Test-cases play an important roll for high quality software testing. Inadequate test-cases may cause bugs remaining after testing. Overlapped test-cases lead to increases in testing costs. The paper proposes a test-case generation method with the EIAG (Event InterActions Graph) and the ISTC (Interaction Sequences Testing Criteria). The EIAG represents behavior of concurrent programs. It consists of Event Graphs and Interactions. An Event Graph is a control flow graph of a program unit in a concurrent program. The Interactions represent interactions (synchronizations, communications and waits) between the program units. The ISTC proposed are based on sequences of Interactions. The cooperated paths (copaths) on the EIAG as test-cases satisfying the ISTC are generated. The generated copaths can detect dead (unreachable) statements which concern interactions, and they can find some communication errors and deadlocks in testing. It is, however, necessary to validate feasibility of the generated copaths. © 1999 IEEE.

Time optimal control under bounded input has been studied. This paper presents a computational strategy to obtain the time optimal control for nonlinear systems, and discrete time control under input bound is considered. The swing up control of a single pendulum from pendant stable equilibrium to upright unstable equilibrium is used to illustrate our approaches. For a simplified model of the single pendulum, which is a second-order system, an approach based on the linear programming method is introduced, while for the actual single pendulum, an approach based on nonlinear optimization is introduced. Simulation results show that our computational approaches are feasible.

Connectivity between language related Brodmann areas derived from analyses of data source provided by Conel (1939-1967) has been proposed. The analysis consists of computing the correlation coefficients between each layer of one cortical area to each layer of another cortical area over the 8 age points. A "connection" was created between two layers of two cortical areas if: 1) its z-score have significance level less than 20%, and 2) the two layers began myelinating at the same age point. Predicted connections are consistent with neural network models derived neuro-imaging, psychological tests, and also support some seemingly unusual findings reported by others.

Frequency domain subspace model identification using the w -operator

This paper proposes an efficient and convenient approach to frequency domain subspace identification for continuous-time systems. In the case of continuous-time models, the data matrices often become ill-conditioned if we simply rewrite the Laplace operator s as s = jw where w denotes the frequency. To avoid the ill-conditioned problem, the operator w = ( s - b.α)/( s + b.α) is introduced such that the system can be identified based on a state-space model in the w -operator. And then the estimated w -operator state-space model can be transformed back to the common continuous-time state-space model. An instrumental variable matrix in the frequency domain is also proposed to obtain consistent estimate in the presence of measurement noise.

In the discovery of useful theorems or laws from the data of observed instances, structures that group instances often play an important role. Acquiring data from such structure avoids the combinatorial explosion of numerous instances and enables the discovery of generalized theorems. This paper proposes a method for discovering useful theorems in the domain of plane geometry by using data from triangles, that form the basic structure in figures. We have implemented DIGEST, a discovery system based on geometrical structure, which generates figures by itself and finds theorems by using the relations among the areas of observed triangles. DIGEST succeeds in discovering new useful theorems as well as rediscovering well-known theorems such as the Menelaus Theorem and the Ceva Theorem. © 1998 Scripta Technica, Syst Comp Jpn, 29(6): 74–81, 1998

This paper deals with estimations of aspirated air flow in a three-dimensional vocal tract during fricative consonant phonation using the Finite Element Method (FEM). The shape of the 3-D vocal tract during phonation of fricative consonant/s/is reconstructed from 32 coronal Magnetic Resonance (MR) images. MR images of the dental crown that contains a small amount of water were obtained using a dental crown plate. A 3-D FEM vocal tract model is formed so that the number of elements is 28686, the number of nodes is 7010, and a rigid wall constitutes the vocal tract wall. Results showed that the flow rate was high at the narrow space made between the upper central incisors and the tongue surface. An electric equivalent circuit for fricative consonant phonation was designed in consideration of the location of the noise source. © 1998. 5th International Conference on Spoken Language Processing, ICSLP 1998. First, we will describe the concept and implementation issues of our "Dynamically Extendible Museum", a system which enables the users to create their favorite virtual spaces dynamically and incrementally from databases in order to present the objects retrieved by the user's queries. Second, we propose a mechanism to incrementally formulate user's query by letting the user select objects in a virtual space. We also discuss implementation issues of our prototype systems using museum metaphors to demonstrate our ideas.

Sensitivity to the perturbation in the initial condition of a model of impact fracture is observed. Numerical simulations show that the small perturbation in the initial condition is expanded following a power law by the dynamics of the model. The propagation of the effect of the perturbation inside a fractured object during the crack propagation is discussed.
