Comparison to RGB, HSV, LAB and YCbCr color model in a flower recognition has been conducted for 12 species from two families. Flower images were obtained from the ImageCLEF 2017 dataset. After segmenting the flower from its background using the k-means clustering method, the statistical parameters are extracted from each color model. These parameters including the minimum and maximum pixel value, and also mean and standard deviation. Then, the classifying result of SVM shows that the HSV color model performs the worst amongst the other investigated color model, which is around 30% using different kernel. While the other color model has the accuracy around 70% using linear and polynomial kernel. This result in line with the surface plot of their statistical characteristics.

Online social media users react to content in them based on context. Emotions or mood play a significant part of these reactions, which has filled these platforms with opinionated content. Different approaches and applications to make better use of this data are continuously being developed. However, due to the nature of the data, the variety of platforms, and dynamic online user behavior, there are still many issues to be dealt with. It remains a challenge to properly obtain a reliable emotional status from a user prior to posting a comment. This work introduces a methodology that explores semi-supervised multilingual emotion detection based on the overlap of Facebook reactions and textual data. With the resulting emotion detection system we evaluate the possibility of using emotions and user behavior features for the task of sarcasm detection. More than 1 million English and Chinese comments from over 62,000 public Facebook pages posts have been collected and processed, conducted experiments show acceptable performance metrics. Software-Defined Networking (SDN) paradigm has decoupled data and control planes on traditional networks. In this context, a logically-centralized controller, with full knowledge on network resources and traffic loads, executes routing algorithms to identify forwarding paths, while networking resources (switches and routers) just work on packet forwarding. This work contributes by executing and characterizing a well-know distributed application, NAS parallel benchmark, atop an SDN-based data center. A comparison with different flow routing algorithms is presented, highlighting that an application can reduce its runtime when applying a multi-path routing. © 2016 IEEE.

Linelike features in TeV γ rays constitute a “smoking gun” for TeV-scale particle dark matter and new physics. Probing the Galactic Center region with ground-based Cherenkov telescopes enables the search for TeV spectral features in immediate association with a dense dark matter reservoir at a sensitivity out of reach for satellite γ-ray detectors, and direct detection and collider experiments. We report on 223 hours of observations of the Galactic Center region with the MAGIC stereoscopic telescope system reaching γ-ray energies up to 100 TeV. We improved the sensitivity to spectral lines at high energies using large-zenith-angle observations and a novel background modeling method within a maximum-likelihood analysis in the energy domain. No linelike spectral feature is found in our analysis. Therefore, we constrain the cross section for dark matter annihilation into two photons to ⟨σv⟩≲5×10−28 cm3 s−1 at 1 TeV and ⟨σv⟩≲1×10−25 cm3 s−1 at 100 TeV, achieving the best limits to date for a dark matter mass above 20 TeV and a cuspy dark matter profile at the Galactic Center. Finally, we use the derived limits for both cuspy and cored dark matter profiles to constrain supersymmetric wino models.

The Traveling Salesman Problem (TSP) is extensively used to test new algorithms that tackle combinatorial optimiza-tion problems. Bee inspired algorithms are receiving a con-siderable attention from the Swarm Intelligence field. This paper presents the TSPoptBees, a bee inspired algorithm to solve the TSP. A vast discussion is made in regards to the parameter analysis of the proposed algorithm, showing trends on varying certain parameters and proposing default values for them. The quality is assessed using instances from the TSPLIB and the results show the algorithm is able to provide good quality solutions.

Sum of Absolute Differences (SAD) is an intensive time-consuming operation of state-of-art video encoders. It is used as a block matching metric inside Motion Estimation (ME) and also on mode decision in Intra Prediction. SAD hardware architectures employ an adder tree to accumulate the coefficients from absolute difference between two video blocks. Due to the simplicity, the SAD metric is the better choice when the video encoders project space is focused on power efficiency. In order to reduce the SAD power dissipation, this work proposes a new hybrid encoded adder operator. The power-efficient hybrid encoding representation groups m bits and uses gray encoding to potentially reduce the switching activity, both internally and the inputs of the arithmetic operators. The SAD architecture, using the proposed hybrid adder operator, was synthesized to 45 nm standard cell technology and compared in terms of power dissipation using real video sequences. Results show that 7.58% of total power is saved (on average) when compared with SAD architecture using the macro-function adder from the synthesis tool. Compared to SAD architecture using state-of-the-art hybrid adder, our architecture saves 12.97% on average power dissipation.

Clocking represents the manner in which companies register employee data;particularly, data related to entrances to and departures from the company. Being normally implemented with wireless cards or by hand, this procedure can implies on large queues, reducing the emloyee productivity, besides being sensitive to longer complications (when the employee forget to register the clocking, for example). In this context, we developed a model named ACID (Automatic Clocking and Idleness Detection) to bring benefits for both administrators and employees through the use of wireless sensors. Besides eliminating queues, it is possible to analyze those employees that are away from their own places for more than a particular threshold. In addition, the model is also pertinent to enhance decision support when promotions take place. We developed a prototype that was evaluated through simulation, taking into account the architectural plant and the employees behavior of five real Brazilian companies. The results reveals the benefits of using IDAC both at the owner (control and productivity) and employees (the clocking actions occurs automatically) levels. © 2016 IEEE.

As a result of rural and suburban migration to the cities, urban life has become a significant challenge for citizens and mayors, imposing a huge concern in the sustainable use of resources like energy, water, transportation and housing. Smart cities are the biggest bet to address these challenges efficiently through a real-time monitoring approach which aims to assist in intelligent planning and sustainable urban development. However, to accomplish this monitoring efficiently and to enable the sustainable use of resources, it is necessary an integration between citizens, city devices and the platform where the data is stored and processed. In this context, we are proposing the 3LES model (3 Levels of Energy Saving for Smart Cities), a model that combines data from citizens, city devices and nodes from the processing plataform to offer a multilevel energy saving proposal. 3LES must act transparently without affecting the quality of the services already offered in the city. This paper presents the components of management and monitoring of power consumption at various levels, as well as a model that monitors the energy consumption of elastic cloud applications. The results are promising, with a model that allows the estimation of the energy consumption of elastic applications based on CPU and memory traces with an average and median precision of 97.15% and 97.72%. In addition, we obtained a reduction of more than 90% in the energy spent in public lighting in the city of Rome when analyzing the citizens' location. © 2016 IEEE.

Background & Aims Magnetic resonance-based steatosis measurement of the liver has become the non-invasive gold standard; however very few diagnostic thresholds have been independently validated and none in children. This study was designed to validate diagnostic thresholds, assess repeatability and the relationship to histology of a proprietary MRI volumetric liver fat fraction (VLFF) method (HepaFat-Scan ® ) and magnetic resonance spectroscopy (MRS) proton density fat fraction (PDFF) method. Methods This cross-sectional study assesses the diagnostic accuracy of MRI-VLFF and MRS-PDFF of 50 children who had a clinically indicated liver biopsy. Twenty-five children were randomly selected for intra-examination repeatability. The positive pixel count (PPC) algorithm was used to quantify the area of fat vesicles in the histology. The area under the receiver operating characteristic curve (AUROC) was used to assess the diagnostic accuracy. Bland-Altman plots were used to compare the methods and examine the repeatability. Results The MRI-VLFF ranged from 0.3% to 35.4% and the MRS-PDFF ranged from 0.5% to 36.9%. Based on histopathological analysis, the diagnostic accuracy of MRI-VLFF for steatosis detection (grade 0 vs 1-3) showed an AUROC of 0.95 (95% confidence interval [CI]: 0.89-1.00), whereas MRI-PDFF classified grade 0 vs 1-3 showed an AUROC of 0.96 (95% CI: 0.91-1.00). The repeatability coefficients were 1.8 (±0.5) % for MRI-VLFF and 2.1 (±0.6) % for MRS-PDFF. There was no bias between MRI-VLFF and PPC steatosis. To allow direct comparison, MRS-PDFF was converted to MRS-VLFF. Small, but significant biases were measured between PPC steatosis and MRS-VLFF (−1.38%) and between MRI-VLFF and MRS-VLFF (−1.39%). Conclusions Both MRI-VLFF and MRS-PDFF accurately estimated hepatic steatosis in children with excellent agreement with the histological assessment.
