A hybrid simulator is a simulator which embeds a hardware experiment in a numerical simulation. However, the hybrid simulator is generally subjected to an inherent problem of energy increase in collision of two hardwares in the loop because of delay times. To solve this problem, Osaki et al. proposed a compensation method of delay time that can realize a variable coefficient of restitution [1]. However, the above method has a drawback that a model error of the system degrades the accuracy of the compensation method. This paper describes the influence of the model error and proposes a new approach to improve the accuracy of delay time compensation based on the coefficient of restitution by introducing a new model of the system. A collision experiment by the hybrid simulator is carried out to validate the accuracy of the proposed compensation method compared with the conventional compensation method.

Final purpose in this research is to contribute to developing of assistive robot and apparatus. Recently, there is a pressing need to develop a new system which assists and acts for car driving and wheelchair for the elderly as the population grows older. In terms of developing a new system, it is thought that it is important to examine behaviors as well as spatial recognition. Therefore, experiments have been performed for an examination of human spatial perceptions, especially right and left recognition, during car driving using NIRS. In previous research, it has been documented that there were significant differences at dorsolateral prefrontal cortex at left hemisphere during virtual driving task and actual driving. In this paper, brain activity during car driving was measured and detailed analysis was performed by segmentalizing brain activity during car driving on the basis of subjects' motion. So, we report the relationship between brain activity and movement concerned with perception during driving in this paper. © 2012 IEEE.

This paper proposes a microassembly process that easily realizes a gimbal-less two-axis electrostatic MEMS scanner with fixed angular vertical comb electrodes (FAVCs). The fabrication steps can be remarkably reduced by employing a microassembly, as there is no need to add an insulation layer and conduct a multi-step etching process for SVCs. The reduction in the number of fabrication steps also improves the device yield and reduces fabrication errors. The proposed scanner can be readily applied to various optical applications, as the slow axis is driven by quasi-static operation, allowing the amplitude of the scanning angle to remain constant within a specific frequency range.

This paper deals with time dependent performance characteristics of cavitating hydrofoils, the flow around which has been simulated using pressure-based finite volume method. A bubble dynamics cavitation model was used to investigate the unsteady behavior of cavitating flow and describe the generation and evaporation of vapor phase. For choosing the turbulence model and mesh size a non cavitating study was conducted. Three turbulence models such as Spalart-Allmaras, Shear Stress Turbulence （SST） κ-ω model, Re-Normalization Group （RNG） κ-ε model with enhanced wall treatment are used to capture the turbulent boundary layer along the hydrofoil surface. The cavitating study presents an unsteady behavior of the partial cavity attached to the foil at different time steps for σ = 0.8 and σ = 0.4. Moreover, this study is focused on cavitation inception, the shape and general behavior of sheet cavitation, lift and drag forces for different cavitation numbers.

In this paper, we propose a novel architecture for large-scale regular expression matching, called dynamically reconfigurable bitparallel NFA architecture (Dynamic BP-NFA), which allows dynamic loading of regular expressions on-the-fly as well as efficient pattern matching for fast data streams. This is the first dynamically reconfigurable hardware with guaranteed performance for the class of extended patterns, which is a subclass of regular expressions consisting of union of characters and its repeat. This class allows operators such as character classes, gaps, optional characters, and bounded and unbounded repeats of character classes. The key to our architecture is the use of bit-parallel pattern matching approach, in which the information of an input non-deterministic finite automaton (NFA) is first compactly encoded in bit-masks stored in a collection of registers and block RAMs. Then, the NFA is efficiently simulated by a fixed circuitry using bitwise Boolean and arithmetic operations consuming one input character per clock regardless of the actual contents of an input text. Experimental results showed that our hardwares for both string and extended patterns were comparable to previous dynamically reconfigurable hardwares in their performances. © 2012 The Institute of Electronics, information and Communication Engineers.

Developing a LCA database of wood materials

At present, the use of eco-friendly building materials is needed in order to reduce the environmental load. From this viewpoint, a LCA database has been established by the Architectural Institute of Japan. However, the database has two problems. First, the environmental load of imported wood materials is not evaluated. Second, the environmental load of wood materials in the database is stored as an average value. The purpose of this study is developing a LCA database of wood materials that takes into account imported wood materials and contains detailed data for the forestry, manufacturing, and transport stages.

In the resource constrained Wireless Sensor Networks (WSNs), the broadcast authentication is widely fulfilled by the emerging delayed authentication technique. The one level backward one-way key chain in the delayed authentication technique limits heavily the duration of the broadcast authentication. In this paper, we propose a long duration broadcast authentication scheme for WSNs. The proposed scheme uses a novel hierarchical key chain to extend the duration of broadcast authentication to be as long as the whole lifetime of WSNs. Moreover, the overhead of the proposed scheme is significantly reduced compared to that with one level key chain. Extensive experimental results show that the novel hierarchical key chain fully outperforms the one level key chain in terms of memory and computation.

This paper describes an unconstrained measurement system for scratching motion. We have proposed an unconstrained bed monitoring system by piezoceramic sensors that could detect heartbeat respiration and body movement. The system could measure the bed vibrations due to the motion of the person on the bed. In this paper, we apply this unconstrained bed sensing method to the system for detecting scratching motion. The proposed sensors are placed under the bed feet. When the subject is lying on the bed, the output signals from the sensors are proportional to the magnitude of the vibration due to the body movement of the subject. Hence, it is possible to detect the subject's scratching motion from the output signals. Furthermore, also with output signals from the three ceramic sensors, the proposed system can detect the direction of the body movement, which enables us to estimate the scratched area. We evaluated three scratching motions using the proposed system in the validity experiment as follows: Case 1 is the subject's scratching the right cheek with right hand;Case 2 is the subject's scratching the back after turning over, and;Case 3 is the subject's scratching the shin with another foot. As the results of the experiment, we identified the scratching signals that enable the determination when the scratching occurred. Furthermore, the difference among the amplitudes of the output signals enabled us to estimate where the subject scratched.

A stock market is a base of the economic activity in present-day free economy society. In order to become a listed company, there is a severe examination. Furthermore, yearly duty is attached by law for the listed company to file the fixed form report about the financial condition. In this paper, correspondence of the numeric data about the activity of a company and text data is analyzed for the financial report. All of 68 medical-supplies-related listed companies were chosen first. Then, the feature words were extracted from the reports of the companies where achievements have improved favorably. Moreover, the feature words of the financial report of the time were extracted about the companies where achievements carried out the sharp reversal to profitability. The importance of video surveillance applications has been increasing with the increase of crime and terrorism. In addition to traditional video cameras, the use of acoustic sensors in surveillance and monitoring applications is also becoming increasingly important. In this paper, we apply High-Order Local Auto-Correlation (HLAC), which has succeeded in video surveillance applications, to extract features from acoustic signals in order to construct an acoustic surveillance system based on a novelty detection approach. We also apply Non-Negative Matrix Factorization (NMF) to this problem. Experiment results confirmed that the AHLAC-based method outperforms the NMF-based and the cepstrum-based methods under all SNR conditions. The combined NMF-AHLAC method was able to improve the Equal Error Rate (EER) at lower SNRs, although the EERs at higher SNRs tend to degrade.
