The paper proposes a new framework of measuring software development processes and validates its effectiveness by examples. The key idea of this proposed framework is that all activities on measurement could be explained by a mathematical model of the process to be measured. In this framework, a Petri net model is used as the model of the process, since it is one of the most powerful models to represent concurrent processes such as software development processes. The proposed framework consists of four steps: (1) process modeling; (2) metric definition; (3) process and metric implementation; and (4) process and metric execution. The authors show that the proposed framework can make it possible to measure a software development process in a systematic way from experimental evaluations in an academic environment. The proposed framework has the potential to produce three future technologies of software measurement.< >

INTRODUCTION Object-oriented programming is proving to be quite useful in many areas which have not been served well by more conventional *** fact, any real world object can be modeled in an object oriented *** real-world objects may exist and do things concurrently,object-oriented systems also show great potential for exploiting concurrence/*** many object-oriented languages currently in use are sequential(such as C++,Smalltalk-80, Eiffel). How to implement object-oriented languages on parallel systems is still a promising research topic.

A model of physical ownership for multiple robots is formulated, and implemented on a reactive operating system for autonomous mobile robots available in an intelligent robot-supported software system or groupware. The model is particularly useful in implementing algorithms with which multiple robots with heterogeneous goals working under the groupware can reallocate tasks by themselves. The paper describes the physical ownership model and how it can be implemented, as well as the robots, reactive operating system, robot supported groupware and task reallocation algorithm, now running in our laboratory.< >

The SA'AR-5 Corvette program is the first major warship construction to be entirely accomplished using a 3-dimensional, interference checked computer based design. This paper discusses the organization and approach used to create the design models which form the basis for interference checking as well as the source of extracted production data. The design or product model is the nucleus of the computer data base that defines the configuration of the entire ship. The data base includes geometry, weight, and material, as well as production control data. The ability of the computer to link such diverse information is the key to maintaining configuration control during the course of the design and construction. The ease with which formatted manufacturing data (both N.C. fabrication and installation) can be extracted enables the preparation of detailed packages containing the desired geometry as well as the associated material and sequencing data, thus assuring the producibility of the design. The SA'AR-5 design is CAD/CAM's state of the art in U.S. shipbuilding.
Two assumptions which are generally made in decision theory are: (a) all the information necessary for decision-making is available, and thus the decision problem reduces to utilizing the information to make the best ...
