Increasing threats to global water resources from climate change emphasize the importance of comprehending its impacts on hydrology for effective water management. This article quantifies climate input uncertainty in streamflow projections for the Libmanan-Pulantuna Watershed (LPW) in the Bicol River Basin, Philippines. Using the Water Evaluation and Planning (WEAP) model, we simulated streamflow based on future climate projections (FCPs) from Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) greenhouse-gas emission scenarios, utilizing Coupled Model Intercomparison Project phases 5 (CMIP5) and 6 (CMIP6) datasets. Four Global Circulation Models (GCMs) and three bias correction techniques (Linear Scaling, Quantile Mapping, and Detrended Quantile Mapping) were applied. Results showed significant differences between the CMIP datasets, with raw CMIP6 better capturing historical climate patterns. Bias correction methods reduced projection biases in precipitation and air temperatures. Projections revealed increasing low flows and decreasing high flows, especially under high-emission scenarios, worsening water shortages during critical periods. Analysis of Variance (ANOVA) showed that climate models were a major source of uncertainty in hydrological projections. Combined FCPs and GCMs contributed to 50%-75% of total uncertainty across flow percentiles and future periods (near-future, mid-future, far-future). These findings underscore the importance of careful model selection and effective bias correction for reliable hydrological projections, crucial for water management strategies in areas like the Bicol River Basin, where water resources are essential for communities and ecosystems. © 2025, The Authors. Urban greening is critical for sustainable urban development, climate change mitigation, and biodiversity conservation. However, the effectiveness of urban greening varies depending on the specific goals (e.g., enhancing biodiversity, reducing urban heat, or both) and their spatial implementation. To address the spatial variability in the effectiveness of greening, we propose a spatial decision support model based on the non-dominated sorting genetic algorithm-II (NSGA-II). This model aims to optimize urban greening locations to maximize biomass density, mitigate urban heat stress, and improve landscape connectivity. Applied to Suwon City, South Korea, the model's effectiveness was evaluated against a business-as-usual (BAU) scenario across four scenarios: connectivity-based, biomass density-based, heat stress-based, and an integrated-based scenario. The integrated approach, balancing trade-offs between ecological benefits and implementation costs, outperformed the BAU scenario by 8.84 %. Despite highlighting a weaker correlation with heat stress mitigation, this outcome indicates significant improvements in biomass density and landscape connectivity. Our findings underscore the necessity of an integrated planning approach to urban greening, as it can contribute toward attaining urban development goals. Additionally, by proposing an app-based model for policymakers, our outputs should enable the reconciliation of multiple environmental objectives in urban landscapes. © 2025 Elsevier Ltd

Monetary authorities globally have studied central bank digital currency (CBDC) for wholesale and retail applications since the 1990s. Besides countering private cryptocurrencies' influence, central banks have also explored other benefits of CBDC, such as improving their financial oversight, enhancing digital payment systems, and reducing transaction fees and friction. For several years, the Bank of Thailand has also invested in research and development of CBDC, including retail use cases. However, an optimized design for an official launch of a retail CBDC in Thailand has yet to be determined, resembling fragmented progress observed among other central banks. This research has leveraged disruptive innovation theory to provide a fresh perspective on retail CBDC as potentially disruptive financial innovations. Additionally, it has proposed an open innovation-based methodology to determine industry preferences concerning twelve design considerations for retail CBDC and their impact on nine indicators of disruptive innovation. Data has been collected and analyzed from 98 respondents outside the Bank of Thailand, all possessing relevant expertise or experience in electronic payments. Crosstab and logistic regression analyses have indicated that retail CBDC in Thailand could embark on a disruptive innovation trajectory by adhering to defined design choices. Significantly, entering a new detached market has been identified as the most promising entry point, accompanied by explicit recommendations on nine out of twelve design considerations. © 2025 The Authors

It is known that there are many ways to manage food waste, however, no specific work has ever been reported on the easiness and economics of treatment mainly at the source. This study hopes to fulfill the gap by constructing a novel waste bin layered with plastic that can continuously accommodate and decompose food waste produced at the source. After several months of use, the bin has been found to be effective and no foul odor has been detected at least 1 ft away. In addition, produced leachate has been found to be nontoxic and can be used to water plants as evidenced by the pH measurements. Furthermore, introduction of additional features such as covering the bin with a painted cloth and putting a chimney on its top has been observed to enhance the performance. © 2018 The Authors

Cyclic shear loading test and strength evaluation on roof bearings

In 2011, some roof bearings of gymnasiums suffered severe damage by the pacific coast of Tohoku earthquake. Typical damage was the elongation and break of the anchor bolts or crush of base mortar. Since gymnasiums are used as shelters for the neighboring residents in earthquake disasters, damage prevention of roof bearings are required. Roof bearings are the connections between the lower RC frame and the steel roof. They are similar to conventional steel exposed column bases. However, the dominant stress and the mechanism to resist the horizontal forces of the roof bearings are different from those of steel exposed column bases. The dominant stress of steel exposed column bases is axial and bending stress while shear stress of the anchor bolts is dominant for roof bearings since the vertical load is extremely lower than that in steel exposed column bases in ordinary buildings. In present paper, the full-scale cyclic shear loading tests of roof bearings were carried out to investigate the fracture behavior of roof bearings and the restoring force characteristics were also evaluated. Three different height (20mm, 50mm or 100mm) of the base mortar were used to compare the fracture behavior and the restoring force characteristics. Moreover, the friction tests were conducted to investigate the friction coefficient between the base mortar and base plate. It was found from the results of friction tests that the friction coefficient between the base mortar and the base plate was about 0.5. This result agrees very well with the friction coefficient given in the AIJ recommendation for Design of Connections in Steel Structures. The fracture behavior and the restoring force characteristics of roof bearings are summarized as follows. The anchor bolts were leaned after the base plate contacted the anchor bolts. After that, the base mortar cracked since the deformed anchor bolts pushed it out. After the tests, the base mortar was crushed especially outside of anchor bolts. When th

Technology advances in computer simulation such as auralization has brought a new perspective in acoustic research. The possibility to simulate a space, play a sound source and listen to the result made possible to open new frontiers on subjective evaluation of acoustics environments. As part of a PhD in architecture, focused in acoustics, this paper intends to investigate the feasibility of using auralization to study the threshold of perception of spatialization, specifically regarding early reflections. A research on the subject made by Barron and Marshall in the 80's was virtually reproduced with the addition of different sound sources such as solo voice, solo cello and two orchestra samples in order to investigate if sound source would have an influence on threshold perception. An anechoic chamber with speakers reproducing direct sound and early reflections at different delays was simulated on software EASE 4.3 from AFMG. A jury analyzed auralized sounds of the different sound sources. Results showed a good correlation with Barron and Marshall's research and that the type of sound source did not make a difference on the threshold perception. It also showed that auralization is a valuable tool for the research of threshold perception and possibly for just noticeable difference perception. © 2015 by ASME.

To reduce the cost of training models for each language for developers of natural language processing applications, pre-trained multilingual sentence encoders are promising. However, since training corpora for such multilingual sentence encoders contain only a small amount of text in languages other than English, they suffer from performance degradation for non-English languages. To improve the performance of pre-trained multilingual sentence encoders for non-English languages, we propose a method of automatic translating a source sentence into English and then inputting it together with the source sentence in a multi-source manner. Experimental results on sentiment analysis and topic classification tasks in Japanese revealed the effectiveness of the proposed method. © 2024 Association for Computational Linguistics.

Recent researches propose the integration of performance analysis to early stages of the design process in order to obtain the building's best final performance (Kolarevric;Malkawi, 2005;Holzer, 2010;Oxman, 2007). Thus, choosing the appropriate set of solutions and digital tools to develop this task is of high complexity and responsibility. The main objective of this paper is to identify and characterize the evaluation of different performances in social housing design stage, through the development of a model containing appropriate abstractions, for the representation of valid and accurate analytical data as inputs and outputs to specific simulations. This study was developed as field study involving experts in the area of thermal comfort, acoustic comfort, lighting comfort, materials conservation, water conservation and accessibility. The results show strengths and difficulties for integrating performance analysis focusing the information modelling and interoperability between computational simulations. A sequence for performing simulations considering inter-influences is proposed. This paper contributes with the characterization of the ideal information model to be use in different simulation tools, during the design stage of social housing solutions;promoting quality improvement related to social housing and the use of BIM (Building Information Modeling). This paper will discuss conceptual fundamentals that will support a thesis research. A planing hull high-speed ferry with a stepped hull becomes a well-liked mode of water transportation for archipelago countries. On the other hand, the shape of steps on the bottom hull has not been recently taken into explicit consideration regarding the speed requirement and hydrodynamic properties. In this study, the step W shapes, were adopted to find the improved hydrodynamic performance in the planing conditions. To provide a more precise prediction of the pressure, velocity fields, and void fraction, the CFD was applied the Finite Volume Method (FVM) and coupled with Volume of Fluid Method (VOF) to capture air cavity The numerical conditions of the planing hull were trimmed by the stern with 2, and 3 degrees. This study discussed the air cavity that occurred behind the stepped area that can affect the hydrodynamic behaviour. © 2023 by the International Society of Offshore and Polar Engineers (ISOPE).
