Microservices and monolithic systems are two prevalent architectural approaches in software development. This study provides a complete review and analysis of the key components involved in design, development, and operation in software development. A systematic review of the literature was conducted according to the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses (PRISMA) guidelines. This review examined various sources debating monolithic systems vs microservices, highlighting their benefits, drawbacks, and implementation in enterprises. The paper addresses important research questions, aiming to further analyze this architectural approach. Findings show that microservices offer benefits such as scalability, flexibility, and independent deployment, while monolithic systems provide simplicity and ease of development. However, challenges related to network communication, data consistency, and operational complexity were also found with microservices. This research focuses on discussing the trade-offs and factors to consider when deciding between monolithic systems and microservices, which provides in-depth information for practitioners in decision-making for software development. This research aims to help readers understand the effects of using monolithic or microservice-based systems in software development. © 2023 IEEE.

The research was centered on adapting and assessing a new, unique game concept. The game onKeys presents a new approach and poses as an alternative method for improving typing skills. However, despite offering a promising avenue, the game still grapples with certain limitations. Utilizing the MDA Framework, the study seeks to integrate additional game components into onKeys and evaluate its effectiveness in improving typing skills. A paired T-test is used to assess the Pre-Test and Post-Test data. The System Usability Scale gathers subjective feedback about the game design’s usability. This study found that the onKeys game has little impact on players’ typing speed and accuracy, which may be attributed to a higher average typing speed, short period of playtime or a small sample size. However, upon reviewing the record and survey data, particularly the System Usability Score, it becomes evident that the game design still has potential. Further research can delve deeper into this game concept and design.

The exponential growth of the number of devices connected to the Internet and the use of IoT applications increases the amount of data exchange over public channels in low-cost and low-power embedded systems. Images are the most widely shared files, and standard symmetric algorithms such as the Advanced Encryption Standard (AES) are optimized for text but not image encryption. Consequently, new approaches like chaotic encryption have attracted researchers’ interest. Chaotic encryption schemes have been analyzed mostly from a software standpoint, but recent advancements in the field, through the use of discrete chaotic maps, enabled the development of simpler hardware implementations of ciphers with promising reductions in power and cost and increased performance. This work presents the Field-programmable Gate Array (FPGA) implementation of a simultaneous permutation-diffusion chaotic encryption scheme utilizing a discrete-space chaotic map. The FPGA implementation of the cipher is analyzed considering area, maximum frequency, and power consumption, and comparisons are made with the AES. The proposed algorithm has a satisfactory trade-off between area, power and performance, obtaining a peak throughput 59% higher than state-of-the-art symmetric ciphers in the literature. Thus, the proposed cipher shows that chaotic ciphers are viable for both high-performance and low-power embedded devices. Tests verified the security of the proposed cipher against statistical, differential, brute-force, and chosen plain-text attacks. © The Author(s), under exclusive licence to Springer science+Business Media, LLC, part of Springer Nature 2025.

We have been developing MEIMAT (MEiji Microprocessor Architecture Design Tools). The MEIMAT is essentially designed to be able to represent any instruction of various processors by the MEIMAT meta-instruction in two ways of semantic and functional expressions. In this paper, we have verified the RISC-V support to the MEIMAT, and have improved so that MEIMAT further supports RISC-V. First, we have verified whether the RISC-V instructions can be expressed by the MEIMAT semantic expression. It is also verified that the functional expression is automatically generated from the semantic instruction, and the corresponding correct circuit diagrams are generated in the MEIMAT instruction visualization tool. Then, we have newly developed a stage configuration mechanism to implement the RISC-V instructions. Because the RISC-V architecture is implemented by 4 or 5 processing stages in most actual processors. To develop further an easy-to-understand design tool, we have also introduced illustration windows for RISC-V specified hardware modules such as a register file, especially a status register in the instruction visualization tool. Finally, through these verifications and improvements, we have successfully confirmed that the 43 instructions in the RISCV (RV32I) instructions set of the RISC-V architecture can be converted into MEIMAT meta-instructions, and then they can be represented as circuit diagrams with the RISC-V stage configuration in the MEIMAT instruction visualization tool. © 2023 IEEE.

Nowadays, technology is getting more sophisticated. It can be seen with the emergence of Cloud Computing. One application of Cloud Computing is Cloud databases. In a cloud environment, there will be privacy and security issues. From the literature results, data leaks and attacks from outsiders are still found when using cloud databases. Cloud service providers already have the technology to maintain data privacy and security. Three procedures can be carried out to maintain data privacy and security: encryption, access control, and third-party audits. Variational quantum neural network with optimized ansatz for predicting malignant ventricular arrhythmias

Preventive strategies should be the utmost priority when dealing with diverse patients suffering from malignant ventricular arrhythmia (MVA) that can lead to sudden cardiac death (SCD). Electrocardiogram (ECG) data is commonly used as a predictor for MVA predictive models. In this study, all ECG signals from MIT-BIH databases were fragmented into five-minute durations with a frequency sampling of 128 Hz. To solve the absence of hybrid optimizations in Machine Learning (ML) models, a novel Variational Quantum Neural Network (VQNN) was invented. Empowered by deep learning capabilities and optimized quantum circuits design, VQNN achieved remarkable performances designated by an accuracy of up to 95.1%, a perfect 100% recall, and a 95.2% score of the area under the Receiver Operating Characteristic curve (AUC ROC) with Conjugate Gradient as an optimizer and EfficientSU2 as a quantum ansatz. Despite the susceptibility to quantum noise, this research settles a new trajectory of utilizing quantum variational algorithms to predict and expand its applicability for MVA cases.

One of the major tasks of natural language processing is sentiment analysis. The web is a source of unstructured and rich informa-tion with thousands of opinions and reviews. Individuals, businesses, and governments can all benefit from recognizing sentiment. As part of this study, we propose a deep learning-based approach for sentiment analysis on drug product review data obtained from the UCI machine learning repository. As an alternative to deep learning models, this architecture integrates glove word embedding with convolutional neural networks (CNN). Word2vec and GloVe word embedding schemes have been evaluated empirically for their predictive performance in CNN architectures. Based on a comparison of the deep learning architecture with RoBERTa, itcan be seen that BERT architecture outperforms both of them in training and validation. However, CNN models using Glove word embedding provided superior results in testing. © 2022 Elsevier B.V.. All rights reserved.

Conventionally, assessing people's personality done by psychology experts requires more time and effort. Hence automatic personality prediction is starting to get noticed by researchers. Nowadays, many people engage themselves in social media platforms, one of which is Twitter. This platform stores actions done in this media which reflect one's personality. This research focuses on improving the performance of personality prediction models based on machine learning algorithms, by augmenting the dataset using Easy Data Augmentation to overcome imbalance dataset, thereafter combining n-grams with POS-tag weighted by TF-IDF. Results show that this method outperforms other machine learning approaches and decreases bias, with a maximum of 72.62% of the best average accuracy and 72.72% best average Fl score using Support Vector Machine classifier. The second-best model is obtained by XGBoost and, lastly, Naive Bayes classifier. Overall, this study shows that data augmentation with the addition of POS-tag feature is evident in improving the performance of personality prediction models. However, larger data is needed. © 2022 IEEE.

News gives new insight and information from all over the world. News has many categories, such as politic, economy, science, and other common news categories. Every news will have their own category based on its content. The classification of news is usually done manually by inputting the category during the news posting. Some of the categories may be inputted incorrectly. The news classifier can be the solution for problem, but the news classifications out there are usually based on the news content. The classifier will receive the word vector inputs that are taken from the news content and try to classify it into one of certain categories. Unfortunately, news contents can be longer and harder to be processed rather than processing the news headline. The news headline is shorter and packs a decent information for the classifier to find out what category it is. Besides the news headline usage, the classifier also needs to be chosen correctly. In this paper, the SVC model will be tested using the news headline data to classify the news and compare with several other models, such as Linear Regression, Multinomial Naive Bayes, Decision Tree, and Random Forest. The common variables to be compared are the accuracy, recall, and precision to evaluate the SVC model. © 2022 IEEE.

Automatic essay scoring for discussion forum in online learning based on semantic and keyword similarities

Purpose: The authors constructed an automatic essay scoring (AES) model in a discussion forum where the result was compared with scores given by human evaluators. This research proposes essay scoring, which is conducted through two parameters, semantic and keyword similarities, using a SentenceTransformers pre-trained model that can construct the highest vector embedding. Combining these models is used to optimize the model with increasing accuracy. Design/methodology/approach: The development of the model in the study is divided into seven stages: (1) data collection, (2) pre-processing data, (3) selected pre-trained SentenceTransformers model, (4) semantic similarity (sentence pair), (5) keyword similarity, (6) calculate final score and (7) evaluating model. Findings: The multilingual paraphrase-multilingual-MiniLM-L12-v2 and distilbert-base-multilingual-cased-v1 models got the highest scores from comparisons of 11 pre-trained multilingual models of SentenceTransformers with Indonesian data (Dhini and Girsang, 2023). Both multilingual models were adopted in this study. A combination of two parameters is obtained by comparing the response of the keyword extraction responses with the rubric keywords. Based on the experimental results, proposing a combination can increase the evaluation results by 0.2. Originality/value: This study uses discussion forum data from the general biology course in online learning at the open university for the 2020.2 and 2021.2 semesters. Forum discussion ratings are still manual. In this survey, the authors created a model that automatically calculates the value of discussion forums, which are essays based on the lecturer's answers moreover rubrics. © 2023, Bachriah Fatwa Dhini, Abba Suganda Girsang, Unggul Utan Sufandi and Heny Kurniawati.
