In this paper we present a platform called VhCVE, in which relevant issues related to Collaborative Virtual Environments applications are integrated. The main goal is to provide a framework where participants can interact with others by voice and chat. Also, manipulation tools such as a mouse using computer Vision and Physics are included, as well as rendering techniques (e.g. light sources, shadows and weather effects). In addition, avatar animation in terms of face and body motion are provided. Results indicate that our platform can be used as a interactive virtual world to help communication among people.

Resource Allocation of Federated Learning for the Metaverse with Mobile Augmented Reality

The Metaverse has received much attention recently. Metaverse applications via mobile augmented reality (MAR) require rapid and accurate object detection to mix digital data with the real world. Federated learning (FL) is an intriguing distributed machine learning approach due to its privacy-preserving characteristics. Due to privacy concerns and the limited computation resources on mobile devices, we incorporate FL into MAR systems of the Metaverse to train a model cooperatively. Besides, to balance the trade-off between energy, execution latency and model accuracy, thereby accommodating different demands and application scenarios, we formulate an optimization problem to minimize a weighted combination of total energy consumption, completion time and model accuracy. Through decomposing the non-convex optimization problem into two subproblems, we devise a resource allocation algorithm to determine the bandwidth allocation, transmission power, CPU frequency and video frame resolution for each participating device. We further present the convergence analysis and computational complexity of the proposed algorithm. Numerical results show that our proposed algorithm has better performance (in terms of energy consumption, completion time and model accuracy) under different weight parameters compared to existing benchmarks. © 2022, CC BY.

The existence of pulsating stars in eclipsing binaries has been known for *** types of objects are extremely valuable systems for astronomical studies as they exhibit both eclipse and pulsation *** eclipsing binaries are the only way to directly measure the mass and radius of stars with a good accuracy(≤1%),while the pulsations are a unique way to probe the stellar interior via oscillation *** are different types of pulsating stars existing in eclipsing *** of them is theδScuti ***,the known number ofδScuti stars in eclipsing binaries is around 90 according to the latest catalog of these *** increasing number of these kinds of variables is important to understand the stellar structure,evolution and the effect of binarity on the ***,in this study,we focus on discovering new eclipsing binaries withδScuti component(s).We searched within the northern Transiting Exoplanet Survey Satellite(TESS)field with a visual inspection by following some criteria such as light curve shape,the existence of pulsation like variations in the out-of-eclipse light curve and the T_(eff) values of the *** a result of these criteria,we discovered some *** orbital variations were first removed from the TESS light curves and frequency analysis was performed on the *** luminosity,and absolute and bolometric magnitudes of the targets were calculated as *** find how much of these parameters represent the primary(more luminous)binary component,we also computed the flux density ratio of the systems by utilizing the area of the *** addition,the positions of the systems in the H-R diagram were examined considering the flux density *** a consequence of the investigation,we defined 38 candidateδScuti stars and also one Maia variable in eclipsing binary systems.

This work considers an interval extension of fuzzy implications based on the best interval representation of usual fuzzy implications. The related properties of fuzzy implications can be naturally extended and the interval representation meets the optimality property and preserves the behaviors of the implications in the interval endpoints. Our discussion mainly focuses on the best interval representation of three important classes of fuzzy implications: S-implications, R-implications and QL-implications. We analyze sufficient and necessary conditions for these three classes of implications as inclusion-monotonic functions in both arguments satisfying the minimal properties of fuzzy implications.

The development of vehicle-to-vehicle (V2V) communication techniques have proliferated collaborative vehicle localization (CVL) approaches to estimate the absolute positions of the nearby vehicles. In general, the information of the nearby vehicles in terms of geometry information and historical states are utilized to increase localization accuracy. However, the geometry information can be unknown and the historical states of the nearby vehicles cannot be obtained under certain circumstances. In this paper, a Bayesian-based localization approach, named as BayesNVL is proposed to estimate the absolute positions of the nearby vehicles from an ego vehicle through incorporating the GPS measurements and measured relative positions. Different from the existing work, our pro-posed approach can be applied to the real driving scenarios without the geometry information of road network and the historical states of the nearby vehicles. We evaluate the proposed approach in terms of localization accuracy and efficiency by using a real dataset containing the trajectories of vehicles. The experimental results show that our proposed approach is able to achieve higher localization accuracy compared with the existing approaches and acceptable localization efficiency.

It is estimated that global climate change and regional land use and cover changes in the Amazon region will contribute to the spread of vector-borne diseases such as bartonellosis and leishmaniasis. The large geographical distances and the sparsity of human settlements in the region pose challenges to the collaboration among health professionals whose goals range from diagnosing diseases to monitoring their spread. This paper presents work in progress on a system to support the tasks of local healthcare professionals and enabling collection, compilation, sharing and visualisation of data for purposes of epidemiological research and disease surveillance in remote regions.

Deadline-constrained Multi-resource Task Mapping and Allocation for Edge-Cloud Systems

In an edge-cloud system, mobile devices can offload their computation intensive tasks to an edge or cloud server to guarantee the quality of service or satisfy task deadline requirements. However, it is challenging to determine where tasks should be offloaded and processed, and how much network and computation resources should be allocated to them, such that a system with limited resources can obtain a maximum profit while meeting the deadlines. A key challenge in this problem is that the network and computation resources could be allocated on different servers, since the server to which a task is offloaded (e.g., a server with an access point) may be different from the server on which the task is eventually processed. To address this challenge, we first formulate the task mapping and resource allocation problem as a non-convex Mixed-Integer Nonlinear Programming (MINLP) problem, known as NP-hard. We then propose a zero-slack based greedy algorithm (ZSG) and a linear discretization method (LDM) to solve this MINLP problem. Experiment results with various synthetic tasksets show that ZSG has an average of 2.98% worse performance than LDM with a minimum unit of 5 but has an average of 6.88% better performance than LDM with a minimum unit of 15. © 2022, CC BY-NC-ND.

Learning enabled components (LECs), while critical for decision making in autonomous vehicles (AVs), are likely to make incorrect decisions when presented with samples outside of their training distributions. Out-of-distribution (OOD) detectors have been proposed to detect such samples, thereby acting as a safety monitor, however, both OOD detectors and LECs require heavy utilization of embedded hardware typically found in AVs. For both components, there is a tradeoff between non-functional and functional performance, and both impact a vehicle's safety. For instance, giving an OOD detector a longer response time can increase its accuracy at the expense of the LEC. We consider an LEC with binary output like an autonomous emergency braking system (AEBS) and use risk, the combination of severity and occurrence of a failure, to model the effect of both components' design parameters on each other's functional and non-functional performance, as well as their impact on system safety. We formulate a co-design methodology that uses this risk model to find the design parameters for an OOD detector and LEC that decrease risk below that of the baseline system and demonstrate it on a vision based AEBS. Using our methodology, we achieve a 42.3% risk reduction while maintaining equivalent resource utilization.

Event cameras offer many advantages over standard cameras due to their distinctive principle of operation: low power, low latency, high temporal resolution and high dynamic range. Nonetheless, the success of many downstream visual applications also hinges on an efficient and effective scene representation, where Neural Radiance Field (NeRF) is seen as the leading candidate. Such promise and potential of event cameras and NeRF inspired recent works to investigate on the reconstruction of NeRF from moving event cameras. However, these works are mainly limited in terms of the dependence on dense and low-noise event streams, as well as generalization to arbitrary contrast threshold values and camera speed profiles. In this work, we propose Robust e-NeRF, a novel method to directly and robustly reconstruct NeRFs from moving event cameras under various real-world conditions, especially from sparse and noisy events generated under non-uniform motion. It consists of two key components: a realistic event generation model that accounts for various intrinsic parameters (e.g. timeindependent, asymmetric threshold and refractory period) and non-idealities (e.g. pixel-to-pixel threshold variation), as well as a complementary pair of normalized reconstruction losses that can effectively generalize to arbitrary speed profiles and intrinsic parameter values without such prior knowledge. Experiments on real and novel realistically simulated sequences verify our effectiveness. Our code, synthetic dataset and improved event simulator are public.

Jakarta as the Indonesian capital city has extreme average rainfall in 2020, based on data from the DKI Jakarta Representative Central Bureau of Statistics and the meteorology, climatology, and geophysics agency. From year to year, the city of Jakarta has not been spared from floods which have seriously disrupted the activities of the people of Jakarta. Flood disasters greatly disrupt people's economic activities and cause various other problems including public health problems, one of which is causing infectious diseases. In such a case, this research work proposes a mobile application for flood disaster monitoring that will help the Jakarta government to maintain the flood as real flood information in Jakarta. The Jakarta city government and the residents of the city of Jakarta can work hand in hand using mobile application technology to combat this flood problem and enable the Jakarta city government to quickly overcome any reported flood problems. The proposed mobile application was modeled with a use case and class diagrams.
