Ultrafine grinding is a key size reduction (1, Peroxy radical and substitutional Ge center) were affected by the mechanical severity inherent to each mill. Peroxy radical was directly associated with the surface abrasion caused by prolonged impact and attrition inherent to planetary milling. This effect was not observed in jet mill products. In turn, the bulk [GeO4/Li]0 center was more sensitive to the high-energy particle–particle collision related to jet milling. The EPR results were discussed in relation to particle size and morphology and X-ray diffraction data. © 2025 Informa UK Limited, trading as Taylor & Francis Group.

Four coal samples from the Upper Kutai, South Sumatra, and Meulaboh basins were analyzed using chemical, petrographic, and thermogravimetric–mass spectrometry (TG-MS) methods to characterize their composition and thermal behavior during pyrolysis and gasification. Chemical and petrographic analyses revealed that the samples vary in rank, ranging from sub-bituminous C to high-volatile A bituminous coal (vitrinite reflectance, Rr, between 0.34% and 0.86%). Vitrinite is the predominant maceral, comprising 71.90% to 86.30% by volume. Thermal decomposition during both pyrolysis and gasification was found to be more strongly influenced by coal rank than by maceral composition. During pyrolysis, higher-rank coals exhibited lower thermal decomposition rates. CO₂ was the first gas released during thermal cracking, followed sequentially by CH4, H₂O, and H₂. The latter becoming the dominant gas in the later stages of pyrolysis. In CO₂-driven gasification, the sub-bituminous C coal exhibited a maximum char reactivity of 0.61 mg/min, compared to just 0.01 mg/min for the high-volatile A bituminous coal. Carbon monoxide (CO) was the primary syngas produced during the gasification process. © 2025 Taylor & Francis Group, LLC.

Thermally treated granite slurry waste as a mitigating agent for sisal fiber mineralization in fiber-cement composites

This study explores the use of thermally treated granite slurry waste to mitigate the mineralization of sisal fibers in fiber-cement composites. Granite waste was thermally treated at 600°C and 900°C, and the treated materials were analyzed using X-ray fluorescence (XRF), Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), and thermogravimetric analysis (TGA). Sisal fibers, alkali-treated with 1.7% NaOH, were incorporated into fiber-cement composites, where 15% and 30% of the cement was replaced by treated and untreated granite. Composites with 15% of granite treated at 600°C and 900°C showed improvements in compressive strength of up to 12% and 18%, respectively, compared to the control. The flexural strength increased by 10% with 15% granite treated at 900°C. However, the untreated granite at 30% replacement increased porosity by 25% and water absorption by 18%, negatively affecting the mechanical properties. Aging tests showed a 40% loss in compressive strength, while composites with 30% granite treated at 900°C maintained their flexural strength, making them more durable. These findings highlight the potential of thermally treated granite waste to enhance the sustainability and performance of fiber-cement composites in construction. © 2025 The Author(s). Fuel cell membranes can be used in various ways to achieve zero-emission transport and energy systems, which offer a promising way to power production due to their higher efficiency compared to the internal combustion engine and the eco-environment. Perfluoro sulfonic acid membranes used for proton exchange membranes (PEMs) have certain drawbacks, like higher fuel permeability and expense, lower mechanical and chemical durability, and proton conductivity under low humidity and above 80 °C temperature. Researchers have drawn their attention to the production of polymer electrolyte membranes with higher proton conductivity, thermal and chemical resilience, maximum power density, lower fuel permeability, and lower expense. For sustainable clean energy generation, a review covering the most useful features of advanced material-associated membranes would be of great benefit to all interested communities. This paper endeavors to explore several types of novel inorganic fillers and crosslinking agents, which have been incorporated into membrane matrices to design the desired properties for an advanced fuel cell system. Membrane parameters such as proton conductivity, the ability of H 2 transport, and the stability of the membrane are described. Research directions for developing fuel cell membranes are addressed based on several challenges suggested. The technological advancement of nanostructured materials for fuel cell applications is believed to significantly promote the future clean energy generation technology in practice.

The ethanol manufacturing plant located in Phanomsarakham district, Chachoengsao province east of Thailand. The plant requires to improve the process by replacing a new boiler with capacity for generating 30 tons per hour of saturated steam. The boiler selection process is determining the steam required for the process, then determine the fuels available and their usability after that compare different types of boiler and finish the process with boiler purchasing. There are four available fuels in the area where the case study plant located are bituminous coal, wood, fuel oil C, and LPG. Consider by compared the heating value, fuel required to consume by the boiler and reference of each. The most possibility of fuel for the case study plant is bituminous coal. © 2019 IEEE.

Thixoforming process is one method to improve the mechanical properties, especially in the manufacture of magnesium alloy components. This method is an alternative to lightweight structures and simultaneously efficient use of raw materials, fuel efficiency and environmental friendliness. The aim of this study is investigates the effect of ZnO nanoparticles addition on grain refinement of Mg-Al-Zn alloy by thixoforming. In these experiments, ZnO nanoparticles added from 0.1, 0.2, 0.3, 0.4 and 0.5 wt. % to Mg-Al-Zn alloy and thixoforming temperature set-up at 530°C. The results showed that the increasing of weight % ZnO nanoparticles cause decreasing grain size average of Mg-Al-Zn alloy both as-cast and thixoforming. On 0.5 wt. % ZnO addition was obtained grain refinement 39.87 μm (decreased 29.29%) and hardness 73.80 HB (increased 53.94%) compared to as-cast. © 2019 Trans Tech Publications Ltd, Switzerland.

In the past 2 years, we have been conducting routine hypocenter relocation in Indonesia. We compiled and conducted hypocenter relocation of ∼50.000 events from a magnitude of 1.4 to 8.5 recorded by 451 stations around and outside Indonesia region. We used local, regional, and teleseismic arrival time data from Indonesian Agency of Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics (BMKG) catalog from April 2009 to March 2018. We performed teleseismic double-difference relocation inversion using our previous study of 3D seismic velocity model beneath the Indonesian region with grid size 1° by 1° for inside Indonesia region and 1D global seismic velocity model from AK135 for outside Indonesia region. This method improved limitation from BMKG earthquake data catalog in which events were recorded from scattered seismic station array and insufficient azimuthal gap around Indonesia. Our results show that travel-time RMS residuals were greatly reduced compared to those of the BMKG catalog and the hypocenter location shows significant improvement, refining to the geological structure, especially trench and major faults. These hypocenter relocation results can be helpful for another seismic study in Indonesia region that required a precise hypocenter location e.g. body wave tomography and probability seismic hazard analysis. © 2019 IOP Publishing Ltd. A destructive earthquake with magnitude Mw 6.5 occurred in Ambon, Indonesia, on 26 September 2019. This earthquake generated an aftershock sequence. In this study, we determined the location of the aftershock sequence using a non-linear algorithm from the Non-Linear Location (NonLinLoc) program. The catalog and waveform data were collected using 11 seismographs from BMKG regional network located around the Maluku archipelago. The data was recorded between 26 September and 18 October 2019. We have manually picked the P-and-S wave phase by using Seisgram2K software. In our preliminary result, we have located about 1,300 events of aftershock sequence with about 8,500 phases of P and S waves. Overall, the location of the focus depth of the aftershock sequence is dominantly distributed in between 5 - 25 km. Approximately ∼70% of the distribution of aftershock locations show a North-South (N-S) oriented pattern from west Seram to Ambon Islands. Meanwhile, about ∼20% of the aftershock's locations are distributed around Ambon Island. Our ongoing and future study is to determine accurate hypocentre location derived from double-difference hypocenter relocation with waveform cross-correlation. © Published under licence by IOP Publishing Ltd.

The steelmaking industry in Brazil plays a vital role in the country's energy landscape, being a major electricity consumer. To remain globally competitive, the industry requires a strategic plan for efficient energy use, low environmental impact, and cost reduction. One promising approach is implementing thermoelectric power plants that utilize waste gases from steelmaking. This study analyzes the energy, exergy, environmental, and economic aspects of such a plant, considering green hydrogen addition achieved through water electrolysis using photovoltaic power. A computational model with Scilab is used, validated with data from a real thermal power plant. Computer simulations using different fuel mixtures show that adding up to 30% hydrogen to blast furnace gas achieves energy and exergy efficiency equivalent to the reference scenario (scenario zero) while reducing fuel costs. Effective energy management within organizations can lead to significant financial gains. The real operating model (scenario zero) exhibited a lower exergetic efficiency of 23.87%, highlighting the need for sustainable solutions. Embracing hydrogen-based technologies can pave the way for a greener, more energy-efficient future in Brazil. © 2023, The Authors. All rights reserved.
