Strong light-matter interactions enable unique nonlinear and quantum phenomena at moderate light intensities. Within the last years, polaritonic metasurfaces emerged as a viable candidate for realization of such regimes. In particular, planar photonic structures integrated with 2D excitonic materials, such as transition metal dichalcogenides (TMD), can support exciton polaritons – half-light half-matter quasiparticles. Here, we explore topological exciton polaritons which are formed in a suitably engineered all-dielectric topological photonic metasurface coupled to TMD monolayers. We experimentally demonstrate the transition of topological charge from photonic to polaritonic bands with the onset of strong coupling regime and confirm the presence of one-way spin-polarized edge topological polaritons. The proposed system constitutes a promising platform for photonic/solid-state interfaces for valleytronics and spintronics. © 2021 Institute of physics Publishing. All rights reserved.

Terahertz spin dynamics in rare-earth orthoferrites

Recent interest in developing fast spintronic devices and laser-controllable magnetic solids has sparked tremendous experimental and theoretical efforts to understand and manipulate ultrafast dynamics in *** of spin dynamics in the terahertz(THz)frequency range are particularly important for elucidating microscopic pathways toward novel device ***,we review THz phenomena related to spin dynamics in rare-earth orthoferrites,a class of materials promising for antiferromagnetic *** expand this topic into a description of four key elements.(1)We start by describing THz spectroscopy of spin excitations for probing magnetic phase transitions in thermal *** acoustic magnons are useful indicators of spin reorientation transitions,electromagnons that arise from dynamic magnetoelectric couplings serve as a signature of inversion-symmetry-breaking phases at low temperatures.(2)We then review the strong laser driving scenario,where the system is excited far from equilibrium and thereby subject to modifications to the free-energy *** pathways for ultrafast laser manipulation of magnetic order are discussed.(3)Furthermore,we review a variety of protocols to manipulate coherent THz magnons in time and space,which are useful capabilities for antiferromagnetic spintronic applications.(4)Finally,new insights into the connection between dynamic magnetic coupling in condensed matter and the Dicke superradiant phase transition in quantum optics are *** presenting a review on an array of THz spin phenomena occurring in a single class of materials,we hope to trigger interdisciplinary efforts that actively seek connections between subfields of spintronics,which will facilitate the invention of new protocols of active spin control and quantum phase engineering.

In this contribution, we present the analysis and design of a novel class of metasurface-based antennas, whose radiative capabilities are enabled by temporal (time-switched) metamaterials. In particular, we consider a thin metasurface supporting the propagation of a surface wave that can switch instantaneously from a finite capacitive value of the surface impedance to an open circuit, resulting in a temporal interface. We demonstrate that after the temporal switch of the metasurface properties, the surface wave is instantaneously coupled to free space realizing a highly directive beam in end-fire direction. Thanks to wavenumber conservation across a temporal interface, we demonstrate that the proposed metasurface-based antenna can radiate at a much higher frequency with respect to the source frequency. Analytical formulations and numerical simulations are provided to predict and verify the frequency upshift and the radiation characteristics of the proposed novel antenna.

Early and advanced crystallization stages in lithia-alumina-silica glasses nucleated by ZrO2

ZrO2 is one of the most effective and widely used nucleating agents in various families of glass-ceramics;however, its detailed mechanism remains a subject of debate. Understanding its nucleation mechanism requires a thorough analysis of microstructural evolution and the identification of factors influencing this process. This study investigates the effects of ZrO2 incorporation on the internal nucleation and microstructural evolution in stoichiometric LAS (Li2O·Al2O3·nSiO2) glass-ceramics of varying composition. Glasses with different SiO2 molar ratios (n = 2, 4, 5, and 6) were prepared with ZrO2 additions of 3.0 and 3.5 mol%. Several thermal treatments were employed, followed by characterization using XRD, SEM, STEM, and Raman spectroscopy. The results indicate that a minimum of 3.5 mol% ZrO2 is required to induce internal nucleation in LAS glasses with n = 4, 5, and 6. In these compositions, Zr-enriched regions formed through liquid-liquid phase separation serve as preferential sites for ZrO2 crystal precipitation, which subsequently induces the nucleation of β-quartz solid solution. Upon further treatment at higher temperatures, this metastable phase transforms into β-spodumene or its solid solution. As expected, increasing SiO2 content enhances glass network polymerization, as evidenced by the increased presence of Q3 species in Raman spectroscopy, leading to higher characteristic temperatures of glass transition and peak crystallization in DSC analyses. A higher SiO2 content results in fewer but larger crystals, whereas a lower SiO2 content promotes a higher number density of crystals within the glass matrix. © 2025 Elsevier Ltd and Techna Group S.r.l.

Delineation of prostate cancer (PCa) on ultrasound images has become an essential technique for early PCa treatment, which still faces several challenges, such as low image contrast and blurred organ boundaries. Facing the aforementioned issues, a novel coarse-fine segmentation framework method is adopted in this work. First, a deep learning algorithm is used for positioning the region of interest (ROI); then, the principal curve-related technique is adopted to fine-tune initial results. Thirdly, an enhanced quantum evolutionary algorithm is used to hunt for the optimal initialization of the backpropagation neural network. Finally, an interpretable mathematical model is introduced for representing the ROI contour by using the parameters of the neural network. A comprehensive evaluation using the clinical data proves the superiority of our method, with Dice similarity coefficient (DSC) of 83.48+3.44%, Jaccard similarity coefficient (Ω) of 82.25+4.12%, and accuracy (ACC) of 83.4+3.57%, respectively.

A goal of computational studies of protein-protein interfaces (PPIs) is to predict the binding site between two monomers that form a heterodimer. The simplest version of this problem is to rigidly re-dock the bound forms of the monomers, which involves generating computational models of the heterodimer and then scoring them to determine the most native-like models. Scoring functions have been assessed previously using rank- and classification-based metrics, however, these methods are sensitive to the number and quality of models in the scoring function training set. We assess the accuracy of seven PPI scoring functions by comparing their scores to a measure of structural similarity to the x-ray crystal structure (i.e. the DockQ score) for a non-redundant set of heterodimers from the Protein Data Bank. For each heterodimer, we generate re-docked models uniformly sampled over DockQ and calculate the Spearman correlation between the PPI scores and DockQ. For some targets, the scores and DockQ are highly correlated;however, for many targets, there are weak correlations. Several physical features can explain the difference between difficult- and easy-to-score targets. For example, strong correlations exist between the score and DockQ for targets with highly intertwined monomers and many interface contacts. We also develop a new score based on only three physical features that matches or exceeds the performance of current PPI scoring functions. These results emphasize that PPI prediction can be improved by focusing on correlations between the PPI score and DockQ and incorporating more discriminating physical features into PPI scoring functions. © 2024, CC BY.

We propose a simple non-supersymmetric lepton flavor model with A4 symmetry. The A4 group is a minimal one which includes triplet irreducible representation. We introduce three Higgs doublets which are assigned as triplet of the A4 symmetry. It is natural that there are three generations of the Higgs fields as same as the standard model fermions. We analyse the potential and we get the vacuum expectation values for the local minimum. In the vacuum expectation values, we obtain the charged lepton, Dirac neutrino, and right-handed Majorana neutrino mass matrices. By using type-I seesaw mechanism, we get the left-handed Majorana neutrino mass matrix. In the NuFIT 5.1 data, we predict the Dirac CP phase and the Majorana phases for the only inverted neutrino mass hierarchy. Especially, the Dirac CP phase and lepton mixing angle θ23 are strongly correlated. If the θ23 is more precise measured, the Dirac CP phase is more precise predicted, and vice versa. We also predict the effective mass for neutrino-less double beta decay mee 47.1 [meV] and the lightest neutrino mass m3 0.789-1.43 [meV]. It is testable for our model in the near future neutrino experiments. © 2022, CC0.

Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs), commonly known as drones, are increasingly used for various tasks. However, increased usage leads to more failures, posing risks to humans and the environment. This study identifies propeller imbalance faults in Brushless DC (BLDC) motors of UAVs. It compares two fault detection methodologies based on chaotic behavior: the alreadyknown CNN approach, and the SAC-DM+CNN approach. Both methods involve acquiring audio signals, generating spectrograms, and training a Convolutional Neural Network (CNN) model. Results show that the CNN approach achieves 98.18% accuracy, while the SAC-DM+CNN approach achieves 71.43% accuracy in classifying propeller balance faults.
