In an electronic voting system, authentication is used to ensure that the voter is legitimate without knowing his/her identity, while the vote collectors verify the data is received from a legitimate user without knowing the identity of the voter. One of the authentication schemes that fulfilled this requirement is called a deniable authentication scheme, where the receiver can prove the source of the message while another party cannot identify the source of the message. In 2013, Li-Takagi et al. proposed a deniable authentication scheme. However, Li-Takagi's scheme has weaknesses if the receiver fully cooperates with the third party. In this case, the third party can identify the source of a given message. In the proposed method, zero-knowledge proof is introduced to preserve the anonymity of the deniable authentication scheme when the receiver fully cooperates with the third party. Based on the analysis, the proposed scheme fulfills the requirement of the deniable authentication scheme when the receiver fully cooperates with the third party. However, the proposed scheme has additional computation costs for securing the shared secret key. Two attack schemes that are carried out on both Li-Takagi and the proposed scheme are the MITM attack and the impersonation attack. The probability of breaking the proposed scheme using an MITM attack is lower than when using Li-Takagi's scheme, but the probability of breaking the proposed scheme using an impersonation attack is the same as Li-Takagi's scheme. © 2021 ACM.

At the software development cycle, it is in the requirements analysis phase that most of the problems that can compromise the delivery time and the development and maintenance costs must be identified and resolved. In general, the requirements obtained in this phase have different relationships with each other. Some of these relationships, commonly called negative interactions, make difficult or impossible the progress of some activities of the development process. The detection of interactions between requirements is an important activity that may prevent some of these problems and avoid their propagation throughout the remainder activities. Most of the existent research in this area only focuses on the requirements phase, mainly in the identification of conflict and/or inconsistency interactions. This paper presents a semi-formal event-based approach to model and identify the interactions between requirements, investigating the interactions that influence the other phases of the software development process.

The launch of commercial off-the-shelf (COTS) software on the market requires careful planning, which incorporates a requirements prioritization process. Although there are numerous prioritization techniques, few satisfy quality criteria such as scalability, efficiency and ease of use. This research presents a survey of COTS software requirements prioritization to be potentially used by thousands of users. The HCV (Hierarchical Cumulative Voting) requirements prioritization technique was addressed and applied through a web questionnaire directly to potential users. At the end, 80 respondents sent the questionnaire and a score of requirements in ratio scale of measurement was obtained. It was found that the technique applied can respond positively to the needs and characteristics of Market-Driven Software Development, in similar situations to those described. © 2016 IEEE.

The Requirement Engineering is the first and one of the most critical phases of any software development methodology. This phase is very complex because of the imprecision of the process, the communication problems and the different viewpoints of the stakeholders. Requirements defined with imprecision or ambiguity hide and/or make difficult the discovery of the different interactions that could exist between requirements. These requirements are considered interdependent, as one requirement depends on or affect others. The identification of the interactions between the requirements allows understanding and acting on the impact of these interactions in the subsequent stages of the software development process. There are several methods for requirements specification. However, most of them don't show explicitly these interactions. In this paper, we present an approach that allows the specification, identification and revealing the different interactions between requirements, using a semi-formal method based on events. The events are considered because the flows of events describe the behavior of the system, through a set of interactions between objects.

Recently, secure information transmission is necessary such that no one can detect information sent via an open channel. In 2013, Chang and Clark proposed a method using lexical substitution and vertex coding for securing the information exchange between parties, such that no one can detect the exchanged information. However, the maximum payload capacity was still 2 bits. This work proposed a method for increasing the payload capacity of Chang's method by applying additional syntactical transformation instead of only lexical substitution and vertex coding. Based on the implementation, the payload resulted by the proposed method may increase minimum 2 bits, such that the minimum payload size is 4 bits, which is greater than Chang's method. © 2016 IEEE.

Macitentan (MACI) is an endothelial receptor antagonist used to treat pulmonary arterial hypertension (PAH). The pharmacokinetics and therapeutic efficacy of MACI are significantly influenced by its interaction with plasma proteins, especially bovine serum albumin (BSA). In this study, spectroscopic (fluorescence and UV–visible absorption spectroscopy), electrochemical, and computational techniques were applied to explore the binding properties and interaction mechanisms between MACI and BSA. The results indicated that the MACI quenched BSA fluorescence through a static mechanism. The interaction possessed a moderate binding affinity with Ka values ranging from 1.27 × 104 to 7.25 × 104 M−1 at different temperatures. Hydrophobic forces and hydrogen bonds were identified as critical factors in stabilizing the complex based on thermodynamic parameters. The local environment of tryptophan residues in BSA was found to be altered following the addition of MACI, as revealed by synchronous and three-dimensional fluorescence spectra. The spectroscopic studies were supported by electrochemical analyses, which indicated the formation of an electro-inactive complex between MACI and BSA. From the molecular docking experiments, the most likely binding site for MACI was found to be site I of BSA. Several hydrogen bonds and hydrophobic contacts were observed during the interaction of MACI with site I of BSA. These findings provided detailed insight to understand the binding properties of MACI to BSA, which may be beneficial for medical and pharmaceutical applications in the future. © 2025 Elsevier B.V.

Advances in genome sequencing technologies generate massive amounts of sequence data that are increasingly analyzed and shared through public repositories. On-demand infrastructure services on cloud computing platforms enable the processing of such large-scale genomic sequence data in distributed processing environments with a significant reduction in analysis time. However, parallel processing on cloud computing platforms presents many challenges to researchers, even skillful bioinformaticians. In particular, it is difficult to design a computing architecture optimized to reduce the cost of computing and disk storage as genomic data analysis pipelines often employ many heterogeneous tools with different resource requirements. To address these issues, we developed GenomeFlow, a tool for automated development of computing architecture and resource optimization on Google Cloud Platform, which allows users to process a large number of samples at minimal cost. We outline multiple use cases of GenomeFlow demonstrating its utility to significantly reduce computing time and cost associated with analyzing genomic and transcriptomic data from hundreds to tens of thousands of samples from several consortia. Here, we describe a step-by-step protocol on how to use GenomeFlow for a common genomic data processing task. We introduce this example protocol geared toward a bioinformatician with little experience in cloud computing. © 2025, CC BY.

Smart-parking solutions use sensors, cameras, and data analysis to improve parking efficiency and reduce traffic congestion. Computer vision-based methods have been used extensively in recent years to tackle the problem of parking lot management, but most of the works assume that the parking spots are manually labeled, impacting the cost and feasibility of deployment. To fill this gap, this work presents an automatic parking space detection method, which receives a sequence of images of a parking lot and returns a list of coordinates identifying the detected parking spaces. The proposed method employs instance segmentation to identify cars and, using vehicle occurrence, generate a heat map of parking spaces. The results using twelve different subsets from the PKLot and CNRPark-EXT parking lot datasets show that the method achieved an AP25 score up to 95.60% and AP50 score up to 79.90%. © 2023 IEEE.

Correct information is a vital resource during disasters. Without adequate information, response actions may be ineffective. What is the source of information of emergency management systems? Besides that originated from sensors, the emergency team and the public in general, a very relevant source is government data, such as demographic and geographic data, road maps, etc. The heterogeneity of information formats is a well-known problem that affects organizations and communities that want to access public data. Today, most public agencies provide access to their data, but the great majority is unreadable by automated mechanisms. Besides, most of them do not provide a dictionary meaning for the published content. A solution to this problem is of particular importance to emergency response organizations that need access to all information available to better respond to disasters and crisis. The linked open data (LOD) initiative allows the interconnection of data, using standards in the context of the semantic web approach. In ideal conditions, government agencies publish their public data, thus allowing the use of automated data concerned consumers, whether they are other government agencies or citizens. Efforts aimed to link government data are growing in several countries around the world. This talk presents the LOD concepts and describes an architecture that uses LOD in the design of an Emergency Management System. It describes a scheme for collecting available data from government agencies, such as departments of health, transport, works, that can supply information needs during an emergency response operation.

Organizations frequently need to recall past events that, for some reason, were not adequately documented when they occurred. The successful reconstitution of past events depends on several variables, such as how long ago the event occurred, and whether key people are still in the organization. It also depends on the supporting process. This paper examines three knowledge recall methods and compares them in a controlled experiment. A group storytelling approach is used in two of the methods, one of which is supported by technology. The results obtained favor the group approach, but the advantages of technology support are not conclusive. The paper also evaluates the benefits and the drawbacks of using a supporting technology. © Springer-Verlag Berlin Heidelberg 2005.
