Agile methodologies (AM), which emphasize iterative and incremental development with just-in-time processes and documentation, have been adopted by an increasing number of organisations. Despite this progress there is lack of clarity on their effective use after initial adoption. While there is much research on the use of various agile methods and practices, there is very limited understanding on the critical factors that impact their continued and effective usage. To address this gap, an integrated model called the Agile Usage Model (AUM) was developed, by coalescing insights from organisational level Information systems implementation, traditional innovation diffusion models, and post-adoptive agile usage. The objective of this study is to use multiple data collection methods to further evaluate and refine the AUM. The final refined conceptual model of Agile Usage is presented along with implications for research and practice.

In this study, we introduce a real-time method for tongue movement estimation based on the analysis of the surface electromyography (EMG) signals from the suprahyoid muscles, which usual function is to open the mouth and to control the position of the hyoid, the base of the tongue. Nine surface electrodes were affixed to the underside of the jaw and their signals were processed via multi-channel EMG system. The features of the EMG signals were extracted by using a root mean square (RMS) method. The dimension of the variables was reduced additionally from 108 to 10 by applying the Principal Component Analysis (PCA). The feature quantities of the reduced dimension set were associated with the tongue movements by using an artificial neural network. Results showed that the proposed method allows precise estimation of the tongue movements. For the test data set, the identification rate was greater than 97 % and the response time was less than 0.7 s. The proposed method could be implemented to facilitate novel approaches for alternative communication and control of assistive technology for supporting the independent living of people with severe quadriplegia.

The high-density blade server provides an attractive solution for the rapid increasing demand on computing. The degree of parallelism inside a blade enclosure nowadays has reach up to hundreds of cores. In such parallelism, it is necessary to accelerate communications inside a blade enclosure. However, commercial products seldom set foot in the optimization based on hardware. A hyper-node controller is proposed to provide a low overhead and high performance interconnection based on PCIe, which supports global address space, user-level communication, and efficient communication primitives. Furthermore, the efficient sharing of I/O resource is another goal of this design. The prototype of the hyper-node controller is implemented in FPGA. The testing results show the lowest latency is only 1.242us and the highest bandwidth is 3.19GB/s, which is almost 99.7% of the theoretic peak bandwidth.

This paper presents an interdisciplinary project conducted in a sophisticated approach to set up a connection between the human brain and a virtual world illustration. The main purpose of this research is to develop an interaction technique for entertainment and to investigate the virtual reality aspects for physical rehabilitation. Users could freely explore Second Life's virtual world and steer their avatar to the target point using their brain signals. The experiment was carried out on three subjects. The control can be accomplished by online processing of single-trial EEG signals recorded from EPOC headset, Emotiv, and passing the parameters to the main interface. An adaptive filter-based approach was used to reduce the eye blink distortions. Time-frequency features with combination of an ensemble LDA classifier led to a maximum 87.2% of accuracy.

Neuroengineering related interventions to small animals always carry the high risk of missled procedures, frequently causing premature death of the animal. In this paper the manufacturing process to build a physical rat skull and brain model for educational use is presented. Out of MRI images a rat brain was segmented to build a negative mould. This form was used to cast an agarose rat brain. For an accompanying rat neurocranium model, CT images were rendered to a surface mesh and printed in 3D out of PLA. The presented workflow results in a high detailed rat skull and rat brain.

In this paper, we focus on unknown parameters such as the position and attitude of the object, and describe a short-range, high-speed and noncontact sensing method for obtaining the position and attitude of the object using IR Net-Structure Proximity Sensor (“IR-NSPS”) which complements the dead region of sensory information between visual and tactile sensing. To be more precise, we propose two effective control methods which are pre-shaping and object positioning using IR-NSPS for robust grasping by adjusting the gripper configuration in response to attitude error of up to ±45 deg and the position error of up to ±80 mm of the unknown object. The methods therefore can significantly increase the speed and effectiveness of grasping objects without requiring a specific approach that depends on a vision sensor. Furthermore, to demonstrate the advantages of pre-shaping and object positioning, object grasping experiments were performed using these two operations to grasp objects placed randomly on a tabletop.
