His work has included instruction in Naval Construction and Marine Engineering at Massachusetts Institute of Technology which lead to his MS degree in 1944 and in the Advanced Management Program at Harvard Graduate School in 1964. As an Engineering Duty Officer (ED) he has served in various Navy commands including Mare Island and New York Naval Shipyards USS Philippine Sea (CVA-47) during the Korean conflict as Chief Engineer and on the Staffs of both the Commander-in-Chief and the Commander Service Force U.S. Pacific Fleet as Fleet and Force Maintenance Officer. Within the Naval Ship Systems Command and its predecessor Bureau of Ships his duties included those of Director Facilities Division Head Hull Design Branch Director Ship Design Division Assistant Chief for Design Shipbuilding and Fleet Maintenance and from 1969 to 1972 as Commander Naval Ship Systems Command. Other assignments have included Project Manager for the Navy's Fast Deployment Logistic Ship Project from 1965 to 1967 Deputy Chief of Naval Material for Logistic Support from 1967 to 1969 and Chairman Naval Material Command Shipbuilding Council which commenced upon completion of his tour as Commander Naval Ships Systems Command in 1972. On 4 September 1973 he was appointed Director of the Defense Energy Task Group (DETG) and subsequently on 15 November 1973 as Director of Energy for the Department of Defense. Upon his retirement from the naval service in November 1974 he became Assistant to the President Global Marine Development Inc. based in Newport Beach Calif. A former President of ASNE from 1970 to 1971 he is currently the Vice-President of the Society of Naval Architects and Marine Engineers. In addition he is a member of the honorary engineering society Sigma Xi and listed among those named in “Who's Who in America.”

作者: MARCY, HT The Honorable H. Tyler (“Ty”) Marcy:was born in 1918 in Rochester New York but moved to Baltimore Maryland at an early age where he attended public schools. He is a graduate of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology from which he received both his BS and MS degrees in Electrical Engineering. Subsequent to receiving the latter degree in 1941 he designed and developed gun control systems in the MIT Servomechanism Laboratory until 1946 when he became Associate Director Special Projects Department M. W. Kellogg Company and worked on rocket engine development missile controls and analog air defense systems. In 1951 Mr. Marcy left Kellogg Company to join the IBM Corporation where he remained until 1972 and was employed in various engineering and managerial positions. At IBM his first assignment concerned the bomb/navigational system for the B-52 aircraft. He then moved into commercial development of data processing machines and peripheral devices subsequently being placed in a series of technical management positions which included Assistant Manager of Product Development Corporate Headquarters New York (1956) Manager Poughkeepsie N.Y. Laboratory (1957) Vice-President General Products Division (1962) Vice-President Systems Development Division (1965) and Director of Technology Corporate Headquarters Armonk N. Y. (1968). His last position was held until 1972 when he left IBM to do private consulting work in engineering management technology and program review. In October 1974 he was appointed by the President to his present office as Assistant Secretary of the Navy for Research and Development. Mr. Marcy has been a member of the Instrument Society of America since 1963 serving as its President from 1971 until 1974. In 1967 he became a Fellow of the Institute of Electrical and Electronic Engineers (IEEE) for his leadership in feedback control and for his significant contribution to the management of technical enterprise. Richard Gauthey USN graduated from Cornell University in 1955 with a Bachelor of Mechanical Engineering degree and entered the U.S. Navy through the NROTC program. Following three tours of sea duty he attended the University of California at Berkeley where he earned his Master of Science degree. From 1963 to 1965 he was Project Officer for Aircraft Carriers and Amphibious Ships in the Design Division BUSHIPS. The succeeding three years he was Assistant Repair Superintendent for Surface Ships at the Pearl Harbor Naval Shipyard. After attending the Naval War College he was Maintenance Officer COMINELANT Staff prior to his present assignment as Director Ship Research and Technology Division NAVSHIPS where he has been since 1971. He is a member of both ASNE and SNAME. Joseph P. DeTolla a native of Philadelphia Pa. received his BS degree in Mechanical Engineering from Drexel University in 1969. He began his career with the U.S. Navy in 1965 as a Mechanical Engineering Trainee in the Philidelphia Naval Shipyard Design Division under the BUSHIPS Cooperative Education Training Program. In 1911 he joined NAVSEC as a Mechanical Engineer in the Fluid Systems Branch. For the past two years he has primarily been involved in conducting alternative auxiliary heating system “tradeoff” studies and in the design of total energy/waste heat recovery systems for the PF 109 Class Sea Control Ship DG/AEGIS and AO 177 Class. He is a registered Professional Engineer in the District of Columbia a member of ASE ASME and SNAME and a candidate for the Master of Engineering Administration degree at The George Washington University.

作者: CALOGERO, R MCMANUS, D Robert Calogero graduated from the University of Maryland with a Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering in February 1965. He entered the Magnetic Defense Section of Propulsion Power and Auxiliary Systems Division of the Naval Ship Engineering Center where he had previously served as a summer student engineering aid. In December 1968 he transferred to the Maintenance Management Branch of NAVSHIPS where he assumed responsibility as Manager of the Operational Sequencing System. Calogero is presently in the Engineering Administration Program offered at the George Washington University and is a member of the Association of Senior Engineers of the Naval Ships Systems Command. Donald McManus graduated from the Maine Maritime Academy in 1954 and received his Bachelor of Marine Science Degree Commission in the U. S. Naval Reserve and a USCG Marine Engineer's license. After graduation he sailed as a licensed engineer aboard steam and diesel powered tankers and “dry cargo” vessels engaged in worldwide commercial trade. Upon release from active duty in 1958 he was employed for the next eight and one-half years at the Sun Shipbuilding and Drydock Co. Chester Pa. in various engineering capacities. McManus came to the Naval Ship Engineering Center in December 1966 and is presently employed as a Marine Engineer in the Control Section of Machinery Arrangement and Controls Branch. He is a member of the Association of Senior Engineers of the Naval Ship Systems Command.

David Berg a native of Michigan received his Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering from the Michigan Technological University in 1951 after which he began his career with the Bureau of Ships in the Machinery Design Branch on noise shock and vibration problems. He was project engineer for the axial flow pumpjet development on USS Witek (DD848) and USS Glover (AGDE1) and received his Master of Engineering Degree in Naval Architecture in 1964 from the University of California Berkeley. Mr. Berg is currently acting head of the Ship Performance and Trials Section of the Propulsion Systems Analysis Branch in the Naval Ship Engineering Center. He received the Meritorious Civilian Service Award in 1962 for contributions to the design of the USS Thresher (SSN593) and was awarded the Superior Performance Award for Outstanding Performance in 1966. Hugh Marron a native of Pennsylvania received his Bachelor of Science Degree in Civil Engineering from the Pennsylvania State University in 1939. Upon graduation he was employed for one year with the Pennsylvania Department of Highways as a construction engineer. In July 1940 he became a Marine Engineer at the Philadelphia Naval Shipyard where after a period of apprenticeship and special training in this new field he was assigned to the Machinery Scientific Group of the Design Division. Then in October 1945 he was transferred to the Design Division of the Bureau of Ships. Mr. Marron is now a Project Coordinator in the Propulsion Power and Auxiliary Systems Division of the Naval Ship Engineering Center. Walter S. Jones a native of Virginia graduated from the George Washington University with a BME in June 1958. From July of that year through June 1965 he served with the Machinery Design Branch of the Bureau of Ships where he was Project Engineer for the Hydroneu-matic Ram Jet and Water jet Propulsion Systems. Mr. Jones is currently the Machinery Coordinator for the Computer Aided Ship Design Program in the Naval Ship Engineering Center.

He has been awarded the American Defense Service Medal the American Campaign Medal World War II Victory Medal Navy Occupation Service Medal European Clasp the National Defense Service Medal. Member of the American Society of Naval Engineers American Society of Naval Architects and Marine Engineers the Instituteo Panamerico de Engenieria Naval Tau Beta Pi and Sigma Xi. Mr. Joseph A. Cestone has been associated with the Deep Submergence Systems Project since its inception and received an appointment as Head of the Sensors-Navigation Ship Control Branch in 1966. In this capacity he is responsible for design specifications and procurement of sensor devices navigation systems and control equipment for the undersea submersibles and habitats pertaining to the Deep Submergence Program.

作者: White, R.M. Vance, G.P. CDR Roderick M. White USCG was graduated from the United States Coast Guard Academy in 1950. He was awarded a Bachelor of Science Degree and was commissioned in the United States Coast Guard. During the period from 1950 to 1953 the author served on a weather patrol ship first as a deck officer and then later gained qualification in engineering. During the first part of 1953 he attended Merchant Marine Safety School and was assigned to Merchant Marine Inspection in Boston for a relatively brief period. From 1953 to 1956 he studied Naval Architecture and Marine Engineering at Massachusetts Institute of Technology. An M.I.T. Fellowship was awarded to him and as a result he studied shipbuilding in Copenhagen Denmark during the summer of 1955. In June 1956 he was awarded full membership in the Society of the Sigma Xi and was graduated with the degree of Naval Engineer. For a period following graduation from M.I.T. he worked in the Production Department of the United States Coast Guard Yard in Curtis May Maryland. The first portion of the time was spent as “Ship Superintendent” for ship repair the latter portion of the time he was in charge of construction of 95-foot patrol boats. From 1957 to 1959 the author served as Engineer Officer of the U. S. Coast Guard Icebreaker WESTWIND. During that time he made four extended ice cruises (in the Antarctic as well as the Arctic). He also gained qualification as an officer-of-the-deck which enabled him to handle the ship in ice on many occasions. In 1959 Lieutenant Commander White commenced a tour of duty as a member of the faculty of the Department of Applied Science and Engineering at the United States Coast Guard Academy. In 1962 he was appointed to permanent commissioned teaching staff. He has taught Naval Architecture and most of the undergraduate courses in Applied Science. He began his career with the Bureau of Ships as a Naval Architect in the Hull Design Training Program in September 1952. Kinney has served as a Project Coordinator in the Machinery Systems Division and is currently Head of the Environmental Pollution Control Branch at the Naval Ship Engineering Center. He is a member of several committees including the Department of Defense Environmental Pollution Control Committee and the Interagency Committee on Vessel Pollution Standards. Alexander Constant graduated from Pennsylvania Military College in June 1960 with a B.S. in Civil Engineering. After two years with the U.S. Forest Services working as a Civil Sanitary Engineer designing recreational facilities Constant joined the Vermont Water Resources Department as a Project Engineer. For the past five years he has been associated with the Naval Ship Engineering Center Piping System Branch responsible for design and development of systems and equipment to abate and control shipboard generated waste. 作者: CARSON, BH Bernard H. Carson received a Ph.D. degree in Aeuronautical Engineering in 1965 from Pennsylvania State University where he also obtained B.S. and M.S. degrees. He currently holds the chair of Naval Air Systems Command Research Professor in the Aerospace Engineering Department at the U. S. Naval Academy having previously served as Department Chairman. His present interest is focused on the interrelationship between marine and aerospace technologies. His previous experience includes teaching industrial research and a tour of duty as an Air Force Pilot. He is a member of Sigma Xi American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics and serves on the AIAA Committee for Marine Systems and Technologies. Robert H. Krida graduated from Haverford High School Haverford Penn-sylvania 1938 received a B.S. in Physics from Haverford College in 1947 and was a Naval Officer in World War II and is now a Captain in the Naval Reserve. He graduated from the Industrial College of the Armed Forces in 1964 and is at present the Head Carrier Aviation Systems Branch Naval Air Systems Command Department of the Navy. He is a member of the Naval Architects and Marine Engineers Society the Society of Naval Weapons Scientists and Engineers and the American Ordnance Association.
