This paper proposes a Complex-Valued Neural Network (CVNN) for glucose sensing in milli-meter wave (mmWave). Based on the propagation characteristics of millimeter wave in glucose medium, we obtain the S21 parameter of glucose with the concentration range of 0-300mg/dL in the 60-80 GHz frequency band by High Frequency Structure Simulator (HFSS) simulations. Then we combine the sensing model with a neural network to detect and predict the glucose concentration relying on the learning ability of the neural network. In the prediction of the concentration of unknown samples, the absolute error between the predicted value and the true value is within 5mg/dL, which confirms the ability of the proposed CVNN model. © 2023 ACM.

Location based and geo-context aware services form the new fast growing domain of commercially successful ICT solutions. These services play the key role in IoT scenarios and development of smart spaces and proactive solutions. One of the most attractive application areas is e-Tourism. More people can afford travelling and over the last few decades we see continues growth of the tourist activity. At the same time we see huge increase of demand both in quantity and quality of tourist services. Many experts foresee that this growth cannot any longer be fulfilled by applying traditional approaches. Similarly to the change in tickets and hotel booking, it is expected that soon we will witness major transformation in the whole industry towards e-Tourism driven market, where roles of traditional service providers, e.g., tourist agents, guides, will disappear or seriously changed. Internet of Things (IoT) is an integral part of the Future Internet ecosystem that has major impact on development of eTourism services. IoT provides an infrastructure to uniquely identify and link physical objects with virtual representations. As a result any physical object can have virtual reflection in the service space. This gives an opportunity to replace actions on physical objects by operations on their virtual reflections, which is faster, cheaper and more comfortable for the user. In this paper we summarize our research in the field, share ideas of innovative e-Tourism services and present Geo2Tag LBS platform that allows easy and fast development of such services.

Vehicular Ad-hoc Networks (VANETs) represent a rapidly emerging, particularly challenging class of Mobile Ad-hoc Networks (MANETs). VANETs are expected to be massively deployed in upcoming vehicles, because their use can improve the safety of driving and makes new forms of inter-vehicle communications possible as well. Because they are characterized of high mobility and dynamic topology change, congestion control should be performed in such networks. In this paper, we analyze the TCP traffic in a VANET. We investigate and compare the Good put of DYMO Protocol for TCP Vegas and TCP New Reno considering also the congestion window, slow-start threshold and sequence number versus time. The simulation results show that in this VANET scenario, TCP New Reno performs better than TCP Vegas.

This study aims to apply data mining techniques with cluster analysis on stock data registered in LQ45 in Indonesia Stock Exchange. The cluster analysis used in this method is k-means algorithm, the data in this research is taken from Indonesia Stock Exchange. The cluster analysis in this study analyzed the characteristics of data volumes and stock values, while the results in this study were presented in the form of cluster members visually. Therefore, this cluster analysis in this research can be used for quick and efficient identifier for each member of LQ45 index cluster based on share value for each cluster and its volume. The identification results can be used by beginner-level investors that begun to be interested in stock investments to help make informed decisions about stock trading on desired cluster groups. © 2018 IEEE.

Background: Decades of steady improvements in life expectancy in Europe slowed down from around 2011, well before the COVID-19 pandemic, for reasons which remain disputed. We aimed to assess how changes in risk factors and cause-specific death rates in different European countries related to changes in life expectancy in those countries before and during the COVID-19 pandemic. Methods: We used data and methods from the Global Burden of Diseases, Injuries, and Risk Factors Study 2021 to compare changes in life expectancy at birth, causes of death, and population exposure to risk factors in 16 European Economic Area countries (Austria, Belgium, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Iceland, Ireland, Italy, Luxembourg, the Netherlands, Norway, Portugal, Spain, and Sweden) and the four UK nations (England, Northern Ireland, Scotland, and Wales) for three time periods: 1990–2011, 2011–19, and 2019–21. Changes in life expectancy and causes of death were estimated with an established life expectancy cause-specific decomposition method, and compared with summary exposure values of risk factors for the major causes of death influencing life expectancy. Findings: All countries showed mean annual improvements in life expectancy in both 1990–2011 (overall mean 0·23 years [95% uncertainty interval [UI] 0·23 to 0·24]) and 2011–19 (overall mean 0·15 years [0·13 to 0·16]). The rate of improvement was lower in 2011–19 than in 1990–2011 in all countries except for Norway, where the mean annual increase in life expectancy rose from 0·21 years (95% UI 0·20 to 0·22) in 1990–2011 to 0·23 years (0·21 to 0·26) in 2011–19 (difference of 0·03 years). In other countries, the difference in mean annual improvement between these periods ranged from –0·01 years in Iceland (0·19 years [95% UI 0·16 to 0·21] vs 0·18 years [0·09 to 0·26]), to –0·18 years in England (0·25 years [0·24 to 0·25] vs 0·07 years [0·06 to 0·08]). MANETs are attracting attention for their potential use in several fields such as collaborative computing and multimedia communications. MANET nodes cooperate in an autonomous way by forwarding packets to each-other. Considering mobility of the terminals, routes change dynamically so routing algorithms are very important for operation of MANETs. These protocols and other algorithms are tested by simulations, emulations and experiments. In simulations, by using random mobility models, all nodes move randomly and the distance between the nodes changes in an uncontrollable pattern. In this paper, we consider a case study when the source and destination nodes are static and we analyse the performance of a MANET simulation system, considering the proactive OLSR routing protocol. We evaluate the performance of MANET by evaluating packet delivery rate, number of hops and throughput of one-flow traffic.

In this paper, we deal with connectivity and coverage problem in Wireless Mesh Networks (WMNs). We used Friedman test to check if we can compare Genetic Algorithm (GA) and Simulated Annealing (SA). We found out that GA and SA have differences in their performance. Then, we used the implemented systems WMN-GA and WMN-SA to evaluate and compare the performance of the systems for different distributions of mesh clients in terms of Size of Giant Component (SGC) and Number of Covered Mesh Clients (NCMC). The simulation results show that for Uniform distribution the WMN-SA performs better than WMN-GA. For Normal distribution, for big radius of communication distance, the WMN-GA has the best performance. For Exponential distribution, the WMN-SA performs better than WMN-GA for all communication distances. For Weibull distribution, the WMN-SA has better performance than WMN-GA.

Wireless Mesh Networks (WMNs) are attracting a lot of attention from wireless network researchers. Node placement problems have been investigated for a long time in the optimization field due to numerous applications in location science. In this work, we evaluated WMN-SA system which is based on Simulated Annealing (SA) to find an optimal location assignment for mesh routers. As evaluation metrics, we used throughput, one-way delay, jitter, fairness index and residual energy. For simulations, we used ns-3 and Optimized Link State Routing (OLSR). We compare the performance of the optimized network topologies by sending multiple constant bit rate flows in the network. The simulation results show that the throughput is almost the same for both WMN architectures. The delay, jitter and fairness index of 32 mesh routers is higher than other number of mesh routers for I/B WMN architecture. For 16 mesh router, the remaining energy is higher than 24 and 32 mesh routers.

This Research Paper presents the evaluation of an instrument to identify the impact of motivation and engagement factors in undergraduate students in computing. Although researches indicate a direct impact of motivation and engagement on student performance and retention, few studies have been found that address which factors are relevant in this process. The instrument is a questionnaire based on the compilation of several works of the literature containing 48 items divided into 6 groups: personal and demographic data, general perception about motivation, perception about the university, student behavior, perception about program and perception about classes/teachers. The questionnaire evaluation is based on a case study with 112 undergraduate students in Software engineering. As a result, we found that the questionnaire can be considered reliable (Cronbach's alpha = .8904). Considering the validity of constructs, we found an acceptable degree of correlation between the most pair of items in each group (averaging 63%). We also found that the item-total correlation coefficient was only not adequate for one factor group, indicating satisfactory correlation for all other items. Finally, we found that the number of factors is coherent, but there are several items from different groups strongly correlated, indicating the need for a reorganization.
