This paper demonstrates a approach to design the field programmable CMOS operational transresistance amplifier. All the MOSFETs are replaced by the floating gate MOSFETs to make the OTRA design programmable. The charge at the floating gate can be programmed after fabrication, based on Hot-e-injection and Fowler-Nordheim tunneling techniques. This programming charge at floating gate results in threshold voltage variation in these MOSFETs, which in turn can modify circuit's specifications. The high frequency small signal analysis of the design is prepared and specifications of the design are rederived in terms of threshold voltages of the MOSFETs. The expressions of output voltage, transresistance, input impedance, output impedance and offsets are derived in terms of threshold voltages of respective MOSFETs. In order to achieve circuits AC and DC characteristics, the circuit is simulated using BSIM3 level49 MOSFET models in T-spice 0.35um CMOS process. The simulated results shows 13 bit programming precision in transresistance, input impedance, output impedance, Temperature stability and dc offsets with respect to threshold voltage of respective MOSFETs.

CAD applications provide easy definition facilities as well as precise processing features in industrial applications. These features can be achieved with Standard CAD programs. Nevertheless, for introducing applications based on data, these type of programs will not be sufficient. Integrating the all necessary information derived from CAD drawings with a database application will introduce a system to support control system with necessary parameters and gather processing and machine related parameters for further analysis. In this study Profile Drilling and Cutting Machine has been chosen a sample application to investigate the related data in CAD drawings to be used and developing a database system. With the application introduced in this study profile types, diemenonsions, positions of drills and the surfaces where drills are to be processed are identified and stored in database. These information is used by control system for positioning of servo motors. Since the natural structure of the drilling process, optimization will be required to reduce overall drilling time. This optimization will be done taking into consideration replacement time of drilling tools and distances between the drills. The user interface provide visualization of data derived from the drawings. The application developed by using Java programming language derives all necessary data from drawings by scanning the file. These data are then stored in MySql database.

Experimental results of closed-loop de-icing are presented using distributed optical ice sensors, temperature sensors, and resistive heaters on a stationary turbine blade part at a fixed pitch angle inside a custom icing chamber. Optical frequency domain reflectometry (OFDR) is used for direct detection of ice on the blade. Distributed temperature sensors mounted at the leading edge of the blade are used for input to the closed-loop controller. Each resistive heater is surrounded by optical ice sensors which are used to inform a heater on/off decision. Scaling up, the experiments show that using combined OFDR with temperature sensing and distributed PID control uses a total power expenditure of less than 0.5% of the rated power under light/medium icing conditions;de-icing could yield a larger percentage of power improvement and a longer turbine up-time in cold regions. The power consumption for this localized heating is only about 10% of uniformly heating the blade. Furthermore, de-icing performance of high-intensity pulsed actuation versus continuous low intensity actuation is investigated. The results show that using high intensity pulse amplitude modulation (PAM) actuation achieves better de-icing performance than continuous PID control.

In this research work, we have developed a novel lossless digital encryption system for multimedia using the orthogonal transforms for the encryption of all types of image and audio formats. In addition, we have used the symmetric properties of the orthogonal transforms to calculate the inverse of the orthogonal matrices during the execution of the decryption process to speed up the operations and reduce the cost of performance. Several classical image encryption approaches such as Discrete Cosine Transform (DCT), Hadamard Transform (HT) as well as Malakooti Transform (MT), have been proposed and used. We also have proposed, a new Malakooti-Raeisi (MR) Key Gen Algorithm that can be used to encrypt and decrypt the voice signals by applying the XOR operation over the voice signals and Key Gen Sequences. The proposed Key Gen algorithm along with above orthogonal transforms have been used to increase the levels of security as well as the robustness of our algorithm during the image encryption/decryption process. We have encrypted/decrypted voice signals and a few images with only the M-R Key Gen values to show the ability of our algorithm for the encryption/decryption of both voice signals and images with a high accuracy and a reasonable security without using any other transforms. Our algorithm has a wide range of applications such as real time voice transmission, secure voice chat, and secure video encryption.

Assessment of vascularity of conjunctiva has many diagnostic and prognostic applications, thus creation of computational methods for its fast and objective assessment is of importance. Here we provide two different methods for estimation of conjunctiva's vascularity from color digital images, with our best results showing a correlation coefficient of 0.89 between the predicted and ground truth values using a committee of artificial neural networks.

A novel clustering algorithm CMune is presented for the purpose of finding clusters of arbitrary shapes, sizes and densities in high dimensional feature spaces. It can be considered as a variation of the Shared Nearest Neighbor algorithm (SNN), in which each sample data point votes for the points in its k-nearest neighborhood. Sets of points sharing a common mutual nearest neighbor are considered as dense regions/blocks. These blocks are the seeds from which clusters may grow up. Therefore, CMune is not a point-to-point clustering algorithm. Rather, it is a block-to-block clustering technique. Much of its advantages come from this fact: Noise points and outliers correspond to blocks of small sizes, and homogeneous blocks highly overlap. The algorithm has been applied to a variety of low and high dimensional data sets with superior results over existing techniques such as K-means, DBScan, Mitosis and Spectral clustering. The quality of its results as well as its time complexity, place it at the front of these techniques.

In this study, we focused on the interoperability and authentication of medical devices in the context of telemedical systems. A recent standard called the ISO/IEEE 11073 Personal Health Device (X73-PHD) Standards addresses the device interoperability problem by defining common protocols for agent (medical device) and manager (appliance) interface. The X73-PHD standard however has not addressed security and authentication of medical devices which is important in establishing integrity of a telemedical system. We have designed and implemented a security policy within the X73-PHD standards. The policy will enable device authentication using Asymmetric-Key Cryptography and the RSA algorithm as the digital signature scheme. We used two approaches for performing the digital signatures: direct software implementation and use of embedded security modules (ESM). The two approaches were evaluated and compared in terms of execution time and memory requirement. For the standard 2048-bit RSA, ESM calculates digital signatures only 12% of the total time for the direct implementation. Moreover, analysis shows that ESM offers more security advantage such as secure storage of keys compared to using direct implementation. Interoperability with other systems was verified by testing the system with LNI Healthlink, a manager software that implements the X73-PHD standard. Lastly, security analysis was done and the system's response to common attacks on authentication systems was analyzed and several measures were implemented to protect the system against them.

Broken bar faults are common in induction cage motors and can cause a variety of problems. This is the reason why there is continuous research on techniques for prompt detection. In this work a study of the influences of the broken bar fault to the electromagnetic characteristics of the induction motor is presented, using an asynchronous cage motor and FEM analysis. To this direction two models have been created and studied: a healthy one and a model with a broken bar fault. Additionally, a new approach on the detection of the broken rotor bar fault through the electromagnetic torque monitoring is suggested.

Functional motor impairment caused by Parkinson's disease and other movement disorders is currently measured with rating scales such as the Unified Parkinson's Disease Rating Scale (UPDRS). These are typically comprised of a series of simple tasks that are visually scored by a trained rater. We developed a method to objectively quantify three upper extremity motor tasks directly with a wearable inertial sensor. Specifically, we used triaxial gyroscopes and adaptive filters to quantify how predictable and regular the signals were. We found that simply using the normalized mean squared error (NMSE) as a test statistic permitted us to distinguish between subjects with and without Parkinson's disease who were matched for age, height, and weight. A forward linear predictor based on the Kalman filter was able to attain areas under the curve (AUC) in receiver operator characteristic (ROC) curves in the range of 0.76 to 0.83. Further studies and development are warranted. This technology has the potential to more accurately measure the motor signs of Parkinson's disease. This may reduce statistical bias and variability of rating scales, which could lead to trials with fewer subjects, less cost, and shorter duration.

Abstract Unmanned aerial vehicle path following is addressed as an infinite horizon regulator problem. Using the linear quadratic regulator technique an optimal guidance law is derived. The state weighting matrix is chosen as a function of the position error and this adaptive nature of the cost function controls the UAV errors tightly. Numerical simulations are carried out for straight line and circular paths under various wind conditions. Results show considerably lower position errors as compared to an existing guidance law. Path following with winds up to half the vehicle airspeed is achieved.
