With the growth of hardware and software resources, the management of virtual machine system is becoming more and more difficult. It has become a very difficult problem that how to schedule the system resource in real time and improve the service performance of resource in a multiple virtual machine system. In order to solve this problem, the authors propose a real-time scheduling mechanism of resource for multiple virtual machine system. In the real-time scheduling mechanism of resource, the authors first describe the architecture of multiple virtual machine system. Then, the authors present a real-time scheduling strategy of resource. In order to justify the feasibility and the availability of this resource scheduling mechanism, a series of experiments have been done. The results show that it is feasible to schedule the system resources for tasks in multiple virtual machine system.

This paper propose a method for sentence ordering in multi-doucument summarization task, which combine support vector machine (SVM) and Grey Model(GM). Firstly, the method train the SVM with sentences of source documents and predict sentences sequence of summary as primary dataset. Secondly, using Grey Model to process the primary dataset, and achieve the final sequence of summary sentences. Experiments on 100 summ1aries showed this method provide a much higher precision than probabilistic model in sentence ordering task. © 2010 IEEE.

Inverted index is the most popular index structure in search engine. Applying index compression can reduce storage space on inverted index, and improve the search performance. In this paper, we achieve comprehensive performance evaluation of three stateof-the-art index compression schemes on open source information retrieval system-Lucene. We focus on the compression and storage of document ID, frequency and position information of Lucene word-level inverted index. The main work includes: 1) the impact of ifthen-else construction of decompression process on performance in Java environment;2) the algorithm's compression ratio on the different scale of data;3) the performance comparison of term and phrase search;4) whether interleaving index file has remarkable discrepancies in compression ratio and decompression speed. The experiment result and analysis is given in detail.

The reliability of service is related to the kind and the number of service resources in grid. The kind and the number of service resources often change, so the service reliability is variable. In this paper, we propose a reliability measurement model for service in grid, which is based on the dynamic characteristic of service resource. In this model, the dynamic state of service is divided into a series of relative stabilized states, and the difference of each relative stabilized state denotes a change of the service resource in the kind or the number, we propose three index values, namely the reliability of service, the mathematical expectation of reliability and the mean square deviation of reliability, to measure the reliability quality of service. In order to show the feasibility and the availability of this method, a case study is described. The results show that it is feasible and efficient to measure the reliability of service in grid. © 2009 IEEE.

Power consumption is becoming a critical and annoying problem to data centers (DCs). Higher power consumption results in more heat dissipation, cooling costs and makes servers more prone to failures. Various excellent workload and application-specific dynamic voltage/frequency scaling (DVS/DFS) algorithms have been proposed and deployed in many computing systems for power reduction and system reliabilities. However, there also exist some disadvantages associated with individual DVS/DFS algorithms when they are ported to DCs, where virtualization technologies and emerging multi-core processors are widely deployed. In this paper, we discuss several aspects and characteristics of DVS/DFS algorithms, e.g. performance, overheads, feasibility and usability in data centers. This paper also presents a discussion on the challenges of power reduction in large data centers.

The algebra-based and ontology-based information retrieval model are investigated in this paper, from which we know the two reinforce each other to some extent. Based on this observation, an integrated method for information retrieval is presented by taking the advantage of these two models. Then, an effective matching algorithm for pairing of different characteristic words is presented to improve the similarity calculating between the query and text. The experimental results show that, compared with the algebra-based and ontology-based models, the proposed method obviously gets a better precision and recall. © 2008 IEEE.

It is time-consuming and expensive to design and develop a real time, large scale, and high fidelity interactive cloth simulation system, especially for an online virtual fitting room. In this paper, a new body modeling algorithm for cloth simulation is introduced and the key techniques for GOVFiR, a grid computing based Online Virtual Fitting Room, are discussed and a hierarchical architecture of GOVFiR is proposed. The grid infrastructure provides massive computing powers in order to obtain real-time and high fidelity simulation. The experimental results of GOVFiR show that GOVFiR can provide amazing online virtual fitting experiences, including garments selection and visualization of the garments in one's body. Moreover, GOVFiR has also obtained good performance such as contact computation speedup, strong robustness and scalability © 2008 IEEE.

This paper proposes a novel parallel data transfer mechanism to improve the performance of data transfer in grid environment. It utilizes the servers distributed in grid system and selects some of them as the proxy servers. It introduces the method of how to select the proxy server. Then data are divided into several parts and sent through the selected proxy servers with different physical links. By that, it can effectively improve the performance of data transfer.
