The purpose of this study was to quantitatively assess the influence of the Fåhraeus-Lindqvist effect on the microcirculation in the arteriovenous network of the human retina. A mathematical model was used to simulate the arteriovenous distributions of hemodynamic parameters within a microvascular network of successive, symmetric bifurcating branches that were constructed based on both flow conservation and a modified Murray's lawwith a diameter exponent of 2.85. The vessel calibers ranged from a 108-μm arteriole and a 147-μm venule down to the 5-μm capillaries. The distributions of vascular resistance, pressure drop, and wall shear stress as a function of vessel diameter within the retinal microcirculatory network with the Fåhraeus- Lindqvist effect were lower than those without the Fåhraeus-Lindqvist effect. The efficiency of blood transport to tissues in the microvascular bed, which was evaluated in terms of the inverse of the mechanical energy cost of the product of the driving pressure and blood flow, was 44 greater with the Fåhraeus-Lindqvist effect than without the Fåhraeus-Lindqvist effect. These results quantitatively demonstrated that the Fåhraeus-Lindqvist effect plays an important role in reducing the physical energy required to transport blood that flows through the microcirculatory network. The integrated and interactive relationships between shear stress, circumferential wall stress, vessel radius, and wall thickness in response to acute and chronic increases in perfusion pressure are discussed with regard to their coordinating roles in the control of blood flow and pressure in microcirculation.

Through the use of module based software solutions, programming humanoid robots became simple in the sense that detailed knowledge of the underlying software and hardware layers became largely unnecessary. In this paper we argue that the current situation, while being satisfactory for most users, requires improvement for facing situations in which delivery of a complex autonomous behavior is part of the final target. In such case, implementing a dedicated behavior control architecture remains a complex task. In this paper we propose a behavior oriented software framework to be added above the existing modular architecture. This framework is based on centralized integration of sensory data, schematic representation of objects, resource management and intrinsic motivation. It supports code organization, favors code reuse and allows rapid obtention of behaviors that can be easiliy modified or extended. A version of the framework for Aldebaran Nao was developed and tested. © 2011 IEEE.

This paper presents joint source channel variable length (VL) coding/decoding based on a space *** constructing a joint decoding plane trellis,better decoding performance can be achieved than by using the bit-level decoding ***,the plane trellis is complicated,which results in high decoding complexity for decoding VL turbo *** solve this problem,we construct a space trellis and design a low-complexity joint decoding algorithm with a variable length symbol-a posteriori probability (VLS-APP) algorithm in resource constrained deep space communication *** results show that the proposed approach reduces the decoding complexity by 10% compared with the plane trellis,and the gain of Eb/N0 is about 0.2 dB at SER=***,it provides substantial error protection for variable-length encoded image data.

Final purpose in this research is to contribute to developing of assistive robot and apparatus. Recently, there is a pressing need to develop a new system which assists and acts for car driving and wheelchair for the elderly as the population grows older. In terms of developing a new system, it is thought that it is important to examine behaviors as well as spatial recognition. Therefore, experiments have been performed for an examination of human spatial perceptions, especially right and left recognition, during car driving using NIRS. In previous research, it has been documented that there were significant differences at dorsolateral prefrontal cortex at left hemisphere during virtual driving task and actual driving. In this paper, brain activity during car driving was measured and detailed analysis was performed by segmentalizing brain activity during car driving on the basis of subjects' motion. So, we report the relationship between brain activity and movement concerned with perception during driving in this paper.

A structure of the Internet advertisement is that the service providers decide order of placement of many advertisements and advertising fees by auctions when advertisers offer their promotions. It is known that Generalized Second Price Auction (GSP) mechanism is most efficient auction mechanism of the advertisement auction. Some searching sites employ GSP mechanism basically. There are a lot of researches on GSP in order to analyze and clarify its feature and advantages. However, these researches assume that traded advertisements are mutually independent. That is means that each advertisement does not influence other advertisements. Also these researches do not consider a value of advertisement, which means some criterions of a name value of a company, an effectiveness and an importance, that is dependently each other. This paper proposes a new advertisement auction mechanism based on GSP with considering the value of advertisement. We analyze the auctioneer's profit in comparison between normal GSP, normal VCG (Vickrey-Clarke-Groves Mechanism) and our proposed mechanism. The contribution of our research includes to clarify the features and advantages of advertisement auctions and effects to search service sites' profit rate. © 2011 Springer-Verlag.

Video streams are increasing by the development of network environments and price reduction of camera devices. Therefore needs of applications for querying video streams such as surveillance systems are on the increase. Meanwhile, relational stream processing systems have been researched for querying tuple streams. It is hard to deal with video streams by relational stream processing systems because video streams have time dependency which tuple streams do not have. In this paper, we propose a video manager for relational stream processing systems to integrate video streams and tuple streams. It can be used to query video streams using relational operators by relational stream processing systems and we can obtain resulting video data using RTSP. A video manager manages video data as MPEG-4 files so that they can be played easily by common media players. Finally we implemented a prototype system and evaluated its performance. © 2011 IEEE Computer Society. All rights reserved.

Open source software systems which serve as key components of critical infrastructures in our social life are still ever-expanding now. An open source project contains special features so-called software composition by which several geographically-dispersed components are developed in all parts of the world. The successful experience of adopting the distributed development paradigm in such open source projects includes GNU/Linux operating system, Apache Web server, Android, BusyBox, and so on. We propose a method of reliability assessment based on Bayesian theory and Markov chain Monte Carlo methods. Also, we analyze actual software fault-count data to show numerical examples of reliability assessment for OSS.

Many open source softwares are developed in all parts of the world, i.e, Firefox, Apache HTTP server, Linux, Android, etc. Also, open source software systems which serve as key components of critical infrastructures in the society are still ever-expanding now. Especially, a large-scale open source solution composed of several open source softwares is now attracting attention as the next-generation software development paradigm. In this paper, we propose a new approach to software reliability assessment by using the stochastic differential equations. Also, we analyze actual software fault-count data to show numerical examples of software reliability assessment considering component collision for several open source softwares. Especially, we derive several reliability assessment measures from our model. We show that the proposed model can assist improvement of quality for the largescale open source solution.

A trie is a data structure representing a set of sequences by sharing the same prefixes between sequences. Thanks to this sharing, prefix searches on a trie is performed efficiently. Constructing a trie representing a set of reversed sequences is useful for suffix searches on the original sequences. This is because a prefix search on reversed sequences corresponds to a suffix search on the original sequences. A Sequence Binary Decision Diagram (SeqBDD) also represents a set of sequences compactly by sharing the same prefixes between the sequences. In addition, a SeqBDD can share suffixes between the sequences unlike a trie. Thus, it is desirable to construct a SeqBDD representing a set of the reversed sequences from a given SeqBDD efficiently for a suffix search on the SeqBDD. To this end, we propose a method visiting each node in a SeqBDD only one time since it visits the nodes based on the topological sorting. Hence, our method is more efficient than a simple recursive method that visits the same nodes many times. The experimental results show that our method constructs a SeqBDD representing a set of reversed sequences more efficiently than a simple recursive method when there are many common prefixes and/or suffixes in given sequences. In addition, we propose two novel applications of the reversed SeqBDDs. © 2011 IEEE.

A measurement system is designed and produced to map the flux density of concentrated solar radiation in the focal plane of solar furnace with an indirect method. It includes a Lambertian moving bar, a CCD-camera and flux gauges. The movement of the bar and the image taking and processing are controlled by a computer. An integrated gray image which indicates the relative value of the radiation flux density can be gained, and the distribution of focus solar flux can be determined. The calibration is done with flux gauges placed on the reference point, which relates the grey level to the flux density. The system operates under the online mode. The measurement error is less than 4%. © 2011 IEEE.
