Consumers are motivated to utilize certain media in order to meet their needs. Drawing on the uses and gratification (U&G) perspective, this study aims to investigate how information seeking and entertainment factors influence consumer motivations to watch travel videos on YouTube. By investigating why consumers watch travel vlogs on YouTube, this study also investigates its emotional impact on customer engagement. Thus, it is assumed that when consumers are emotionally engaged, they will be more likely to visit destinations and share eWOM. This hypothesis was tested on 300 respondents who had experience traveling and distributing travel vlogs via social media. Using Smart-PLS 3.0 software, a structural equation modeling approach was used to test the research hypothesis. The results of hypothesis testing suggest that entertainment plays a significant role in forming emotional engagement, whereas information seeking plays a lesser role. From a U&G perspective, to travel vlogs on YouTube, it is evident that consumers who seek entertainment are the most emotionally engaged. Furthermore, the results also reveal that when consumers feel emotionally engaged with video travel vlogs on YouTube, they are strongly motivated to visit the destination and share eWOM through social media. As a result, it can be seen that emotional engagement is a crucial factor in the behavior of intent to visit and eWOM for destinations. A number of theoretical and practical implications are also discussed. © 2022 IEEE.

To enhance production planning efficiency, it’s crucial to have well-structured models that align with metaheuristic and other optimization techniques. This research conducts a comparative analysis of three unique metaheuristic methods: sanitized-teaching-learning-based optimization (sTLBO), Particle Swarm Optimization (PSO), and Differential Evolution (DE) with a termination criterion of equal number of functional evaluations. The primary focus lies on profit-maximizing production planning within a single-level framework, encompassing intricate domain constraints, nonlinear costs, budget limitations and raw material constraints. The paper introduces three correction-based solution approaches. Upon evaluating 300 distinct instances of the problem, the study reveals that s-TLBO integrated with correction-based approach 1 and 3 consistently outperforms the other methods when it comes to devising optimal production plans for a Saudi Arabian petrochemical industry. This industry scenario involves 24 products, 54 processes, and three raw materials.

Efficient production planning requires well-structured models compatible with metaheuristic and other optimization techniques. This study compares three established metaheuristic methods - sanitized-teaching-learning-based optimization (s-TLBO), Particle Swarm Optimization (PSO), and Differential Evolution (DE) with a termination criterion of equal number of functional evaluations - for profit-maximizing production planning. The focus is on a single-level problem involving complex constraints, non-linear costs, budget and raw material limitations. The paper presents two solution strategies: a penalty-based and a correction-based approach. Analyzing 300 unique instances of the problem reveals that s-TLBO implemented with correction-based approach consistently outperforms the other methods in devising optimal production plans for two Saudi Arabian petrochemical industries with 24 products, 54 processes, and three raw materials for plant 1 and two raw materials for plant 2.

Proficiency in foreign languages is crucial for effective global operations, and proficiency can be gained from training courses. In this work, we study the influence of various training courses by analyzing a 9,436-row dataset, including factors such as language, test timing, and their effect on an individual's language test performance. Both logistic regression algorithms and neural networks were employed to analyze the factors influencing language test scores. The key findings reveal that while the neural network model slightly outperformed the logistic regression model in terms of positive class recall (0.69 vs. 0.61), the logistic regression model is preferred due to its greater interpretability and generalizability. Notably, the logistic regression model identified higher initial reading scores and frequent testing as significant predictors of score improvement. Importantly, the logistic regression model achieved an accuracy of 0.78, which significantly surpasses the trivial model's accuracy of 0.51. This study contributes to the field of predictive analytics in language proficiency and provides actionable insights for future research and policy-making in defense language programs. The recent popularity of live streaming on social media has fascinated scholars' devotion. Though, prior studies have yet to satisfactorily elucidate how continuous watching intentions are enlightened regarding live streaming. This study aims to develop an asymmetrical framework for predicting consumers' watching intentions based on streamers' characteristics, such as beauty, humor, warmth, passion, and expertise. A total of 450 respondents who watched live streaming on TikTok participated in this study. This study attempts to examine propositions that specify models that predict high vs. low watching intentions based on the five streamers' characteristics using the fsQCA 3.0. The findings designate two configurations that signify both high vs. low watching intention. To achieve high watching intention, conditions of humor, warmth, passion, and expertise are required. Meanwhile, consumers will not continue to watch TikTok live streaming when the absence of beauty, humor, passion, and warmth is significant. This study signifies theoretical implication where a configurational model of live streaming watching intention based on streamers' characteristics was well-validated. At the same time, this study also provides marketers with practical guidelines on increasing watching intention using four configurations of streamers' characteristics. © 2023 IEEE.

eLearning has been utilized as a mode of instruction among medical students amidst the COVID-19 pandemic. The present study aimed to investigate the factors influencing the acceptance of eLearning platforms in medical education during the COVID-19 pandemic in the Philippines by employing the latent variables of UTAUT2, along with two additional latent variables gathered from various related literature. A sum of 360 medical students participated and answered an online survey that consists of 40 questions. A stepwise multiple linear regression was utilized and found that performance expectancy (PE), habit (HB), and instructor characteristics (IC), can successfully predict the actual use (AU) of medical students with a precision of 54.22%. A higher performance expectancy (PE), habit (HB), and instructor characteristics (IC) can enhance and promote the acceptance of medical eLearning platforms. This is the first study that has examined the acceptance of eLearning platforms among medical students in the Philippines during the COVID-19 pandemic. The outcomes of this research can serve as guidelines for the Commission on Higher Education of the Philippines for the enhancement of eLearning platforms. Although this study only utilized the latent variables of UTAUT2 along with two additional variables: Learning Value and Instructor Characteristics;the findings of this study would still hold significant value for promoting open innovation in eLearning platforms in medical fields worldwide. © 2024 Copyright is held by the owner/author(s). The quality of communication with a computer impacts how the designer performs during the design process. Today, Artificial Intelligence (AI) empowers the designer by expanding the solution space using the expertise from previous knowledge. However, the developments in AI-powered design tools mainly focus on visual and spatial enhancements. In the last decade, AI-powered design tools mostly experimented with image transformation models (GANs) to provide fast insights to designers using learned experiences, simulations, or datasets. The studies on the design process using verbal language with the help of AI are limited. Therefore, designers’ capacity to communicate with intelligent machines would lead us to envision the future of AI-powered design tools. In design practice, designers develop individual and contextual studies through digital tools. This study investigates the process of architectural visual generation and verbal communication to describe architectural images by architecture graduates with prior experience or no experience in prior with Midjourney. The research focuses on the designers’ semantic language during the design process with the AI-powered tool and analysis of the verbal part of the communication. The results of this study show that participants’ first impressions of the image and how they express their impressions through description do not correspond with how Midjourney interprets those descriptions. Furthermore, architects’ image generation process using the tool is nonlinear. As architects develop a deeper understanding of changing modes of interactions, they are more likely to benefit from AI-powered tools as collaborative entities. © 2023, The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Switzerland AG.

In 2023, we proposed a hypothetical knowledge management framework that incorporates science fiction prototyping (SFP) into the traditional roadmapping (RM) method to make RM more innovative and create a future beyond what we can currently imagine. Our main objective is to create a new organizational knowledge co-creation method for generating innovative ideas by incorporating humanistic factors utilizing SFP into RM. In the current article, we present the exploratory study we conducted to examine the hypothetical framework. Experimental workshops were held in November 2023 to compare the integrated method, in which SFP is applied to RM, with the original RM method. We followed a crossover design in the workshops and analyzed the results qualitatively and quantitatively following the perspectives proposed in the hypothetical framework. The qualitative analysis revealed successful integration regarding diverse and broader perspectives. The quantitative analysis utilizing Wilcoxon signed rank tests showed that the scores of the integrated method were significantly higher than those of RM for variables evaluating the effectiveness of the integration, while not for variables related to participants' feelings and satisfaction with the workshops, and sustainability. These findings indicate that the integration was successful in terms of its effectiveness as a method, while participants' subjective feelings toward the workshops were not different in both methods. As for sustainability, which requires a long-term perspective, no apparent differences were observed in these short-term workshops. © 2024 PICMET.

U.S. Department of Defense (DoD) personal property moves account for 15% of all domestic and international moves - accurate prediction of their cost could draw attention to outlier shipments and improve budget planning. In this work 136,140 shipments between 13 personal property shipment hubs from April 2022 through March 2023 with a total cost of $1.6B were analyzed. Shipment cost was predicted using recursive feature elimination on linear regression and XGBoost algorithms, as well as through neural network hyperparameter sweeps. Modeling was repeated after removing 28 features related to shipment hub location and branch of service to examine their influence on algorithm performance. The best model resulted from a neural network hyperparameter sweep on the simple 4-feature dataset. That model contained 2 hidden layers of 250 neurons, possessed a mean absolute error (MAE) of $2162 on the holdout dataset, and had an overfitting measure of 0.2%. This model's performance is a substantial improvement over a trivial mean-prediction model that possessed a MAE of $6856. Additionally, the model R2 = 0.87 compared favorably to existing work that achieved R2 = 0.73. Models that included 28 features related to shipment hub location and branch of service did not improve performance, showing that those features are insignificant in predicting shipment cost. All OLS regression and XGBoost models showed that the most influential features (in order) were weight, month of shipment, distance shipped, and days in transit. © 2023 IEEE.
