Statics is a backbone course for several engineering disciplines and also a pre-requisite for dynamics and mechanics of materials. Researchers have identified a lack of understanding of statics as a significant source of difficulties in terms of both conceptual understanding, representation of free body diagrams (FBD) and problem-solving ability. Our approach to improve the learning of the concept of friction focuses on students' understanding of acting forces and specific components of such forces of a system. The presented quasi-experimental study investigates how the use of visuo-haptic simulations can improve students understanding and use of FBD. Specifically, we compared two visuo-haptic simulations; one that explicitly visually depicts FBD of multiple objects interacting with different surfaces, while the other only provides haptic feedback while students engage in the same forms of interaction. Our results suggest that using the visuo-haptic simulator with FBD leads to better learning results. These findings support the hypothesis that appropriately sequenced visuo-haptic simulators with well-designed visual cues can help students to better understand and use FBD.

Facilitating non-contact measurement,a computer-imaging system was devised and evaluated to predict the chlorophyll content in potato leaves.A charge-coupled device(CCD)camera paired with two optical filters and light chamber was used to acquire green(550±40 nm)and red band(700±40 nm)images from the same *** leaves from 15 plants differing in coloration(green to yellow)and age were selected for this *** based image features,such as mean and variances of green and red band images,were extracted from the *** analyses demonstrated that the variations in SPAD meter reading could be explained by themeangrayandvariances of gray scale *** fitted least square models based on the mean gray scale levels were inversely related to the chlorophyll content of the potato leaf with a R^2 of 0.87 using a green band image and with an R2 of 0.79 using a red band *** the extracted four image features,the developed multiple linear regression model predicted the chlorophyll content with a high R^2 of 0.88).The multiple regression model(using all features)provided an average prediction accuracy of 85.08% and amaximum accuracy of 99.8%.The prediction model using only mean gray value of red band showed an average accuracy of 81.6% with a maximum accuracy of 99.14%.

The clock bias in different sectors of a cellular base transceiver station (BTS) cell is studied. A dynamical model relating the clock biases in different BTS sectors is identified and validated experimentally. A theoretical estimation error lower bound due to the discrepancy between sector clock biases is derived and demonstrated against Monte Carlo simulation runs. Experimental results of an unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) navigating exclusively with cellular code division multiple access signals are presented. These results demonstrate a 10.51m reduction in the UAV's position estimation error due to incorporating the developed sector mismatch model into the estimation framework.

Educational Data Mining (EDM) is a developing domain that exploring pedagogical data by applying different machine learning techniques. It can be considered as a research field which provides intrinsic knowledge of teaching and learning process for effective education. The main objective of any educational institution is to provide quality education to their students. One way to achieve highest level of quality in higher education system is by discovering knowledge that predicts pedagogues performance. This paper presents an efficient system model for evaluation and prediction of pedagogue performance in higher institutions of learning using data mining technologies. To achieve the objectives of this work, three classification algorithms like decision tree algorithms(C4.5), support vector machines (SMO) and artificial neural networks (MLP) are chosen to build classifier models on a dataset. The classifier system was tested successfully using case study data from St. Joseph college of engineering and Technology, Palai. The data consists of the feedbacks that got from the students. The aim of this work is to demonstrate the capability of EDM in illuminating the criteria of fruitful instructor performance as perceived by the students. The result shows the accuracy of classifier models that predicts the performance of pedagogues. Decision tree J48 have higher accuracy of 94.37% than SMO and MLP.
