The industrial world is shifting from mass production to meeting individual needs, requiring guidelines to incorporate emotions and preferences. Traditional questionnaires fall short in capturing detailed real-time emotion changes. Therefore, we propose a novel approach using Electroencephalography(EEG), which reflects central nervous system activity, and heart rate variability(HRV), which reflects autonomic nervous system activity, to estimate emotions in real-time by analyzing arousal and valence. Based on the 2D Arousal-Valence model, we plot EEG and HRV data onto this model to visualize emotion changes caused by external stimuli. Using this proposed method, we conducted joint research with the home and personal care sector to evaluate emotional responses to aroma products, and with the automotive sector to assess drivers' emotional states. These studies demonstrate the value of academic research in guiding the industrial sector, particularly through emotion estimation based on EEG and HRV. Our findings suggest that these technologies offer valuable insights into consumer emotions, which can help improve product design and user experience. Ongoing collaboration between academia and the industrial sector is crucial for overcoming challenges in interpreting physiological signals and effectively integrating these methods into practice.

In this paper, robotic regrasping is considered with the goal of achieving dexterous manipulation. The strategy using quick wrist snap is based on human regrasping, and involves rotating the grasped object due to the inertial force while maintaining the contact state. The posture of the grasped object is measured by high-speed vision in real time and is used for posture control. Experimental results are shown where regrasping of a stick-type object in the direction contrary to gravity can be achieved by a high-speed robot hand.

Multi-path TCP (MPTCP) is a network protocol that has the potential to enhance network performance, which is crucial in grid computing systems to improve the overall system's performance. It utilizes multiple network paths between machines to achieve a high network performance. This protocol can also improve the connectivity of multiple servers that may be in different data centers by combining multiple network paths. One of the main issues of MPTCP is the path for ACK (acknowledgment) packets, which take the same path where original packets come from. When networks have different round trip times (RTTs), MPTCP may dispatch the ACK packet through a longer path, which is inefficient. HayACK solves this issue by selecting the path with the least RTTs. However, HayACK may suffer from inconsistent packets because of middleboxes, which are intermediary devices between the source and the destination that process network packets. These middleboxes may discard MPTCP packets because of inconsistent sequence numbers of HayACK packets, which is a product of HayACK's path selection. This study aims to investigate the usefulness of HayACK for high-performance data transfer when using multiple paths in real network environments and the influence of middleboxes on HayACK. Our investigation was conducted using various network paths by preparing many client hosts with different IP addresses and one server. The influence of middleboxes is determined by checking the probe packets passed through, changed, or discarded. Ontologies and knowledge models have gained more recognition because of their extensive use in recommender systems. The lack of automatic approaches in ontology engineering, however, becomes a challenge to fulfill increasing needs for such knowledge models in the field of tourism. In this study, a system for building tourism knowledge models from online reviews is proposed. The main contribution of the study is the application of topic modeling to build a knowledge model that, in turn, allows for an automated labeling process to train classifiers. Given a collection of unlabeled tourism online reviews, Latent Dirichlet Allocation (LDA) is applied to automatically label each document. Each topic discovered by LDA is labeled with one specific category, representing its semantic meaning based on an existing general ontology as a reference. These automatically labeled documents are used for classification, and the result is compared with manual annotation. Experiments on Indonesian tourism datasets showed that the automatic labeling approach using LDA provides for a precision score of 70%. In classification tasks, this approach can achieve comparable or even better classification performance than the manual labeling. The results obtained suggest that the developed system is capable of building a tourism knowledge model and providing acceptable-quality training data for the development of tourism recommender systems. © 2021 ACM.

This study presents the development of an Internet of Things (IoT) system for a water heater model, focusing on enhancing reliability during sensor malfunctions that could disrupt operations. Using the SEMAR IoT platform, the system efficiently collects and analyzes data, while the integration of the Holt-Winter algorithm ensures accurate temperature estimates, even with unreliable or missing sensor data. The algorithm successfully auto-calibrates sensors, predicts temperature at specific time intervals based on real sensor behavior, and fills in missing data during sensor failures. Tests show strong correlations between estimated and actual temperatures, allowing uninterrupted operation. This solution offers a flexible, cost-effective alternative to traditional redundancy, ensuring system reliability during sensor failures. Future research will explore alternative predictive models and conduct real-world testing to validate the system's resilience under complex conditions. © 2024 IEEE.

DNS over HTTPS (DoH) enhances user privacy by encrypting DNS communications over HTTPS instead of plaintext. When all DNS messages are sent in plaintext, DNS queries can be examined and domain filtering applied if the queried domain name is identified as a phishing site or other such undesirable site. However, if DNS messages are encrypted over HTTPS, it can create many problems for network administrators. This paper proposes a method for detecting DoH communications from only non-encrypted information on a middlebox between user and resolvers by exploiting the fact that users always send a DNS query before they access a new domain. The middlebox can also identify the destination of the detected DoH traffic so that network administrators can recommend users to send DNS messages to a local DoH resolver with domain filtering instead of sending them to an open DoH resolver. In experiments to detect DoH communications during real communication from a web browser we achieved detection accuracy rates reaching 100% under certain parameters when the number of access IP addresses exceeded 350. To confirm the accuracy and generalizability of our experiments, the proposed method was also applied to captured HTTPS traffic data involving different web browsers and different DoH resolvers with an almost identical level of detection accuracy.

Learning activities are an indicator of the learner's desire to learn during the learning process. The pattern of learner action is related to learning activities. In this case, in extracting the learning process, it is necessary to collect a lot of data through analysis of the learning process. The purpose of this study is to recommend and report the performance of an activity tracking system equipped with visual artifacts as an educational data mining approach to analyze action patterns when learners complete the arrangement of program code lines in each programming problem. In this study, data were taken from activity recordings when learners used interactive learning media for a basic programming subject called TOLSYASUPI-EduMed which had problem-solving learning models embedded in their interactions. Learning Analytics is used as a method of this research and data relationships from learner actions during the learning process using the 'if-then' rule. Log data is used for recording and detecting activities carried out by learners. We confirm that the results of the study are based on the findings of the data relationship that if the lines of program code are too long (more than five lines) then almost all learners experience a bottleneck condition. The completion time of each question and the number of iterations in completing the program code lines for each question have also been recorded and have a pattern of connection between the data. The information that has been obtained is then forwarded to teachers or stakeholders as key information to make appropriate feedback to learners based on the results as a means of analyzing and evaluating the programming learning process. © 2022 IEEE.

Balancing performance and privacy in centralized machine learning, especially in sensitive domains such as medicine and finance, remains a significant issue. Concerns about data confidentiality result in a reluctance to share confidential data even among related entities, hindering integrated analysis despite its acknowledged benefits. Recent advancements in distributed data analysis have provided a solution to the concern, particularly through the framework of federated learning. This framework enables multiple clients to train models collaboratively while preserving the confidentiality of their data. Fed-DR-Filter extends federated learning by introducing the Privacy-Preserving Data Representation (PPDR) transformation algorithm that converts private datasets into a Global Data Representation (GDR) across multiple clients [4]. The GDR retains the correlation of the original data while ensuring its confidentiality. The PPDR is obtained by adding noise to the GDR, which is then used to filter noisy labels in federated learning environments based on the preserved correlation. Another recent development in distributed data analysis is Data Collaboration Analysis (DCA) [5]. It employs Collaborative Data Representation (CDR), a data representation almost identical to GDR, to directly generate high-performance models without the need for model sharing or iterative communication among clients. The present study builds the crucial role of CDRs and GDRs in DCA and Fed-DR-Filter by proposing a novel method for CDR creation with a solid theoretical foundation. The purpose is to enhance the performance of these techniques by providing an alternative and more effective algorithm for CDR and GDR creation. The primary contributions of this study include a novel optimization for CDR creation utilizing matrix manifold optimization and automated hyperparameter tuning. An algorithm for solving this problem is proposed with its empirical evaluation of artificial and real-world dataset

Photoplethysmogram (PPG) is sensitive to body movements and is corrupted by motion artifacts. Conventionally, motion artifacts are reduced by using acceleration at the measurement site. However, the reduction of motion artifacts using acceleration cannot reduce motion artifacts caused by structural changes inside biological tissues. We developed a new pulse rate monitoring system (IR-MAR) that focuses on the difference in the signal-to-noise ratio between dual-wavelength PPG to reduce motion artifacts inside biological tissues. We applied IR-MAR to 15 datasets during the exercise and found that the average MAE of IR-MAR was 7.73 ± 11.72 bpm, whereas 10 of the 15 datasets had an MAE of less than 2 bpm. For a more accurate pulse rate monitoring, IR-MAR requires the pulse component of the IR-PPG and the selection of the spectrum peaks must be improved.

Handover is necessary for improving user equipment (UE) communication quality among different cells in mobile communication networks. However, the handover decision algorithm (HDA) parameters are often difficult to choose. The use of an inappropriate parameter, such as a handover margin (HOM), causes handover failure (HoF) or frequent handover (FHO), especially in heterogeneous networks (HetNet). Therefore, properly determining a handover parameter is crucial for avoiding the HoF and FHO, as well as improving network performance. In this paper, we propose a stochastic Petri Net (SPN) to model the behavior of a UE in a HetNet. We also evaluate and predict the impact on HoF and FHO by different values of HOM in the steady-state, where the FHO is considered as handover trigger probability (HoT). Finally, the HOM value for optimal handover performance is determined using the absolute difference between the HoF and HoT through numerical experiments. The optimal handover performance was obtained at a HOM value of 6.0 dB using the proposal SPN.
