In devising an effective Hazard Identification, Risk Assessment and Determining Controls plan of a company, it is crucial to understand the factors that relate with the Inherent and Residual Risks to prioritize the implementation of controls. In this study, the Process Area, Activity, Hazard Category, Inherent Risk Score and Residual Risk Score are brought into Chi-Squared Test to identify which factors are closely associated with Inherent and Residual Risk Scores. Moreover, the factors and range of scores were assessed into categorical level through Phi coefficient analysis. Chi-Squared Test dictates that there is a close relationship between Process Area and the Inherent Risk Score while Activity is closely associated with the Residual Risk Score. Results suggest that the thermal power plant is putting more effort into activities that involve high-level risks especially those that directly affect the environment. © 2024 ACM.

Medical wastes bring probable hazards and public risks if not handled correctly, especially during the covid-19 pandemic. Waste management costs are rising due to continues devastation of covid-19 virus. Increased care and handling processes have been implemented to avoid further spreading the infection while ensuring the proper disposal. Given this, medical waste related to covid-19, including other wastes generated by medical facilities, requires delicate integration into the waste management process thru a reverse logistics network for cost-efficient collection, processing, and transport style. Using AMPL software as solving tool, this paper was designed to utilize a mixed-integer linear programming model of a reverse logistics network to improve medical waste management by identifying the total minimum cost of the waste disposal cycle from Waste generating facilities, treatment facilities, and to the disposal factory. © 2022 ACM.

COVID-19 has struck the Philippines in December 2019 and has brought great panic to the country's healthcare system. In a short period of time, the number of infected increased exponentially. Hospitals are suddenly filled with patients infected by the virus to the extent that patients wait for hours to days to be admitted. Others die on the road even before finding hospitals that can accommodate them. The hospitals and the country's healthcare system must consider this increasing demand to serve patients fully. Patient planning is commonly used in other countries to maximize bed allocation. A recent study using Bernoulli Distributed Random Variable represents the binary integer program. The approach combines the queuing model and simulation to reduce the patient dismissal rate and increase hospital output. On the other hand, this paper deals with strategic hospital bed capacity optimization using linear integer programming by considering the diverse resources, such as doctors, nurses, beds, and hospital rooms. © 2022 ACM.

The cannabis industry is facing challenges with the traceability of product standards and regulations, including lack of trust, visibility, and tracking system immutability. Blockchain technology (BCT) is a potential driver of cannabis supply chain traceability for improving the tracking system process, credibility, immutability, and decentralized application of the development process. This research focuses on exploring blockchain-based traceability in supply chain management (SCM) and developing an appropriate model. The findings of this study highlight the various elements involved in cannabis supply chain traceability. A conceptual framework for blockchain-based cannabis traceability in SCM is proposed in this paper, comprising four layers: (I) cannabis supply chain, (II) data interface, (III) traceability system, and (IV) blockchain. This approach can be integrated into the smart contract, consensus algorithm, blockchain application, and digital storage. © 2022 IEEE.

The COVID-19 pandemic has resulted in the loss of the number of enrollees at universities in many developing countries, including the Philippines. The current study integrated the Theory of Planned Behavior (TPB) and Technology Acceptance Model (TAM) to determine factors affecting intention to enroll in the online academic year among undergraduate students during the COVID-19 pandemic. 370 Filipino undergraduate students filled the online survey, which contained 71 questions. The Structural Equation Modeling (SEM) indicated that attitude, subjective norms, and perceived behavioral control had significant direct effects on perceived usefulness which subsequently led to an engagement. Regarding the perceived ease of use, SEM indicated that it had a significant direct effect on perceived performance. Furthermore, SEM also indicated that perceived performance and engagement had significant direct effects on perceived effectiveness which subsequently led to the intention to enroll. The integrated TPB and extended TAM can be extended and applied in evaluating the behavioral motives of students to enroll in the online academic year globally that are currently affected by the COVID-19 pandemic.

Delivering a high service quality under the safety protocol of COVID-19 is very essential for the sustainable airport operations. The study was intended to determine the impact of COVID-19 on Airport Service Quality (ASQ), customer satisfaction, and travel intention by utilizing a structural equation modeling (SEM) approach. A total of 517 Filipinos voluntarily answered an online questionnaire that consists of 92 questions. SEM indicated that the security check, terminal facilities, and services had significant effects on perceived value which subsequently led to customer satisfaction. In addition, travel safety measures had direct effects on Filipinos' travel intention and customer satisfaction. Interestingly, service innovations had no significant impact on customer satisfaction but directly affected travel intention. By understanding the relationship between these factors, airport management could have better decision-making while efficiently and effectively utilizing the resources in these times of uncertainty. © 2022 IEEE.

The production and delivery of ready-mixed concrete consist of several activities which expose employees to considerable safety hazards that lead to occupational accidents. The study aimed to determine the significant factors contributing to non-fatal occupational accidents in the ready-mixed concrete industry in Qatar. A total of 84 non-fatal occupational accidents were collected from a ready-mixed concrete company in Qatar. A coding scheme was developed based on available literature and the company's existing classification to analyze each accident in terms of employee, injury, and accident characteristics. Cross-tabulation analysis was used to determine the associations between categorical factors. Frequency distribution showed that regular employees aged between 25 and 44 years old were mostly involved in accidents, with hand/arm and leg/foot being mostly injured. The most common accident types were struck by an object (44%), slip, trip or fall on the same level (23.8%), and caught in between objects (17.9%). The majority of work-related accidents (71%) could be attributed to unsafe behavior, particularly due to improper use of PPE. Strong significant associations were observed between activity type and accident root cause, as well as injured body type and accident root cause. The significant factors contributing to non-fatal occupational accidents were determined through the study. The insights obtained from this study could be used by the company in designing a comprehensive safety management program with the goal of driving occupational injuries to a lower level. © 2022 IEEE.

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, employees are required to respond to changes and conform to stringent safety laws and regulations. This study aimed to analyze the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on the organizational commitment among employees in the semiconductor industry. A total of 272 employees working in the semiconductor industry answered a self-administered questionnaire that considered 51 questions, distributed online. Utilizing Structural equation modeling (SEM), the results showed that the COVID-19 was found to have a significant direct effect on employees' perceived job outcomes (PO) and a negative direct effect on job demands (JD). Moreover, PO had a positive effect on job motivation (JM) and job satisfaction (JS). Subsequently, JM presented a significant positive direct effect on JS, while JD showed a negative effect on JS. Lastly, JS showed a significant positive direct effect on organizational commitment (OC). Intriguingly, an indirect effect of PO on JS was seen. This study is one of the first studies that analyzed the organization commitment among semiconductor workers during the COVID-19 pandemic. This paper could be utilized as a foundation to enhance organizational commitment, particularly in the semiconductor industry worldwide. © 2022 IEEE.

Forest fires have a significant impact on ecosystems and human life, especially in northern Thailand, where Chiang Mai is severely affected. Traditional methods for detecting forest fires have limitations, so there is a need for advanced simulation models. This research uses Agent-Based Modeling (ABM) to develop a forest fire simulation for Chiang Mai. The methodology involves collecting historical data, performing Multiple Regression Analysis, designing the simulation, and testing it. Data from 1998 to 2021, including temperature, relative humidity, wind speed/direction, burn area, and slope, were collected from various sources. Multiple regression analysis identified wind speed as the most significant factor affecting burn area. The forest fire simulation, designed using ZF Wang's spread model and tested with AnyLogic, showed that wind direction and speed are crucial in fire spread. The simulation accurately predicted high-risk areas, helping in proactive planning and response. This study confirms that wind is a critical factor in forest fire spread, providing a valuable tool for fire districts to improve preparedness and management. Future research should focus on refining the model with localized data and integrating real-time detection to improve its accuracy and applicability.

Utilizing biomass waste as a potential resource for cellulose production holds promise in mitigating environmental *** current study aims to utilize pineapple biowaste extract in producing bacterial cellulose acetate-based membranes with magnetic nanoparticles(Fe_(3)O_(4)nanoparticles)through the fermentation and esterification process and explore its *** bacterial cellulose fibrillation used a high-pressure homogenization procedure,and membranes were developed incorporating 0.25,0.50,0.75,and 1.0 wt.%of Fe3O4 nanoparticles as magnetic nanoparticle for *** membrane characteristics were measured in terms of Scanning Electron Microscope,X-ray diffraction,Fourier Transform Infrared,Vibrating Sample Magnetometer,antibacterial activity,bacterial adhesion and dye adsorption *** results indicated that the surface morphology of membrane changes where the bacterial cellulose acetate surface looks *** crystallinity index of membrane increased from 54.34%to 68.33%,and the functional groups analysis revealed that multiple peak shifts indicated alterations in membrane functional ***,adding Fe_(3)O_(4)-NPs into membrane exhibits paramagnetic behavior,increases tensile strength to 73%,enhances activity against *** and ***,and is successful in removing bacteria from wastewater of the river to 67.4%and increases adsorption for anionic dyes like Congo Red and Acid Orange.
