The tightening global emission regulations are com-pelling original equipment manufacturers and researchers to prioritize electrified solutions. In developing countries, fossfl fuel-powered vehicles are expected to continue being the primary choice for light-duty passenger vehicles in the medium term. It is crucial to recognize that micro and mild hybrid electric vehicles can make a significant contribution to reducing emissions and mitigating environmental impact. Electric machine designs with fewer or no rare-earth permanent magnets will play an important role in the widespread adoption of hybrid solutions. In this context, doubly salient reluctance machines exhibit a simple structure, robust mechanical strength, excellent fault tolerance, and a wide speed regulation range, making them well-suited for in-wheel applications. Particular emphasis should be placed on flux-switching ma-chines, which offer great operating flexibility, efficient heat dissipation, and power density of up to 4.8 kW/kg. This paper introduces a wound-field flux-switching machine designed for in-wheel applications, featuring individual field current control. Firstly, the machine is reconfigured to enable independent control of field currents, with a dedicated test bench equipped for precise current control. The primary objective of this research is to enhance the machine's operational versatility by facilitating electronic adjustment of the number of poles, promoting balanced operation' and auamentina field-weakenina capabilities. © 2023 IEEE.

Automatic control for passengers’ recognition has been a crucial point in public intelligent transport systems. It allows the identification of the passengers’ origins and destinations, enabling the prediction of the number of passengers and the actual system demands for effective planning. In this work, a passenger recognition system using Radio-Frequency Identification (RFID) technology - EPC Gen2 standard - in public transport systems is studied. This study evaluated different models of tags and antennas placement, considering several positions where the users usually carry a RFID card. Tests were conducted with people of different biotypes. The performed tests also evaluated the number of readers’ antennas varying from one up to four. © 2016

State of the art (SOTA) neural text to speech (TTS) models can generate natural-sounding synthetic voices. These models are characterized by large memory footprints and substantial number of operations due to the long-standing focus on speech quality with cloud inference in mind. Neural TTS models are generally not designed to perform standalone speech syntheses on resource-constrained and no Internet access edge devices. In this work, an efficient neural TTS called EfficientSpeech that synthesizes speech on an ARM CPU in real-time is proposed. EfficientSpeech uses a shallow non-autoregressive pyramid-structure transformer forming a U-Network. EfficientSpeech has 266k parameters and consumes 90 MFLOPS only or about 1% of the size and amount of computation in modern compact models such as Mixer-TTS. EfficientSpeech achieves an average mel generation real-time factor of 104.3 on an RPi4. Human evaluation shows only a slight degradation in audio quality as compared to FastSpeech2. © 2023 IEEE.

Community and a sense of belonging are commonly accepted as two of the biggest predictors of academic success in higher education. Additionally, student distress, accidental death from risky behavior, and suicide can be combatted primarily through connections, according to the University's Suicide Prevention program. Due to the nature of the work, it is easy for graduate students to become isolated and disconnected. Increased rigor, perfectionistic tendencies and demand for original impactful contributions make graduate school stressful. The very nature of the learning process creates dissonance by presenting hurdles and problems to be solved. Creating connection, community and a sense of professional belonging can make our graduate programs thrive instead of ridden with student attrition, students just making it through, or worse. Initiatives were begun in a large graduate engineering program. This is a discussion of the good, the bad, and the ugly of the first attempts of the programming. Some of the components include small group leadership of new students, Get Launched for Success Workshop Series, weekly email outreach spotlighting University resources, suicide risk assessment, Group Wellness Coaching, collaboration with graduate student organization officers, student interest surveys, and "Surviving the Holidays" workshop presented by campus counseling services. Support was solidified from faculty leadership to create a wellness culture. The department chair was approached for approval of a budget for food for events in autumn semester. Faculty who had experienced a student's accidental death just months prior were approached about recommending their advisees participate in Group Wellness Coaching with the objective of creating community and connection. In order to be intentional, consultation regarding objectives, outcomes and evaluation was sought. University resources utilized include Counseling & Consultation Services, Office of Diversity, Student Wellness

A method to detect boundaries in in natural color images is here proposed, combining edge information and region information. This unsupervised fully automatic process uses edge map information to eliminate false boundaries in the image region map, and region map information to remove noise in the image edge map. Thus, it integrates these two maps into a single one to get the final result. This proposal is extensively compared to the multi-label graph cut approach, since both approaches are unsupervised and fully automatic, as well as receive the same two inputs, although performing different processing. Experiments performed on a large set of natural color images were the base for such comparison. The results show that the approach here proposed is promising, besides allowing interesting interpretations about boundary detection. © 2011 IEEE.

In optoelectronics, achieving electrical reconfigurability is crucial as it enables the encoding, decoding, manipulating, and processing of information carried by light. In recent years, two-dimensional van der Waals (2-D vdW) materials have emerged as promising platforms for realizing reconfigurable optoelectronic devices. Compared to materials with bulk crystalline lattice, 2-D vdW materials offer superior electrical reconfigurability due to high surface-to-volume ratio, quantum confinement, reduced dielectric screening effect, and strong dipole resonances. Additionally, their unique band structures and associated topology and quantum geometry provide novel tuning capabilities. This review article seeks to establish a connection between the fundamental physics underlying reconfigurable optoelectronics in 2-D materials and their burgeoning applications in intelligent optoelectronics. We first survey various electrically reconfigurable properties of 2-D vdW materials and the underlying tuning mechanisms. Then we highlight the emerging applications of such devices, including dynamic intensity, phase and polarization control, and intelligent sensing. The public buildings analysis with emphasis on energy efficiency policies, as recommended in the Brazilian Labeling program (PBE-EDIFICA), represents an excellent opportunity for power managers to apply energy conservation measures, reducing the operating costs of organizations and to adequate the efficient use of electric power. Because of the Technical Quality Regulation for the Efficiency Level of Commercial Buildings, Services and Public Buildings (RTQ-C), it is possible to evaluate the construction and program actions in order to achieve the highest levels of power efficiency, which is the focus of the developed paper. In other words, it means the evaluation of the lighting and air conditioning systems of the Val de Cães Naval Base Command Building and the propose of retrofitting and energy efficiency actions to reach achieve PBE classification level A. © 2018 IEEE.

Due to the considerable increase in the insertion of electronic components to Electric Power Systems (EPSs), the present article analyzes a method to eliminate undesired currents originated by nonlinear loads connected to the grid and further performs the Power Factor (PF) correction on single-phase rectifier loads. The proposed solution uses the topology of the DC-DC boost converter working in the Boundary Conduction Mode (BCM) as a Power Factor Correction (PFC) circuit and implemented using the One Cycle Control (OCC) strategy, which proposes high efficiency during the switching period. The simulations yielded interesting results regarding the proposed control method, with the results showing the increase of the PF and reduction of the source current Total Harmonic Distortion (THD), benefiting the power quality of the system. © 2019 IEEE.

This paper aims to develop the assessment model of Quality of Experience (QoE) for the upcoming 5G mobile technology. The 5G usage scenarios have been developed by ITU to facilitate mobile capabilities that will be needed in the future, namely Enhanced Mobile Broadband, Ultra-reliable and low latency communications, and Massive Machine type communications. The model links the technical concern of Quality of Service (QoS) to the relevant 5G service experience on each of 5G scenarios. It utilizes the crowdsourcing service quality assessment on the three characteristics. First, it signifies the 5G service applications underlying enhanced multimedia broadband scenario which is differentiated by location-related two cases, i.e. the hotspot area and wide area coverage. Second, the model signifies the 5G service underlying the ultra-reliable and low-latency communications which is focusing on QoS parameters, i.e. latency, reliability and availability. Third, the developed model emphasizes energy efficiency implication on the scenario of massive-machine type communications. Finally, the model can be used by mobile operators as a reference guide to asses and also to improve the quality of experience when the values are below expectation. © 2017 IEEE.

In this paper, we present the improving the feature extraction method of the MFCC algorithm for noise robustness when there is interference in the speech input signal. The various parameter extraction with new technique as the descend-delta-mean and mel frequency cepstral coefficients is called the DDMMFCC. The purpose is to require the noise robustness of feature vector extracted from the speech signal with the characteristic coefficients of the DDM-MFCC algorithm. In order to increase the speech and speakers recognition accuracy rate, the DDM technique is a new method of finding the average value of a descendant of power spectrum magnitude. The process consisting method of rearranging magnitude of the spectral power is reduced to a minimum in each frequency band of the speech signal, and to find the difference in the arrangement. Finally, to determine the value of mean. The experiment results of the proposed robustness feature extraction DDM-MFCC algorithm and the conventional of MFCC algorithm is compared, when the training and testing dataset is the 0-9 Isolated THAI digits speech of 10 THAI speakers recognition. With additive random white Gaussian noise is added for testing dataset with signal to noise ratio (SNR) as 0, 5, 10, 15 and 20 dB, respectively. Simulation results of proposed DMM-MFCC algorithm are shown higher rate of recognition accuracy rate than the conventional MFCC algorithm. © 2019 IEEE.
