proliferation concerns (statistical data analysis). Key technical vulnerabilities like insecure interfaces, unpatched firmware and inadequate encryption are explored through examples (comparative analysis). A multilayered security approach is proposed encompassing network protections, access controls, data privacy, continuous monitoring and innovative technologies (conceptual framework). Additionally, the paper presents a comparative analysis of wireless protocols used in city IoT deployments (technical comparison). Overall, both practical incidents and technical assessments demonstrate the necessity of cybersecurity strategies tailored to IoT scale and heterogeneity in smart city contexts (supported claims). The Internet of Things (IoT) spreading requires an interconnection scheme to connect to each IoT device over the Internet. However, the Internet has several issues about accessible difficulty due to the Network Address Port Translation (NAPT) technology, the interoperability between IPv4 and IPv6, and disconnection due to mobility. As a technique for solving these issues, the authors have developed CYber PHysical Over-lay Network over Internet Communication (CYPHONIC) that supports accessibility and seamless mobility over the Internet. Since CYPHONIC nodes typically implement the full IP stack, including IPv4 and IPv6, CYPHONIC supports virtual IPv6 communication over physical IPv4/IPv6 networks. The virtual IPv6 communication provides inter-connectivity among CYPHONIC nodes over the Internet. The conventional implementation for CYPHONIC used ruby language to make a scalable performance. On the contrary, it also suffers from low packet throughput. This paper introduces the detailed implementation of the simple prototype system that supports a primary communication mechanism of CYPHONIC based on Go to increase performance. The developed prototype system consists of cloud service for authentification, CYPHONIC node management, packet relay among CYPHONIC nodes, and client service for CYPHONIC nodes. The evaluation results show that the prototype cloud service can handle increased signaling requests from the CYPHONIC nodes. We also confirmed that CYPHONIC nodes could communicate with sufficient communication quality. © 2022 IEEE.
