An efficient quantum secure direct communication scheme with authentication

In this paper an efficient quantum secure direct communication （QSDC） scheme with authentication is presented, which is based on quantum entanglement and polarized single photons. The present protocol uses Einstein-Podolsky-Rosen （EPR） pairs and polarized single photons in batches. A particle of the EPR pairs is retained in the sender＇s station, and the other is transmitted forth and back between the sender and the receiver, similar to the‘ping-pong＇ QSDC protocol. According to the shared information beforehand, these two kinds of quantum states are mixed and then transmitted via a quantum channel. The EPR pairs are used to transmit secret messages and the polarized single photons used for authentication and eavesdropping check. Consequently, because of the dual contributions of the polarized single photons, no classical information is needed. The intrinsic efficiency and total efficiency are both 1 in this scheme as almost all of the instances are useful and each EPR pair can be used to carry two bits of information.

The Department of technology Systems (TSYS) at East Carolina University has implemented a new faculty mentoring process to enable junior faculty members to learn from senior faculty members as they prepare for a career in academia. Five tenured professors and associate professors in the TSYS department have recently established a new process to mentor faculty members within the department who have begun not yet completed their initial tenure process at a major university. This process includes a series of workshops regarding academic performance expectations during the early stages of an academic career. Our commitment to new faculty takes on several related, yet distinct features. Examples of these initiatives include: 1) reduced workloads for new faculty for the first two years to enable them to generate individual and collaborative research activities, funded grants, and publications, 2) periodic university-wide training to learn policies and procedures that affect day-to-day activities on a college campus, 3) periodic workshops hosted by senior faculty mentors, and 4) one-on-one discussions between senior faculty members and junior faculty members to encourage candid dialogue between professional colleagues. Another feature of the mentorship philosophy is a proposal to the dean of the college to offer newly hired faculty a contractual start date of July 1steach year instead of starting their contract one week prior to the start of fall classes, normally in late August. This additional period of time will be used to train new faculty in essential policies and procedures, to complete a variety of administrative tasks on campus, to get a head start on preparing for classes in the fall, and cleaning up those supplemental tasks that accompany every move to a new location. In this paper, we propose a new type of information-theoretic approach to variable selection. Many approaches have been proposed in estimating the importance of input variables. The majority of these approaches have focused upon output errors. We here introduce an approach concerning internal representations. First, we delete an input unit with corresponding connection weights. Then, by examining some change in hidden unit activation with and without a input variable, we can extract an important variable. We apply this method to an artificial data in which the number of hidden units is redundantly increased so as to clearly show improved performance and the stability of our method. Then, we apply the method to the cabinet approval ratings in which better interpretation of input variables can be given

In this paper, we present a new approach to investigate the existence and design of reduced-order proper H_(infinity) controllers that provide the same level of performance as that of full-order controllers. By revealing some special features of the LMI-based solvability conditions for the H_(infinity) control problem for descriptor systems, we obtain a refined bound on the order of H_(infinity) controllers, which is independent of (invariant under the allowed transformations on) a descriptor realization of the generalized plant. Moreover, we provide two LMI-based algorithms to design the reduced-order controllers and demonstrate the validity of the presented theoretical results via two numerical examples. This paper not only extends in a satisfying way the results on reduced-order H_(infinity) controllers for state-space systems to descriptor systems, but also provides insight into the mechanism by which the order of H_(infinity) controllers for descriptor systems can be reduced through a consideration of the unstable finite zeros or infinite zeros.

A binary sequence from the GMW constructions is defined by a chain of power functions and trace functions. In this paper, for such a sequence, we present a criterion on the decimation such that the crosscorrelation between its decimation and its adjoint sequence is independent of all the powers. Since a binary GMW or cascaded GMW sequence is the same as its adjoint sequence, the crosscorrelation of the sequence and its decimations can be determined from known results on m-sequences by the criterion. Furthermore, we discuss the 3-valued and 4-valued correlation functions of cascaded GMW sequences.

We have performed numerical study on random Boolean networks with power-law rank outdegree distributions to find local structural cause for emergence of high or low degree of coherence in binary state variables of the entire networks. The degree of randomness and coherence of the binary sequence, are measured by entropy and mutual information, depend on local structure that consists of a node with highly connected, called hub, and its upstream nodes, and types of Boolean functions for the nodes. With the larger number of output connections from a hub, the effects of Boolean function on the hub are more prominent. The local structures that give larger entropy tends to give rise to larger mutual information. On the basis of both numerical results and structural condition we derived time-independnt transmission characteristic function of state variables for local structures. We show good relations between the numerical and the analytical results, reveals that dynamical properties from the whole networks can be inferred from the differences in the local structures. ©ISAROB 2007.

We present a new technique of VLSI chip-level thermal analysis. We extend a newly developed method of solving two dimensional Laplace equations to thermal analysis of four adjacent materials on a mother board. We implement our technique in C and compare its performance to that of a commercial CAD tool. Our experimental results show that our program runs 5.8 and 8.9 times faster while keeping smaller residuals by 5 and 1 order of magnitude, respectively.

Fault-based testing aims at selecting test cases to detect hypothesized faults in a *** a program contains a fault so that it behaves differently from as is expected, test cases that satisfy the detection condition of the fault will be able to detect it. Detection conditions of single occurrence of hypothesized faults had been studied and used to propose testing strategies and investigate relationships between different types of faults. As software developers may make several mistakes during software development, multiple faults may occur in a program. In this paper, we report our study in detection conditions of double occurrences of faults related to literals in a Boolean expression. This leads to some interesting observations. Some previous studies in double fault discarded equivalent mutants caused by a single fault. However, we observe that such equivalent mutants may give rise to non-equivalent double fault mutants, and hence, cannot be discarded. Moreover, we have developed several supplementary test case selection strategies to detect double faults that cannot be detected by existing test case selection strategies which aim at single-fault detection.

A new test vector compression method for VLSI circuit testing is presented in this paper. The technique is essentially software-based, where a program is loaded into the on-chip processor memory along with the compressed test data sets. To reduce the on-chip storage area and testing time, the large volume of test data is first compressed before downloading into the on-chip processor. The proposed method utilizes a set of adaptive coding techniques for achieving lossless compression. The compression program need not be loaded into the embedded processor, as only the decompression of the test data is is necessary for application by the automatic test equipment (ATE). The technique requires minimal hardware overhead, while the on-chip processor core can be reused for normal operation after testing. The feasibility of the developed approach has been demonstrated through extensive simulation experiments on ISCAS 85 and ISCAS 89 benchmark circuits.
