Most of lunar or planetary landers have landing legs to reduce shock at the touchdown. They are usually made by passive elements that use aluminum honeycomb structure. When the spacecraft has horizontal velocity or lands on inclined surface, however, reaction force from legs causes rotational moment and the spacecraft might tumble down. The spacecraft should be designed to have lower center of gravity in order to prevent turnover. To avoid turn over and optimize elasticity and damping parameter of landing legs, we had proposed actively controlled landing legs. Since full-actively controlled legs which use high speed and high torque motors require large mass, large power and complexity, semi-actively controlled landing legs are considered. That is, only damping coefficient is controlled following states of the spacecraft. As a result of our study, damping coefficient should be switched to low or high depending on the sign of angular velocity of the spacecraft and shrinking speed of each landing leg. In the presentation, summary of our study is shown. The control scheme of the landing legs are introduced from theoretical consideration. Many uncertainties arise in system development as systems can be complex and large-scale and can be deployed in an uncertain environment. Developers cannot determine some types of uncertainties until the start of an operation. To deal with changing requirements and environments owing to these uncertainties, we must build an architecture that takes operations into account within a system development lifecycle. In this paper, a lifecycle-oriented development process is proposed to improve the uncertainties of requirement and design. As a case study, we apply the proposed method to the development of Patrash, a transfer guide application.

In this paper, we propose a probe signal-based method for continuous acoustic adaptive feedback cancelation (AFC) in digital hearing aids. The main idea is to incorporate a time varying gain with the probe signal, such that a high level probe noise is injected during the transient state, and a low level probe signal is used after the system has converged. The proposed method is essentially based on two adaptive filters working in tandem. The weights between these two adaptive filters are exchanged by an efficient weight-transfer strategy, such that both adaptive filters give a good estimate of the acoustic feedback path. Simulation results demonstrate that the proposed method achieves good modeling accuracy, preserves good speech quality, and maintains high output SNR at the steady-state.

Estimating communication skills based on multimodal information in group discussions

This paper focuses on developing a model for estimating communication skills of each participant in a group from multimodal (verbal and nonverbal) features. For this purpose, we use a multimodal group meeting corpus including audio signal data and head motion sensor data of participants observed in 30 group meeting sessions. The corpus also includes the communication skills of each participant, which is assessed by 21 external observers with the experience of human resource management. We extracted various kinds of features such as spoken utterances, acoustic features, speaking turns and the amount of head motion to estimate the communication skills. First, we created a regression model to infer the level of communication skills from these features using support vector regression to evaluate the estimation accuracy of the communication skills. Second, we created a binary (high or low) classification model using support vector machine. Experiment results show that the multimodal model achieved 0.62 in R2 as the regression accuracy of overall skill, and also achieved 0.93 as the classification accuracy. This paper reports effective features in predicting the level of communication skill and shows that these features are also useful in characterizing the difference between the participants who have high level communication skills and those who do not. © 2016, Japanese Society for Artificial Intelligence. High-Sc-content ScAlN thin films have attracted significant attention because of their strong piezoelectricity. Akiyama et al. found that the piezoelectricity of ScAlN thin films increases monotonically with increasing Sc concentration, r. The piezoelectricity reaches a maximum at r = 43 at%, at which point the piezoelectric coefficient, d 33 , is five times that of pure AlN. Hashimoto et al. reported that a surface acoustic wave (SAW) resonator based on the ScAlN/6H-SiC structure exhibited resonance Q, anti-resonance Q, and K 2 values of 340, 240, and 4.5%, respectively, at 3.8 GHz. These values suggest that a ScAlN thin film on a hard substrate should be a suitable SAW wideband filter substrate for next-generation wireless communication systems.

This paper represents creating and analyzing of an adequate hydraulically balanced Water Distribution Network (WDN) based on Geographical information system (GIS) and Epanet softwares. First a proper and functional WDN has been built and skeletonized by network analyst methodology in GIS. Then the project scenario has been imported into Epanet with simple text or Epanet's readable format consisted of multiple physical and non-physical WDN's objects and Its characteristics. These all in order to determine, analyze and simulate hydraulic parameters of WDN. Second, we analyzed and determined water flows, water in each pipe, water flows direction as well as pressure heads at each node in the network with other required hydraulics parameters. The advantages of this method are simple math and self-correction. Concisely, the context of this work is to use GIS and Epanet-based methodologies as well as solution of closed-loop network problems. Used continuity and energy conservation methods due to determination of pressure heads at each node, water flows and water flows direction at each pipe in the network. As a result got a satisfied hydraulically balanced and a systematic WDN appropriately as the implications of this paper approaches consequently. © 2015 IEEE.

Numerical simulations for relatively thick airfoils are carried out in the present studies. An attempt to improve the accuracy of the numerical predictions is done by adjusting the turbulent viscosity of the eddy-viscosity Menter Shear-Stress-Transport (SST) model. The modification involves the addition of a damping factor on the wall-bounded flows incorporating the ratio of the turbulent kinetic energy to its specific dissipation rate for separation detection. The results are compared with available experimental data and CFD simulations using the original Menter SST model. The present model improves the lift polar prediction even though the stall angle is still overestimated. The improvement is caused by the better prediction of separated flow under a strong adverse pressure gradient. The results show that the Reynolds stresses are damped near the wall causing variation of the logarithmic velocity profiles.

Cooperative localization can enhance the accuracy of wireless network localization by incorporating range information among agent nodes in addition to those between agents and anchors. In this paper, we investigate the optimal allocation of the restricted resources, namely, power and bandwidth, to different nodes. We formulate the optimization problems for both synchronous networks and asynchronous networks, where one way and round trip measurements are applied for range estimation, respectively. Since the optimization problems are nonconvex, we develop an iterative linearization-based technique, and show by comparison with brute-force search that it provides near-optimal performance in the investigated cases. We also show that especially in the case of inefficient anchor placement and/or severe shadowing, cooperation among agents is important and more resources should be allocated to the agents correspondingly. © 2016 IEEE.

Background: The sustainable development goals (SDGs) aim to end HIV/AIDS as a public health threat by 2030. Understanding the current state of the HIV epidemic and its change over time is essential to this effort. This study assesses the current sex-specific HIV burden in 204 countries and territories and measures progress in the control of the epidemic. Methods: To estimate age-specific and sex-specific trends in 48 of 204 countries, we extended the Estimation and Projection Package Age-Sex Model to also implement the spectrum paediatric model. We used this model in cases where age and sex specific HIV-seroprevalence surveys and antenatal care-clinic sentinel surveillance data were available. For the remaining 156 of 204 locations, we developed a cohort-incidence bias adjustment to derive incidence as a function of cause-of-death data from vital registration systems. The incidence was input to a custom Spectrum model. To assess progress, we measured the percentage change in incident cases and deaths between 2010 and 2019 (threshold >75% decline), the ratio of incident cases to number of people living with HIV (incidence-to-prevalence ratio threshold <0·03), and the ratio of incident cases to deaths (incidence-to-mortality ratio threshold <1·0). Findings: In 2019, there were 36·8 million (95% uncertainty interval [UI] 35·1–38·9) people living with HIV worldwide. There were 0·84 males (95% UI 0·78–0·91) per female living with HIV in 2019, 0·99 male infections (0·91–1·10) for every female infection, and 1·02 male deaths (0·95–1·10) per female death. Global progress in incident cases and deaths between 2010 and 2019 was driven by sub-Saharan Africa (with a 28·52% decrease in incident cases, 95% UI 19·58–35·43, and a 39·66% decrease in deaths, 36·49–42·36). Elsewhere, the incidence remained stable or increased, whereas deaths generally decreased.
