This paper proposes an impact metric for assumed software changes described in UML diagrams for embedded systems. The impact metric indicate that degree of ease to change software according to changes of requirements and designs, and based on complexity metric of UML class and state machine diagrams. We also demonstrate the proposed impact measure to conduct some experiment to develop a sample project. The evaluation indicates that the proposed metric have a strong correlation with degree of ease to change target project.

In this paper, a multi-agent simulation model of urban traffic behavior using Origin-Destination data and an example of bus line optimization as an application of the model are showed. In the model, inhabitants' behaviors of travel are expressed by decision of inhabitant agents. They select one of means of mobility and route by optimizing their evaluation functions. There are too many search candidates in their decisions to calculate in practical time, thus some assumptions and mathematical optimization techniques are applied to reduce calculation time. Route search algorithms of agents are divided into two parts of common and individual. The result of the common part is jointly used by all agents, thus the algorithm of the common part is executed only once. On the other hand, the individual part is built as parallelizable *** potential of the proposed model is demonstrated by simulation examples of two scenarios in which a part of traffic networks differ each other. Furthermore, it is showed that an application example in which route of community buses in Imizu-city is improved using the proposed model.

Understanding neural responses to multi-site electrical stimuli would be of essential importance for developing cortical neural prostheses. In order to provide a tool for such studies in experimental animals, we recently constructed a prototype of a wireless multi-channel microstimulation system, consisting of a stimulator chip, wireless data/power transmitters and receivers, and microcomputers. The proper operations of the system in cortical neural excitations were examined in anesthetized rats in vivo, with utilizing the voltage-sensitive dye imaging technique.

The authors measured thrust forces of an inductively coupled plasma thruster under various conditions of electric power and mass flow rate. The forward power from an RF power source is set in the range from 200 to 600 W and the mass flow rate is ranged from 0.09 to 0.17 g/sec. Ar gas is used as a propellant. The emission spectrum of the plasma is also obtained under various conditions. The thrust force did not increase for low forward powers and high mass flow rates because of insufficient Joule heating in the thruster. The thrust force and the specific impulse for high input powers or low mass flow rates are larger than those without the electric power because of the increment of stagnation temperature of the propellant. The thrust force also increases with the mass flow rate, while the specific impulse hardly changes for the variation of mass flow rate. This result denotes the stagnation temperature of the propellant scarcely varies with mass flow rate in this experiment. Results of the emission spectroscopy indicate that the plasma in the thruster is in a state of thermal non-equilibrium. The electron energy is, therefore, not probably transferred to heavy particles sufficiently. © 2015 by the American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics, Inc. All rights reserved.

With growing mobile data consumption, foldable displays have enabled further enlargement for the display of a mobile device without increasing the size and weight of the device. This paper addresses a possible problem of image distortion for image displays on foldable mobile devices. When a mobile device is folded with a certain degree, the part of a displayed image in the folded area (or bending zone) of the device may be squeezed. To provide better visual quality for a foldable display, we formulate the problem as a piecewise content-aware image retargeting problem. To compensate the squeezed region of an image in the bending zone of a device, we propose to expand this region toward the left and right sides, respectively, based on the image content. In the meantime, the original left and right regions of the image should be also adjusted accordingly. In this paper, we investigate how to apply an image retargeting technique to solve the problem for better identifying visually significant contents of the image and produce more pleasing display result.

In this paper, we present a visualization tool for person re-identification when tracking objects across non-overlapping cameras. Tracking objects across non-overlapping cameras is challenging because the observations from different cameras are widely separated in both time and space. Hence, these systems need a large amount of labeled training data. Commonly, this training data is constructed manually at significant human cost. We support this process efficiently by visualizing the correspondences of objects across multiple cameras. Our tool facilitates the construction of a database for person re-identification with ease. Moreover, the accuracy of person re-identification can be increased using the generated database because the amount of training data is increased. In the experiments, we apply the proposed tool to real world situations to verify the validity of the proposed system.

Detailed profiling energy consumption method is essential for developing applications. Existing methods are able to estimate each method of an Android application. However, these methods cannot profile in terms of GUI (graphical user interface). In this paper, we propose an estimating energy consumption method for each GUI component of Android applications. Our proposed method inserts probes before and after the processes for each GUI component. The Estimated energy is calculated from the logs that recoded at the probes. We also present an automatic probing scheme utilizing data-flow analysis and searching source codes.

This paper proposes a walking route recommendation system aiming at continuously supporting a user to take a walk as means for health promotion. In recent years, taking a walk becomes popular with not only the elderly, but also those from all ages as one of the easiest ways for health promotion. The proposed system supports users to take a walk as daily exercise by recommending a walking route that can consume target calories. When it is going to be used for long period of time, it should consider the case when a user will not follow the recommended route. We think it will often happen when a user gradually gets bored with taking a walk during a long period of time. In order to solve the problem, the proposed method implicitly manages calories on monthly basis and recommends walking routes that could keep a user from getting bored. The Effectiveness of the recommendation algorithm is evaluated with agent simulation. This paper also proposes a navigation interface that presents direction to the next visiting point without using a map. It is evaluated by an experiment with test participants.

This paper presents several algorithms for multi-dimensional data clustering. The main difference of the algorithms introduced in this paper comparing to known ones is that the algorithms are multi-agent based and gossip. Hence, the number of computation in each step is not too large even for large data and the computational burden can be distributed. The basic algorithm is described as follows. Each data object is assigned to an agent in a network and its attributes constitute to a vector which is considered as the initial state of the agent. A common confidence threshold is set for all of the agents. The states of agents in the network will be updated time by time according to an iterative procedure: At each time, (i) two arbitrary agents are chosen randomly, (ii) they exchange their states, and (iii) if the distance between their states does not exceed the confidence threshold, they update their states as the average of the two. Under a certain condition, this algorithm converges almost surely in an equilibrium point such that any two agents either have the same final state or have distinct states which differ more than the confidence threshold from each other. In this way, the given data objects are partitioned into groups such that ones in the same group correspond to the agents with the same final state. Some modified algorithms for improving the performance of clustering and/or getting some prescribed condition are also introduced.
