In the rapidly evolving field of Augmented Reality (AR), delivering real-time, immersive experiences places a significant demand on computational resources, particularly in the context of video-based Artificial Intelligence (AI) inference tasks. Some solutions explorate optimize the tasks using the potential of Mobile Edge Computing (MEC), in which MEC brings the advantages of reduced latency and network congestion, which are critical for AR systems. In this work, we designed a novel algorithm named AR-MEC Optimization for the distribution of AI inference tasks among edge servers while considering several factors including task complexity, server capacity, and network conditions. Our approach not only ensures low-latency responses but also improves overall system efficiency and the user's Quality of Experience (QoE). Experimental results demonstrate that our unified approach significantly outperforms traditional cloud-based methods in terms of response time and computational efficiency, thereby highlighting the potential of MEC-assisted AR systems for real-world applications. © 2023 University of Split, FESB.

The accumulation lipid from oleaginous microorganisms is recognized as a second generation fuel. Biooil is known to as intracellular product of oily yeast utilizing various carbon substrates and converting different quantities of lipids in the form of triacylglycerols. This second generation fuel can be used to make biodiesel via a transesterification process. This study investigated the morphological characteristics of eight strains of Thai oleaginous yeasts via microscopy and analyzed the fatty acid profiling of yeasts cultured in three carbon sources: glucose, sugar cane molasses and crude glycerol in order to estimate biodiesel properties. To approach this goal, batch fermentations were used to culture eight yeast strains, Rhodosporidium toruloides TISTR 5123, TISTR 5154, TISTR 5149, Yarrowia lipolytica TISTR 5054, TISTR 5151, TISTR 5621, Rhodotorula glutinis TISTR 5159 and Rhodotorula graminis TISTR 5124 for 96 h under 30°C at 250 rpm. Result revealed that eight yeast strains contained significant amounts of fatty acids and lipids and accumulated mainly palmitic acid (C16:0), stearic acid (C18:0), oleic acid (C 18:1) and linoleic acid (C18:2), and they are suitable for the production of biodiesel. Fatty acid productions and profiles indicated that these yeast strains can be potentially used as the triacylglycerols producers for biodiesel production. © 2020 The Authors, published by EDP sciences.

Diabetic retinopathy (DR) is a type of diabetes mellitus that attacks the retina of the eye. DR will cause patients to experience blindness slowly. Generally, DR can be detected by using a special instrument called an ophthalmoscope to view the inside of the eyeball. However, in conditions where there is a very small difference between the normal image and the DR image, computer-based assistance is needed for maximizing image reading value. In this research, a method of image quality improvement will be carried out which will then be integrated with a classification algorithm based on deep learning. The results of image improvement using Contrast Limited Adaptive Histogram Equalization (CLAHE) shows that the average accuracy of the method on several models is very competitive, 91% for the VGG16 model, 95% for InceptionV3, and 97% for EfficientNet compared to the results original image which only has an accuracy of 87% for VGG16 model, 90% for InceptionV3 model, and 95% for EfficientNet. However, in ResNet34 better accuracy is obtained in the original image with an accuracy of 95% while in the CLAHE image the accuracy value is only 84%. The results of this comprehensive evaluation and recommendation of famous backbone networks can be useful in the computer-Aided diagnosis of diabetic retinopathy. © 2022 Elsevier B.V.. The effect of back biasing on the performance of a planar tunnel field-effect transistor (TFET) implemented on a silicon-on-insulator substrate is investigated. It is found that reverse back biasing reduces the subthreshold swing SS and increases the range of drain current over which SS is less than ( k B T / q ) ln (10); hence, it is effective for improving the TFET on/off current ratio for low operating voltages (≤ 0.5 V).

Immersive learning has gained significant attention with the rising trend of spatial computing, particularly in the after-pandemic era. Numerous research has explored the potential of immersive learning in higher education, primarily on the educational sector. However, prior research has frequently focused too narrowly on the effects of technology and neglected to address the crucial element influencing successful immersive learning in higher education. This study seeks to pinpoint the crucial element contributing to the development of immersive learning experiences. The methodology uses a systematic literature review (SLR) from 2018 up to 2023 to investigate the critical factors of immersive Learning in Higher Education. From the 728 papers initially retrieved, 274 were considered potential candidates, and ultimately, 86 articles were selected based on their relevance to the research question. The results reveal that the critical factors include learning design, technology, immersion, engagement, interactivity, and usability. Academic interests will benefit from this SLR's consequences as institutions create models for designing suitable immersive learning, especially within the context of higher education. © 2023 IEEE.

Wafer bonding technology is applied to the GaN/quantum dots/GaN system, where CdSe/ZnS Quantum Dots serve as both the active layer and the binding layer. Photoluminescence is observed from quantum dots following wafer bonding at various temperatures under ultra high vacuum condition. Temperature dependences of bond strength and photoluminescence properties are characterized. Annealing at elevated temperature to form wafer bonds degrades photoluminescence intensity and slightly blue shifts the wavelength. Transmission Electron Microscopy is applied to study the physical properties of vacuum annealed QDs, in which agglomeration is observed. ©The Electrochemical Society.

This article examines the incorporation of the Shopping Assistance Automatic Suggestion (SAAS) model into Virtual Reality (VR) environments in order to improve the online shopping experience. The SAAS model employs sophisticated deep learning methods to offer customized product recommendations, which are conveyed by non-player characters (NPCs) via voice-based interactions. Our goal is to develop an interactive shopping experience that replicates real-life interactions by integrating AI-powered recommendations with immersive VR technology. We gather and standardize data from several open commerce databases, such as Amazon Product and Customer Reviews. The SAAS model, in conjunction with GPT-3, BERT, and T5, undergoes training and testing to evaluate its effectiveness across multiple criteria. The results demonstrate that the SAAS model surpasses other models in delivering contextually aware and pertinent recommendations. The integration process outlines the specific steps involved in capturing, processing, and transforming user interactions in virtual reality (VR) into vocal suggestions provided by non-player characters (NPCs). This strategy improves customization and utilizes the immersive features of virtual reality to effectively engage people. The results of our research establish a higher standard for e-commerce, with the goal of enhancing the user experience of online purchasing by making it more instinctive, engaging, and pleasurable. © 2024 by the authors.

Information technology is providing manufacturers with additional flexibility with regard to their supply chain network choices. Our research studies supply chain network organization structures categorized by the organic and mechanistic management control structures. The structural impacts on cost and fill rate performance are studied in two-echelon and two-supply-chain network organization models under different market coordination conditions using system dynamic simulations. Our results show significant effects of demand and network structural factors, and their interactions, on these measures. As demand becomes dynamic, the cooperative interaction model, where supply chains cooperate to satisfy customer demand, is found to have better system performance than the competitive supply chain model. The analysis also suggests that increasing the responsiveness at the downstream plant is particularly important to the overall system performance improvement.
