He is working in support of PEO (TAD) Ship Self-Defense Program in several areas including performance assessment. He retired from the Navy in 1991 after several years at sea and various material command assignment including command of Caron (DD-970) and Aegis technical director. He is an ASNE Member who has an MS in physics from the Naval Postgraduate School. He graduated from the University of Notre Dame with a BS in civil engineering and earned his commission through the NROTC program there. Thomas H. McCants Jr.:is currently a principal system engineer in the ship defense department of the Naval Surface Warfare Center Dahlgren Division. He is supporting the PEO (TAD) in systems engineering and analysis and is supporting the Office of Naval Research in a 6.2 Ship Self-Defense program. He was previously the lead lab program manager for STANDARD Missile led the Aegis Systems Analysis and T&E organization at NSWC was Phalanx CIWS lead lab program manager and was the air target vulnerability program manager at the Center. In 1977–78 Mr. McCants was the NSAP science advisor to COMOPTEVFOR Norfolk. He graduated from VPI&SU with a BS in aerospace engineering and is pursuing a MS in systems engineering from VPI&SU. Robert Grabarek:is currently an electronics engineer in the requirements and analysis branch of the Ship Self-Defense Program Office. He is a 1981 graduate of the U.S. Naval Academy and served six years on active duty as a surface warfare officer. He has earned his MA in operations research and industrial engineering from VPI&SU.

He is currently an Associate Executive Director of the Network Technology Division at COMSAT Laboratories. He has been involved in research and development activities in ISDN VSAT networks data communications and network systems and architectures. Prior to his current positions Dr. Chitre was a Principal Scientist in the Network Technology Division at COMSAT Laboratories. Dr. Chitre joined COMSAT Laboratories in 1980. He has made major contributions to the analysis and architecture of data communication ISDN and BISDN via satellite. Dr. Chitre directs and participates in the international and national standards activities in ISDN BISDN and data communication as they apply to satellite communication. He was Chairman of the Working Group on Protocols and Network Timing Function of the CCIR/CCITT Joint Ad Hoc Group on ISDN/Satellite Matters during 1990–1992. From September 1981 to December 1983 he was a graduate teaching assistant with Georgia Tech. Since January 1984 he has been with The Johns Hopkins University Applied Physics Laboratory where he has principally been involved with the development of circular overmoded waveguides and tapered waveguide transitions for use in naval radar systems. Dr. Huting is a member of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers. Jeffery W. Warren:received a B.S. degree in 1982 and an M.S. degree in 1984 both in electrical engineering from the University of South Carolina. His thesis research evaluated electro-optical measurements of surface charging of insulators in low-frequency fields. He joined The Johns Hopkins University Applied Physics Laboratory in 1984. Mr. Warren's activities include development and testing of electro-optical systems and the development of high-power low-loss overmoded waveguides. Hayden Griffin Jr.:received his B.S. and M.S. in mechanical engineering from Texas Tech University in 1970 and 1971 respectively. He received his Ph.D. in engineering mechanics from Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University in 1980. He received a B.S. degree in physics and mathematics from Arkansas Polytechnic College in 1965 attended graduate school at Southern Illinois University and University of Illinois receiving a M.S. degree in physics in 1967. He was an electro optics engineer for Delco Electronics before joining NSWC in 1972. He worked as a physicist in naval weapons guidance and control technology from 1972 until joining the Aegis shipbuilding program in 1983. Currently he serves as a combat system engineering group leader supporting the Aegis Program Office (NSWC). In this position he is responsible for a task supporting the Aegis Project Office (PMS-400) for present and planned combat system R&D.

He served on seven destroyers and cruisers in weapons billets before being designated engineering duty officer in 1977. His engineering duty assignments include Terrier department officer at NSWSES from 1977 to 1980 and Spruance class combat systems engineer at Naval Sea Systems Command until 1982. Capt. Chenard developed the master ordnance repair program with support from Shipbuilders Council of America. He is currently the NAVSEA project manager for long range missile weapon systems. Capt. Chenard has been a member of the American Society of Naval Engineers (ASNE) since 1981.
