This paper explains an overview of research results of "Fusion of Communication Content and Broadcast Content", one of the two main pillars of "Content Fusion" research project conducted at the Interactive Communication and Media Contents Group of NICT. "Fusion of Communication and Broadcast" is a conventional keyword which means technology of converging communication and broadcasting networks as an infrastructure, whereas "Fusion of Communication and Broadcast Content" represents a technology of converging Web content and TV programs at content level. Fundamental technologies and model systems were established which can efficiently utilize Internet and TV programs without complicated operations even for people who are not familiar with computer operation, such as efficient methods of accessing information and utilization methods of newly added value of information, towards the age of multitude content of TV programs and Web content available in daily lives.

The sender, Alice, disorders the orthogonal product state sequence and sends it to Bob. After Alice has published the matching information of the particle sequence, Bob recovers the correct correspondences and makes an orthogonal measurement on the orthogonal product states to obtain the information sent by Alice. This paper presents a method to generate car-following patterns for individual drivers. We assume that driving is a recursive process. A driver recognizes a road environment such as velocity and following distance and adjusts gas and brake pedal positions. A vehicle status changes according to the driver's operation and the road environment changes according to the vehicle status. Driving patterns of each driver are modeled with a Gaussian mixture model (GMM), which is trained as a joint probability distribution of following distance, velocity, pedal position signals and their dynamics. Gas and brake pedal operation patterns are generated from the GMMs in a maximum likelihood criterion so that the conditional probability is maximized for a given environment i.e., following distance and velocity. Experimental results for a driving simulator show that car-following patterns generated from GMMs for three different drivers maintain their individual driving characteristics.

This paper presents the methods which make a design process of control system efficient. The real-time control framework makes writing real-time control programs easy. Real-time control programs are generated from simulation program automatically. The idea of an object model and the factory method pattern are used for automatic generation of real-time control program. Separation of platform dependent parts makes non real-time parts can be independent from platform. We develop a platform integrated environment of the simulation and the real-time control for control system using above methods.

In this paper, we try to estimate Japan's cabinet approval ratings by using neural networks. In addition, we try to extract the important features in input patterns. This is the first attempt to use neural networks and to interpret the mechanism of inference for approval estimation in a comprehensive way. Experimental results show that neural networks have much better performance than that obtained by the standard regression analysis in terms of training and testing errors. The information loss analysis reveals that the first variable, that is, the previous ratings should play the most important role in inference. Though the experimental result here shown is a preliminary one, it certainly suggests a possibility of the automatic inference of cabinet approval ratings.

In order to assist driver's vision, a real-time recognition system for traffic signs is proposed. After detecting sign candidates, biologically inspired opponent-color filters are used to extract symbol parts of signs. After normalizing the size of symbol, structural features are calculated to identify the sign. 5572 segmented images are used to design the algorithm. In a real-time system, the same sign in a sequence of frames is tracked, and a majority vote is used to integrate the recognition results. For test data, 93.8% recall rate and 99.3% precision rate could be attained. In-vehicle experiment also showed high recall and precision rates.

In the virtual ball game, such as soccer, football, basketball and hockey etc. in a virtual space, "pass" plays have a significant meaning for players to build up their games. Goodness of a passes course and its velocity is continuously varied, both spatially and temporarily by all motions of ally player avatars and opponent player avatars attending in the game. Because of this, a significant pass between the avatars may not easily be able to be analyzed and generated by the computer systems in real-time. In this paper, we propose a new algorithm that can realize this computation in real-time. Concretely, a real-time detection of a "space" or an "open space" for every avatar by using the idea of "AtoZ (Allocated Topographical Zone)" that Kawano et al., have already proposed. Based on this idea, we compute the reachable pass vector to any avatar in the game. Moreover, the space where a player can receive a pass given by the pass vector, prior to any other player, is defined as an "exclusively reachable pass zone" for the receiver, and is able to be computed by the algorithm.
