Social media has now become a place for others to exchange information in the form of writing, photos, videos, and audio. Social media has become a place for humans to interact from all over the world. In the use of social media, attractive professional information is conceptualized as access to relevant information and opening up better career opportunities. User content about work and choosing personal information compilation strategies consistently predict information usefulness. This study discusses the effect of using a linked-in application on the success of its users in the professional world. It is hoped that it can provide insight into the use of this recruitment application, making it easier for users to find work. The research model used in this research is quantitative. The survey was conducted on connected users in Indonesia using an online questionnaire, and the data collected was analyzed using PLS-SEM. Of the 68 respondents who took the survey, it can be said that all research models have a positive relationship with the successful use of the linked-in platform. © 2022 IEEE.

Stereo Matching for Face Images Based on Feature Points

Stereo matching is the key of reconstructing 3D face model from 2D face images and Barnard's algorithm is one of the classical stereo matching algorithms based on feature points. In order to enhance the stability of extracting feature points, reduce computational complexity and minimize the effect of subjective factors, in this paper, Barnard's algorithm of edge point matching was improved from two aspects: edge point sets of left and right face images were extracted with dyadic wavelet transform, rather than comparing gray values of adjacent pixels; on the other hand, edge points in binocular stereo face images were matched under epipolar constraint in parallel binocular stereo matching. Experimental results demonstrate that stability and efficiency of stereo matching algorithm are both improved.

How does working from home affect developer productivity?——A case study of Baidu during the COVID-19 pandemic

Nowadays, working from home(WFH) has become a popular work arrangement due to its many potential benefits for both companies and employees(e.g., increasing job satisfaction and retention of employees). Many previous studies have investigated the impact of WFH on the productivity of ***, most of these studies usually use a qualitative analysis method such as surveys and interviews,and the studied participants do not work from home for a long continuing time. Due to the outbreak of coronavirus disease 2019(COVID-19), a large number of companies asked their employees to work from home, which provides us an opportunity to investigate whether WFH affects their productivity. In this study, to investigate the difference in developer productivity between WFH and working onsite, we conduct a quantitative analysis based on a dataset of developers' daily activities from Baidu Inc., one of the largest IT companies in China. In total, we collected approximately four thousand records of 139 developers' activities of 138 working days. Out of these records, 1103 records are submitted when developers work from home due to the COVID-19 pandemic. We find that WFH has both positive and negative impacts on developer productivity in terms of different metrics, e.g., the number of builds/commits/code reviews. We also notice that WFH has different impacts on projects with different characteristics including programming language,project type/age/size. For example, WFH has a negative impact on developer productivity for large ***, we find that productivity varies for different developers. Based on these findings, we get some feedback from developers of Baidu and understand some reasons why WFH has different impacts on developer productivity. We also conclude several implications for both companies and developers.

Smart cities promise a lot of well-being to their users in all areas of life through millions of applications and services. Smart services rely heavily on collecting data and the preferences of users. But on the dark side, the users' information is posed to threat and penetration during transmission or stored far in the clouds. Depending on encryption only is not sufficient if the attacker has strong resources or if the attacker is the service provider (SP) itself. In addition, changing data before sending is not a practical solution in many systems because of the adverse impact on the quality of a main service. This research presented a new idea to address the issue of protection. The proposed method enhanced the privacy and security of users' data without affecting the accuracy of service. The core of the suggested solution relies on a knowledge base of services that are managed by experts. Also, the solution depends on fog nodes to measure the level of security and privacy of users' queries without delay. Moreover, the fog nodes manage contact with SPs. Finally, the proposed method divided the SP into two, one for user queries and the other for user data. The simulation and analytical discussion on a practical case in smart cities demonstrated the superiority of the proposed approach over previous methods in the level of protection by maintaining the quality of services, and the resistance to attacks. © 2023 Bharati Vidyapeeth, New Delhi.

The rapid development of Internet of Things (IoT) technology has enabled the widespread deployment of health monitoring systems. Traditionally, the health monitoring system has been limited by centralized processing and storage in the cloud, leading to latency issues and potential data loss. This paper introduces a smart sleep monitoring system based on edge computing, utilizing microservices architecture and caching techniques. The proposed system employs edge computing to enable data processing closer to the source, reducing latency and improving real-time monitoring capabilities. Caching is employed to reduce database load and optimize random access memory (RAM) usage. This research addresses latency and response time challenges on IoT health monitoring platforms in environments with poor network quality while optimizing database load and resource usage on Jetson Nano as the edge computing device. Using Electrocardiogram (ECG) data as input, the proposed system yields impressive performance metrics. The research results indicate that the proposed system can increase throughput by 26.92 KB/s, reduce response time by 18.8 ms, and decrease latency by 20.86 ms compared to the previous work. Message Queuing Telemetry Transport (MQTT) integration reduces CPU usage by approximately 40% and RAM usage by about 81.24%.

We have developed HEARTS, a dementia care training system using augmented reality based on Humanitude. Humanitude is a multimodal comprehensive care technique for dementia, and has attracted attention as a method to reduce the burden on both caregivers and patients. However, the HEARTS developed so far could not evaluate “speaking” skills based on the content of conversations among “seeing,” “touching,” and “speaking,” all of which are fundamental skills in Humanitude. Therefore, we attempted a new quantitative evaluation of trainees' “speaking” skills by estimating the emotional value of conversational content using GPT-4 named HEARTS 5. A survey of caregivers was conducted using the developed system and was well received by the participants. We also developed a HEARTS 5 conversational version based on HEARTS 5, with the addition of GPT-4 conversation generation and Azure Text-to-Speech.

Sarcasm detection is a difficult task in sentiment analysis because sarcasm often includes both positive and negative sentiments, making it difficult to identify. In recent years, visual information has been used to study sarcasm in social media data. Based on sentiment contrast in image and text, this paper proposes a Multimodal Sentiment and Sarcasm Gradient Co-training (MSSGC) model. The model uses text and image feature sharing networks to explicitly learn image and text sentimental features from image and text sentiment datasets and integrates a cross-modal fusion module for Multimodal Sarcasm Detection (MSD). The training algorithm uses the sentimental features for sarcasm detection by weighting the sentiment and sarcasm classification gradients. Extensive experiments, including case studies, are performed to evaluate the MSSGC model. The results illustrate that the proposed model outperforms recent MSD models. In this paper, the authors investigate the current state of the lighting design and control sector in Thailand’s creative industry. The government aims to promote the creative industry as a key source of income, but there needs more skilled professionals in the industry. The authors have found that successful cases have used the Internet for remote controlling in the creative industry in other countries. Therefore, the paper will explore the potential of using technology to improve professional efficiency and assess the feasibility of implementing remote lighting control systems via the Internet with Thai lighting designers and lighting console operators. Data will be collected through qualitative in-depth interviews and quantitative surveys. The results have shown a promising acceptance rate of wireless devices for lighting control due to their mobility, flexibility, cost-effectiveness, and positive attitudes toward adopting Internet technology. The authors have also proposed a concept design for an internet-based control system tailored to Thai users, focusing on simplicity, ease of connection, and user-friendliness to accommodate those with limited network configuration knowledge. The proposed system aims to reduce professionals, save time, and increase convenience, leveraging Thailand’s extensive wireless internet coverage. These systems could significantly benefit Thailand’s creative industry by addressing the shortage of skilled professionals and improving efficiency.

This article proposes an intelligent platform for monitoring students' steps on their way to school until they leave the school to their homes. This platform can identify students and notify those responsible and competent authorities in various situations of school life, such as: entering and leaving the school bus, entering and leaving school, entering the school cafeteria, etc. The first application aims to control access to the school bus through facial recognition. In the tests carried out, the recognition system achieved excellent results in all metrics. © 2023 IEEE.

In recent years, knowledge graphs have been integrated into recommender systems as item-side auxiliary information, enhancing recommendation accuracy. However, constructing and integrating structural user-side knowledge remains a significant challenge due to the improper granularity and inherent scarcity of user-side features. Recent advancements in Large Language Models (LLMs) offer the potential to bridge this gap by leveraging their human behavior understanding and extensive real-world knowledge. Nevertheless, integrating LLM-generated information into recommender systems presents challenges, including the risk of noisy information and the need for additional knowledge transfer. In this paper, we propose an LLM-based user-side knowledge inference method alongside a carefully designed recommendation framework to address these challenges. Our approach employs LLMs to infer user interests based on historical behaviors, integrating this user-side information with item-side and collaborative data to construct a hybrid structure: the Collaborative Interest Knowledge Graph (CIKG). Furthermore, we propose a CIKG-based recommendation framework that includes a user interest reconstruction module and a cross-domain contrastive learning module to mitigate potential noise and facilitate knowledge transfer. We conduct extensive experiments on three real-world datasets to validate the effectiveness of our method. Our approach achieves state-of-the-art performance compared to competitive baselines, particularly for users with sparse interactions.
