The advent of Chat-GPT, an AI-driven technology, is reshaping various sectors, particularly higher education. This study, merging the Unified Theory of Acceptance and Use of technology (UTAUT) with the Protection Motivation Theory (PMT), explores the relationship between technology adoption and protection motivation in higher education, addressing the concept of "the (un)knowledgeable, the (un)skilled." Through Structural Equation Modeling, findings from Indonesian participants (N = 445), including students and lecturers, reveal that perceived benefits such as task efficiency, hedonic motivation, performance expectancy, and effort expectancy predominantly motivate Chat-GPT use. Risk perception leans more on perceived vulnerability than severity, with insignificant impact from response cost. Response efficacy and self-efficacy significantly determine intention. Insight from moderating effect of educational level suggest that doctoral-level users demonstrate increased Chat-GPT usage, and gender plays a role in response efficacy and task efficiency. Both educational level and gender actively influence users’ intentions and actual usage behavior. These insights guide educators, policymakers, and institutions in ethically integrating AI, managing evolving risk perceptions, and empowering users in the dynamic AI landscape of higher education. Policymakers (e.g., university boards) are urged to dexterity an ethical framework and authorize in user efficacy to ensure equitable access and benefits from Chat-GPT in education. © 2024 Taylor & Francis Group, LLC.

Increased awareness of decarbonization and high fuel prices have induced a need for a wider deployment of alternative energy sources. Battery-powered electric trucks using an electrified road system offer a promising solution. This paper aims to evaluate the fuel consumption and environmental benefits of a 6 km road in Laem Chabang Port, Thailand, with a prototype system based on conductive charging from below. Battery capacity penetrations were designed for 1258 trucks traveling on weekdays. The annual electricity demand reached 1.608 TWh, and the flexible demand reached 1.65 TWh. The input was Thailand’s standard electricity, with one 50 kVA power substation per 0.0016 km2 and a 22 kV/400–230 V voltage system. Penetration required a capacity of 525 kWh. The findings indicate that fuel consumption was 592.43 TWh, and CO2 emissions were 51.63 MtCO2 annually. The electrified road system was evaluated with time series, fixed-effect, and tobit regressions. The time series analysis revealed that CO2 emissions would be nearly zero by 2060, with an annual 4% increase in Laem Chabang’s gross domestic product. A fixed-effect analysis signified the findings with Thailand’s recent potential, whereas the tobit regression represented the influence of possible changes. These regressions demonstrated that variations in revenue, oil resources, openness to the sea, and political stability significantly affected CO2 emissions, although there was no change in the implementation of the electrified road system. © 2024 by Begell House, Inc.

Efficient production planning requires well-structured models compatible with metaheuristic and other optimization techniques. This study compares three established metaheuristic methods - sanitized-teaching-learning-based optimization (s-TLBO), Particle Swarm Optimization (PSO), and Differential Evolution (DE) with a termination criterion of equal number of functional evaluations - for profit-maximizing production planning. The focus is on a single-level problem involving complex constraints, non-linear costs, budget and raw material limitations. The paper presents two solution strategies: a penalty-based and a correction-based approach. Analyzing 300 unique instances of the problem reveals that s-TLBO implemented with correction-based approach consistently outperforms the other methods in devising optimal production plans for two Saudi Arabian petrochemical industries with 24 products, 54 processes, and three raw materials for plant 1 and two raw materials for plant 2. © 2024 IEEE.

To enhance production planning efficiency, it's crucial to have well-structured models that align with metaheuristic and other optimization techniques. This research conducts a comparative analysis of three unique metaheuristic methods: sanitized-teaching-learning-based optimization (sTLBO), Particle Swarm Optimization (PSO), and Differential Evolution (DE) with a termination criterion of equal number of functional evaluations. The primary focus lies on profit-maximizing production planning within a single-level framework, encompassing intricate domain constraints, nonlinear costs, budget limitations and raw material constraints. The paper introduces three correction-based solution approaches. Upon evaluating 300 distinct instances of the problem, the study reveals that s-TLBO integrated with correction-based approach 1 and 3 consistently outperforms the other methods when it comes to devising optimal production plans for a Saudi Arabian petrochemical industry. This industry scenario involves 24 products, 54 processes, and three raw materials. © 2024 IEEE.

Since the emergence of Pokémon Go in 2016, the world has been introduced to Augmented Reality (AR) games. Many IT companies have begun developing augmented reality (AR) games due to the great commercial potential in this industry. Certain products may have managed to remain viable in the market, while others were forced to close due to one or two factors. Since the emergence of Pokémon Go, no other game has managed to surpass its unprecedented success. The company responsible for developing Pokémon Go has decided to shut down one of their games due to a lack of consumer interest. The technology of augmented reality (AR) is consistently associated with the concept of immersion. Immersion is a key aspect of the game that allows users to deeply engage and feel fully involved in the experience. This study will employ a quantitative methodology, utilising a questionnaire that will be distributed to and completed by those who have engaged in augmented reality (AR) games. The data will be analysed using Smart PLS to examine the impact of user experience on immersion, which in turn influences intention. After gathering over 200 participants by spreading google form questionnaires and doing data analysis, the findings indicate that only a few aspects of user experience, namely Brand Experience and User Need Experience, have an impact on reasons. Niantic, the developer of Pokémon Go, was unable to replicate their success with a similar augmented reality game called Harry Potter: Wizards Unite. The initial release occurred on June 21, 2019, and the shutdown took place on December 21, 2021. In the beginning, they shown a profound enthusiasm for the game but were unable to sustain it, much as Pokémon Go. As the Cape Canaveral Space Force Station and Kennedy Space Center increase their launch rate, any process that could assist in the automation of the currently-manual lightning forecast would be valuable. This work examines the possibility of machine-learning assistance with the daily lighting forecast which is produced by the 45th Weather Squadron. A dataset consisting of 34 lightning, pressure, temperature and windspeed measurements taken from 334 daily weather balloon (rawinsonde) launches in the timeframe 2012-2021 was examined. Models were created using recursive feature elimination on logistic regression and XGClassifier algorithms, as well as Bayesian and bandit optimization of neural network (NN) hyperparameters. The modeling process was repeated after eliminating 13 features related to windspeed. The best performing models on both datasets were the optimized NN models, with an F1 metric of 0.79 on the full dataset and 0.66 on the reduced dataset. For comparison, a model that predicted randomly achieved F1 = 0.47 on this dataset. The addition of 13 windspeed-related features more than doubled the complexity of the 21-feature no-wind model while increasing model performance by 13 percentage points. A notable inference from the statistical modeling is that the most important feature from both datasets was the Thompson convective index, which is related to temperature, dewpoint, relative humidity and lapse rate. © 2023 IEEE.

In the thin film transistor-liquid crystal display (TFT-LCD) industry, the competition is fierce, and the external failure cost is high. To improve the quality of released products, sampling inspection under outgoing quality control (OQC) is conducted before products are released. Owing to the variety and complexity of inspection items, the task must be carried out manually while realising automation is difficult. Traditional random sampling inspection is limited by sampling quantity, manpower, and material resources. To effectively improve acceptable quality levels, this paper proposes a quality predictive monitoring framework tailored to the production and inspection characteristics of the TFT-LCD industry. This framework includes real-time automatic quality monitoring based on an optimal machine learning prediction model with two-phase feature creation, and it also addresses OQC inspection capacity constraints. Experimental results show the prediction performance based on proposed model is better than the traditional random sampling process. In practice, superior average outgoing quality improves by more than 70% at the same sampling level. In addition, the features of the process can be further controlled and managed based on the prediction model to monitor the key parameters in real time and respond to abnormalities quickly, thereby further improving the quality of released products. © 2024 Informa UK Limited, trading as Taylor & Francis Group.

Urban services, such as water and energy resources, are usually consumed more in a tourism city, than in other city types. The water-energy nexus also contributes to the CO2 emissions from urban areas. The purpose of this research is to investigate the link between water distribution systems, electricity consumption, and energy-related CO2 emissions from water networks in Pattaya city, Thailand. These networks operate under the Provincial Waterworks Authority (PWA). The water distribution system was modeled in EPANET software, to simulate and examine the water supply capacity in the service pipes, to ensure that it meets the requirement set by PWA. Data were collected from PWA, in terms of the pressure and flow rate of the water supply and the amount of electricity consumption. The current water distribution system consists of 18 junctions, a with flow rate of 1,000 m3/hour and pressure at 45 m. The electricity consumption is 720 kWh/day and energy-related CO2 emissions are 419.11 kgCO2eq/day. The water distribution system was modeled and analyzed to find the optimum flow rate and pressure for the least electricity consumption. The results show that the optimum solution is the flow rate of 1,500 m3/hour and a pressure at 50 m. Consequently, the electricity consumption is 300 kWh/day, while CO2 emissions are reduced to 174.63 kgCO2eq/day. The findings from this study would benefit the PWA by reducing the electricity consumption and CO2 emissions equivalent to 109 MWh/year and 63.73 tCO2eq, respectively. © 2022 IEEE.

Local governments require new techniques and innovative approaches to assess initiatives to support the transition towards carbon neutrality. This paper presents a methodological approach for integrated building energy modeling and analysis of the impacts of energy conservation measures (ECMs) and energy-related CO2 emissions in urban areas. To accomplish this goal, the proposed methodology follows four steps: (1) developing a building stock model for urban databases using a geographic information system (GIS) and QGIS software;(2) creating a detailed archetype-based building stock model using OpenStudio and EnergyPlus;(3) carrying out a scenario analysis of possible ECMs and pathways to achieve carbon neutrality;and (4) analyzing energy savings and energy-related CO2 emissions. The developed methodology was applied to a tourism urban area, using Pattaya city as a case study. Based on the GIS building model, six archetypes were identified from all residential buildings, including hotels located in the study area. Prototypes of representative building energy models were simulated for a reference case with four ECMs. The results indicated that the building stock in the reference case used 497,669.05 TJ annually and emitted 80,470.32 ktC02eq. Of the four ECMs, a change to double glazing with low-E coating gave the highest energy savings and reductions in CO2 emissions. This measure led to energy savings of 9,342.82 TJ and emission reductions of 356.23 ktC02eq compared to the reference case. Local governments and stakeholders can benefit from the proposed methodological approach for decision making related to energy and carbon neutrality pathways. © 2022 IEEE.

In a computer supported cooperative work (CSCW), data consistency between collaborating users is a crucial issue. Based on the type of the application, ensuring data consistency can be a lengthy process that takes time and affects the system’s performance. In most 3D application, terrain data are massive due to its size. Exchanging this data may be expensive and may cause significant delay. In a real-time collaborative terrain editor, this issue becomes more significant due to terrain data exchange is consistently occurred between collaborating users. We present a solution to perform a conflict-free dynamic terrain data exchange in a real-time collaborative terrain editor. Our objective is to develop a method that able to ensure data consistency amongst collaborating peers in real-time manner. The main idea of our method is to split the terrain into smaller patches and synchronize the changes efficiently by only exchanging the modified patches. We applied our solution to a collaborative terrain editor application to test its performance in a real-time collaborative editing session. The tests were done in multiple scenarios, using different patch model, brush size (in the terrain editor), and connection setup between server and collaborating clients. The result shows that our protocol is capable to maintain data consistency between collaborating clients in a real-time terrain edition session. The delay is varied and highly depends on the data size and client-server environment setup. The overall test shows that it is possible to perform a collaborative terrain editing with an acceptable response time delay. In this paper, we present our proposed method, the implementation, and the result data from the test. © 2022 Slovene Society Informatika. All rights reserved.
