Network management on multi-tenant container-based data center has critical impact on performance. Tenants encapsulate applications in containers abstracting away details on hosting infrastructures, and entrust data center management framework with the provisioning of network Quality-of-Service requirements. In this paper, we propose a network-aware multi-criteria container scheduler to jointly process containers and network requirements. We introduce a new Mixed Integer Linear programming formulation for network-aware scheduling encompassing both tenants and providers metrics. We describe two GPU-accelerated modules to address the complexity barrier of the problem and efficiently process scheduling requests. Our experiments show that our scheduling approach accounting for both network and containers outperforms traditional algorithms used by containers orchestrators. Copyright © 2019, The Authors. Integer Motion Estimation (IME) is one of the most costly steps in the video coding process, being responsible for 60% of the total encoding time. Two parameters are considered when calculating the redundancies (distortion) between video blocks: Sum of Absolute Differences (SAD) and motion vector cost (MV_(cost)). Partial Distortion Elimination (PDE) techniques may be used to optimize the calculation of the SAD unit itself, in order to avoid the computation of candidates that will certainly not be selected in the IME. This paper proposes an optimization in the distortion calculation by taking advantage of the PDE technique in SAD operation by including MVcost, in order to save even more cycles when compared to standard PDE usage, considering the High Efficiency Video Coding (HEVC) standard. We found out that the inclusion of MV_(cost) in the distortion cost achieves a quality increase of up to 1.28%. We compare three versions: adding MV_(cost) before/after SAD using a multiplexer, and before SAD with a Carry-Save Adder (CSA). The use of PDE including MV_(cost) before SAD calculation using a multiplexer achieves an average reduction of 17.5% in the energy consumption when compared to accumulating MV_(cost) after SAD. When using the CSA, we obtain an additional average reduction of 1.94%.

Blind music source separation has been a popular and active subject of research in both the music information retrieval and signal processing communities. To counter the lack of available multi-track data for supervised model training, a data augmentation method that creates artificial mixtures by combining tracks from different songs has been shown useful in recent works. Following this light, we examine further in this paper extended data augmentation methods that consider more sophisticated mixing settings employed in the modern music production routine, the relationship between the tracks to be combined, and factors of silence. As a case study, we consider the separation of violin and piano tracks in a violin piano ensemble, evaluating the performance in terms of common metrics, namely SDR, SIR, and SAR. In addition to examining the effectiveness of these new data augmentation methods, we also study the influence of the amount of training data. Our evaluation shows that the proposed mixing-specific data augmentation methods can help improve the performance of a deep learning-based model for source separation, especially in the case of small training data.

Radiological chest examinations like chest X-ray play a fundamental role in the fight against the outbreak of COVID-19 pneumonia, caused by the coronavirus strain SARSCov-2. This study aims to investigate classification models to differentiate chest X-ray images of COVID-19-based and typical pneumonia using hand-crafted radiomic features, understanding the distinctive radiographic features of COVID19. A total of 136 segmented chest X-rays from two public databases were used to train and evaluate the classification methods. The PyRadiomics library was used to extract first and second-order statistical texture features in the right (R), left (L), and in superior, middle and bottom lung zones for each lung side. For performing feature selection, data was split in training (80%) and test (20%) sets. Stratified K-folds (K=5) was used within the training dataset for cross-validation. The most relevant radiomic features were selected after measuring validation accuracy and relative feature importance. Support vector machines (SVM), random forest (RF), AdaBoost (AB), and logistic regression (LR) were analyzed as potential classifiers. The AB model was the best discriminant method between features related to COVID-19-based when compared to typical pneumonia, using a model of lung segmentation in six distinct lung zones (AUC =0.98). Our study shows a predominance of radiomic feature selection in the right lung, with a tendency to the upper lung zone.

We propose a novel method utilizing an objectness score for maintaining the locations and classes of objects detected from Mask R-CNN during mobile robot navigation. The objectness score is defined to measure how well the detector identifies the locations and classes of objects during navigation. Specifically, it is designed to increase when there is sufficient distance between a detected object and the camera. During the navigation process, we transform the locations of objects in 3D world coordinates into 2D image coordinates through an affine projection and decide whether to retain the classes of detected objects using the objectness score. We conducted experiments to determine how well the locations and classes of detected objects are maintained at various angles and positions. Experimental results showed that our approach is efficient and robust, regardless of changing angles and distances. Copyright © 2019, The Authors. All rights reserved.

This paper proposed a method which detects a political buzzer in social media, specifically Instagram. With Indonesia undergoing 2019 presidential election, a detection of buzzers that causes much trouble in maintaining information neutrality is seen as a needed. One of the many reasons is because those buzzers spread false news making the information gained by the use of social media to be not neutral and deliberately offends or attack those that they are not in favor of. Those buzzers share a similar characteristic, tendency, or even possess the same pattern. Grouping, classification, and detection method are used to counter this problem. This research gives a slight overview of what is happening in social media and a theory of how to deal with those problems. The argument is expected to help to identify buzzer in real life, thus helps in maintaining information neutrality along with the social media in Indonesia. © 2019 IEEE.

Cloud computing (CC) popularization unleashed the creation and competition of a large number of new companies providing CC services, the so called Cloud Providers (CPs). Thus, select the smallest CP set with the lowest price that are the most suitable to a given request (customer's needs, such as demanded resources and desired service quality) becomes a hard problem. Nonetheless, robust search methods like metaheuristics ones are used to solve it, for instance Evolutionary Algorithms (EAs). Performance Indicators (PIs) were used to quantify features of each CP used later to select them using a method. This paper proposes an improved hybrid method which uses in sequence: a deterministic, an EA and a local search method to find the most suitable possible CP set in the solution search space. This hybrid method was tested and has the highest assertiveness among all others methods developed to solve this problem, becoming a promising solution to a real application.

In a question & answer (Q& A) system, credible users provide answers of higher correctness. However, in a distributed social network based Q& A (SNQ& A) system, an asker does not know a k-hop answerer's credibility, thus making it difficult for the asker to assess the answer correctness. Therefore, a credibility-enabled distributed SNQ& A system is crucial for determining the correctness of the answers. To this end, we propose CRED, a credibility-enabled distributed SNQ& A system, which facilitates each user to assess the correctness of the provided answers. CRED utilizes subjective logic to build interestwise friend-to-friend credibility opinions under uncertainties. The developed opinions are then accumulated by CRED to get each user's aggregated credibility opinion, which may reflect the user's real credibility. CRED forwards a question to users with highest credibility beliefs in the question interest category. Our evaluation results show that, on average, CRED accomplishes higher success ratio, higher answer correctness, and lower answer uncertainty by 12.1%, 16.4%, and 22.2%, respectively, as compared to the best-performing baseline systems.

SG technology is becoming a reality, with several deployments appearing around the world. Despite bringing improvements, 5G technology may not adequately support many envisaged applications that will demand large amounts of network resources. Thus, studies on the next generation, the 6G, are highly desirable. Observing this landscape, in this paper, we present a seminal study about the potential usage of 6G to support such highly demanding applications. Towards this study, we model a 6G system at the simulation level and conduct a case study exploring an application of high-definition video monitoring, applying the concepts of drone-swarm based surveillance. This scenario demands the transmission of large amounts of video data through the network. The acquired results present evidence that 6G can address these high network traffic demands.

Machine learning methods have been widely employed in robotics over the years, and recent developments in machine learning have completely re-shaped problem-solving in the area. Indeed, if we consider multi-objective planning, these models' optimization and learning capabilities can derive more robust strategies. Inspired by the species natural selection mechanism, Evolutionary Algorithms (EA) are among the best known computational approaches available for this purpose. In this scenario, this work proposed an EA model developed to find the best travel trajectory for a quadcopter in the “Desafio Petrobras” challenge. In the challenge, a set of landing platforms that the robot has to visit are displaced in the 3D-space. To find the best trajectory possible, we optimize an EA over a low-level control that can take the quadcopter from point A to B. We vary our fitness function to support more complex decisions. The software-in-the-loop technique was applied for a simulated quadrotor in the Coppelia simulated environment. The proposed approach has shown the capability to generate short trajectories while considering variables like UAV dynamics and energy consumption.
