Intrusion detection systems (IDSs) have been substantially improved in recent past. However, network attacks have become more sophisticated and increasingly complex: many of current attacks are coordinated and originated in multiple networks. To detect these attacks, IDSs need to obtain information on network events from multiple networks or administrative domains. This work demonstrates that a Distributed IDS (DIDS) can be composed of existing IDSs, improving the detection of misuses in a multiple network environment. We use a grid middleware for creating a service-based intrusion detection grid. We demonstrate through experimental results that the proposed DIDS allows the integration of heterogeneous existing IDSs and improves the detection of attacks by exploring the synergy between existing IDSs.

Without increased effort and new initiatives, the total number of road traffic deaths and injuries worldwide could rise by some 65 percent between 2000 and 2020, while deaths in low and middle income countries are expected to increase by 80 percent. Hence prevention is the best remedy for this global public health problem. For the effective prevention of road traffic injuries, accurate information on modes, patterns and trends of traffic injuries are mandatory. WHO is encouraging the establishment of such data collection systems by publishing guidelines on injury surveillance. We compared the data fields of the existing traffic injury surveillance systems of the Asian countries of Thailand, Cambodia, Sri Lanka, and Japan with WHO guidelines and examined the possibilities of compiling a global database. Although the surveillance systems of these four countries share a lot of similarities, there are variations in code choices. In spite of such variations, RTI data can be integrated into a common global data bases by applying information technology.

In this paper, we propose a powerful fully automated classification method, which is based on Gaussian-Mixture Model with Markov Random Field (MRF). First, anisotropic diffusion is performed on the MR image to improve the signal noise ratio while keeping the edge;second, skull-stripping technique is applied to separate brain/non-brain tissue;third, histogram analysis is used to get the initial classification;finally, GMM-MRF is used to get the final classification. The method has been validated on simulated and real MR images for which gold standard segmentation available. The experimental results show that the proposed method is more accurate and robust than currently available models.

Automatic discovery and composition of Web services is an important research area in Web service technology, in which the specification of Web services is a key issue. This paper presents a Web service capability description framework based on the environment ontology. This framework depicts Web services capability in two aspects: the operable environment and the environment changes resulting from behaviors of the Web service. On the basis of the framework, a requirement-driven Web service composition model has been constructed. This paper brings forward the formalization of Web service interactions with π calculus. And an automatic mechanism converting conceptual capability description to the formal process expression has been built. This kind of formal specification assists in verifying whether the composite Web service model matches the requirement.

CC-NUMA is a widely adopted and deployed architecture of high performance computers. These machines are attractive for their transparent access to local and remote memory. However, the prohibitive latency gap between local and remote access deteriorates applications' performance seriously due to memory access stalls. File system cache, especially, being shared by all processes, inevitably triggers many remote accesses. To address this problem, we suggest and implement a mechanism that uses local memory to cache remote file cache, of which the main purpose is to improve data locality. Using realistic workload on a two-node cc-NUMA machine, we show that the cost of such a mechanism is as low as 0.5%, the performance can be increased 14.3% at most, and the local hit ratio can be improved as much as 40%.
