Decision-guided chatbots and cognitive styles in interdisciplinary learning

Research on chatbots has distinct interdisciplinary features and can be generalized to learning in various fields. However, related research is still fragmented across disciplines and applications. This study aimed to develop a decision-guided chatbot for interdisciplinary learning. To investigate the effects of this learning model on learning achievements, learning motivation, collective efficacy, classroom engagement, satisfaction with the learning approach, and cognitive load of learners with different cognitive styles, this study was conducted in an environment education course in a junior high school in northern Taiwan. A total of 71 learners from two classes were recruited in this study;the experimental group, a class of 35 learners, adopted a decision-guided chatbot for learning, while the control group, a class of 36 learners, adopted conventional technology-assisted learning. The results showed that the experimental group significantly outperformed the control group on learning achievements, extrinsic motivation, collective efficacy, cognitive engagement, emotional engagement, and satisfaction with the learning approach. Moreover, the experimental group perceived lower mental efforts. In terms of cognitive styles, analytical learners had significantly higher learning achievements than intuitive learners. In the control group, the analytical learners had higher cognitive engagement than intuitive learners. In the experimental group, analytical learners had significantly lower mental load than intuitive learners. In addition, the analytical learners and intuitive learners in the experimental group respectively perceived higher mental load than those in the control group. © 2023 Elsevier Ltd

The discovery of efficient,selective,and stable electrocatalysts can be a key point to produce the largescale chemical fuels via electrochemical CO_(2) reduction(ECR).In this study,an earth-abundant and nontoxic ZnO-based electrocatalyst was developed for use in gas-diffusion electrodes(GDE),and the effect of nitrogen(N)doping on the ECR activity of ZnO electrocatalysts was ***,a ZnO nanosheet was prepared via the hydrothermal method,and nitridation was performed at different times to control the N-doping *** an increase in the N-doping content,the morphological properties of the nanosheet changed significantly,namely,the 2D nanosheets transformed into irregularly shaped ***,the ECR performance of Zn O electrocatalysts with different N-doping content was assessed in 1.0 M KHCO_(3) electrolyte using a gas-diffusion electrode-based ECR *** the ECR activity increased after a small amount of N doping,it decreased for higher N doping *** them,the N:ZnO-1 h electrocatalysts showed the best CO selectivity,with a faradaic efficiency(FE_(CO))of 92.7%at-0.73 V *** hydrogen electrode(RHE),which was greater than that of an undoped Zn O electrocatalyst(FE_(CO)of 63.4%at-0.78 V_(RHE)).Also,the N:ZnO-1 h electrocatalyst exhibited outstanding durability for 16 h,with a partial current density of-92.1 mA cm^(-2).This improvement of N:ZnO-1 h electrocatalyst can be explained by density functional theory calculations,demonstrating that this improvement of N:ZnO-1 h electrocatalyst comes from(ⅰ)the optimized active sites lowering the free energy barrier for the rate-determining step(RDS),and(ⅱ)the modification of electronic structure enhancing the electron transfer rate by N doping.

In a basketball game, players must act appropriately according to the position and movement of the player. This needs to be learned through team practice. Therefore, if we can build an environment that allows even one person to practice as a team, the efficiency of practice can be greatly improved. It is effective to use virtual reality (VR) technology to realize team practice alone. This paper proposes a VR-based basketball team practice learning system that provides VR environments similar to the actual team practice environments by arranging players in a virtual space. Focusing on zone defense practice, which is said to be difficult to learn even in team practice, we propose a practice system for orthodox 3-2 zone tactics. In addition, because the distance between the player and the surrounding VR player is important for this system, this paper presents the evaluation result of the 3D virtualization accuracy measured by the experiment. © 2022 IEEE.

This paper describes the implementation and evaluation of an RC polyphase filter (RCPF) and circuitry for measuring its frequency characteristics. The integrated circuit is fabricated on a 0.6 µm CMOS process and its supply voltage is 5 V. The integrated circuit includes a filter under test (FUT), a four-phase square wave generator, several analog switches and differential amplifiers to amplify the high-impedance signals of the RCPF. This FUT is a third-order complex RCPF whose passband is 8 − 40 MHz. This paper describes the design of these circuits in detail. This integrated circuit can select two measurement methods by means of external control signals. The first method uses a four-phase square wave. The frequency characteristics are measured by using an on-chip four-phase square wave generator driven by an external clock generator and by a spectrum analyzer tuned to the fundamental frequency. The second method uses an external network analyzer. Furthermore, this integrated circuit is equipped with a calibration circuit to measure the frequency characteristics of the circuitry except FUT by passing through the input / output signals of the FUT. As a result, the frequency characteristics of the FUT itself can be accurately measured. The effectiveness is confirmed through evaluation of the fabricated integrated circuit. © 2025 The Institute of Electrical Engineers of Japan.

Effects of a graphic organizer-based two-tier test approach on students’ learning achievement and behaviors in spherical video-based virtual learning contexts

Situating learners in a context relevant to scientific phenomena enables them to acquire knowledge through experience, reflection, conceptualization, and practice, which is an important learning mode in science education. However, learners generally do not have opportunities to experience many scientific phenomena in the real world. Therefore, virtual learning environments (VLE) are becoming a frequently adopted technology to provide authentic learning contexts. In particular, spherical video-based learning environments (SVLE), which are a low-tech form of VLE, have attracted the attention of school teachers and educational technology researchers. Additionally, effective assessment methods, such as the two-tier-test, have been adopted to examine learners' performance during the virtual learning process. On the other hand, researchers have pointed out that lack of effective learning strategies may decrease the learning effects in a virtual learning context. Hence, this study integrated a graphic organizer into a two-tier test-based learning mode, in which the first-tier questions were declarative items with a short answer (e.g., the questions of where, what, and when), whereas the second-tier questions were more in-depth, deeper causal-type questions (e.g., the questions of why and how), in the contexts of SVLE. To verify the effectiveness of this learning approach, a graphic organizer-based two-tier test SVLE was developed;moreover, a quasi-experimental design was conducted in the "Mysteries of the Earth" unit of the sixth graders' natural science course. A total of 41 sixth graders from two classes, with an average age of 12, were recruited in this experiment. One class was assigned to be the experimental group adopting the graphic organizer-based two-tier test SVLE (GT-SVLE), while the other was the control group adopting the conventional two-tier test-based SVLE (CT-SVLE). Magnesium rechargeable batteries are attracting attention as next-generation rechargeable batteries because of their resource abundance, cost, safety, and high electrical capacity per volume compared to conventional lithium-ion rechargeable batteries. Our joint research team focused not only on the electrochemically active magnesium composition of ribbon for the negative electrode materials of magnesium rechargeable batteries but also on the production process, focused on the single roll type liquid quenching and rapid solidification method, which can be produced at a lower cost. In this study, the optimal processing conditions were examined by comparing CAE analysis with ribbon actually manufactured, with the aim of further improving manufacturing conditions using the same method, such as length discontinuities, thickness, and surface properties of ribbon. We specifically various process parameters such as injection pressure and roll peripheral speed for evaluation. As a result, several linear cracks were observed on the surface of the ribbon as the peripheral speed increased and as the Gap became wider, and the surface properties tended to deteriorate. Also, It was found that the dominant factor in the length of the ribbon was the peripheral speed. As the peripheral speed increased, the length of the ribbon tended to increase. © 2023 Japan Institute of Light Metals. All rights reserved.

International publication trends in Lean Agile Management research: a bibliometric analysis

Challenged by complex problems and the speed of technological, social, and environmental change, the joint approach of Lean Management and the Agile Mindset has been explored in business as a management model. This paper aimed to carry out a bibliometric analysis of Lean Agile Management, pointing out trends in scientific research. To this end, an exploratory and descriptive study was developed, with a quantitative approach and based on secondary data from the Web of science and Scopus, between 1994 and 2022. Bibliometric indicators pointed to 1808 different papers in 897 sources, with 18 citations per paper, and higher scientific productivity of U.S. (276), India (221), and UK (191), with production peaks in 2018 and 2021, suggesting the diffusion and contemporaneity of the research topic. The laws of bibliometrics were not met for this research subject, and dense networks of collaboration and co-citation among researchers were identified, mainly in four application domains, including supply chain, manufacturing, sustainability, and software development as corroborated by the word network.

Delayed Matching to Sample by Adolescents With and Without Intellectual Disabilities: Memory and Intellectual Disability

This study investigated the effect of different delay intervals, in identity and arbitrary conditional discrimination tasks with unfamiliar stimuli on adolescents with and without intellectual disabilities and described their problem-solving strategies. The procedure consisted of pretraining, identity training, and arbitrary relations through a matching-to-sample (MTS) task and delayed matching-to-sample (DMTS) tests (0, 2, 4, 6, and 8 s). The results showed that all participants learned identity and arbitrary MTS relations, although two of them required additional procedures. In the DMTS tests, results showed that increasing delays led to a more accentuated decrease in participants’ performances for those with intellectual disabilities, and that performance was worse for arbitrary relations than for identity conditional relations. Naming the stimuli was the main strategy used to complete the tasks. Overall, all participants without intellectual disabilities reported the strategies used, and participants with intellectual disabilities were not able to report the strategy or needed specific questions to describe it. © 2023, Associação Brasileira de Psicologia.

As a compulsory approach in shaping pre-service teachers for Technological Pedagogical Content Knowledge (TPACK), microteaching is either essential and challenging. During the COVID-19 pandemic, the shift from offline to the online microteaching course had occurred. This major shift drives the change of planning science lessons. Our research examined how pre-service science teachers designed and reflected their planning on a 30-minute microteaching unit. The participants of our study were four groups of pre-service science teachers that consisted of five students. The participants were pre-service science teachers from two national universities in Indonesia that were chosen by purposive sampling. The data was collected through the lesson plan, self-reflection to the lesson plan, and group discussion. We conducted both qualitative and quantitative analysis on research data for content analysis. The qualitative analysis dealt with the themes and patterns of the theme, while quantitative analysis dealt with the duration and frequency of the theme. Based on the analysis, the single domains such as CK, PK, TK were shown in the lesson plan. However, the complex domain of TPACK was rarely seen. The group discussions revealed that teacher educators need to become specific and explicit about which technology is being infused to support learning. It is significant to enhance the TPACK during planning in online microteaching classes and conduct further study of the implementation of this planning in the lesson. © 2021 Institute of Physics Publishing.
