Data collection is the fundamental and important function in wireless sensor networks. Due to the restriction of node power, how to improve the node's energy efficiency and prolong the network lifetime is an important issue in practical network deployment. In this paper, we propose the RS-LPL - Relative Synchronized Low-Power Listening which uses the relative time synchronization to improve the traditional low power listening scheme, and realize the RS-LPL in Collection Tree Protocol to enhance the network energy efficiency and prolong the network lifetime. The experiment results in a network consisted of Telosb mote shows that RS-LPL is more energy efficiency than traditional low power listening. © 2010 IEEE.

Computer science is a practical discipline. It is always a great challenge to evaluate students' computer practice using computer-aided means for large scale students. We always need to address problems such as suspected plagiarism and deviation of the overall difficulty factor. In this paper, a multi-dimensional assessment model is designed for CS courses based on the detailed practice processing data in an E-learning system. The model comprehensively evaluates the students' learning process and results in three aspects of correctness, originality, and quality detection. Besides, the teacher can easily participate in the assessment according to their needs. The correctness is an essential requirement, and the originality is based on the clustering results of students' behaviors after clone detection to curb homework plagiarism. SonarQube is used to detect code quality and put forward higher requirements for codes. Manual participation intelligence has improved the flexibility and applicability of the model to a certain extent. We applied this model on the EduCoder online education platform and carried out a comprehensive analysis of 485 students in the Parallel Programming Principles and Practice Class of Huazhong University of Science and technology. Experiment results confirm the distinction, rationality, and fairness of the model in assessing student performance. It not only gives students a credible, comprehensive score in large-scale online practical programming courses but also gives teachers and students corresponding suggestions based on the evaluation results. Furthermore, the model can be extended to other online education platforms. © 2020 ACM.

Peers in multiple P2P applications execute overlapped operations with different implementation, like neighbour management, resource publish/lookup, delay investigation, which leads to poor interoperability and unnecessary network load. Peers contribute their resources only when they stay in same application. We propose a P2P middleware, called Ripple, to accomplish common functions in a layered architecture. Ripple manages all peers running various applications in a uniform substrate overlay network. The substrate overlay is designed with a hybrid topology. This hybrid topology does not aim at only a particular type of applications, but also enables the flexibility for various applications. Our work is an attempt to address common needs of P2P applications, which may simplify the development and improve the performance of P2P networks, as well as mitigate the sampling stress to physical networks. © 2008 IEEE.

It is time-consuming and expensive to design and develop a real time, large scale, and high fidelity interactive cloth simulation system, especially for an online virtual fitting room. In this paper, a new body modeling algorithm for cloth simulation is introduced and the key techniques for GOVFiR, a grid computing based Online Virtual Fitting Room, are discussed and a hierarchical architecture of GOVFiR is proposed. The grid infrastructure provides massive computing powers in order to obtain real-time and high fidelity simulation. The experimental results of GOVFiR show that GOVFiR can provide amazing online virtual fitting experiences, including garments selection and visualization of the garments in one's body. Moreover, GOVFiR has also obtained good performance such as contact computation speedup, strong robustness and scalab.lity © 2008 IEEE.

Exploits sequencing is a typical way by which an attacker breaks into a network. In such a scenario, each exploit lays as an atomic proposition for subsequent exploits. An attack path is seen as a succession of exploits which take an attacker right to his/her final goal. The set of all possible attack paths form an attack graph. Researchers have proposed a multitude of techniques to generate attack graph which grows exponentially in the size of the network. Hence it is preferable to optimize the choice of solutions which avoid the cost of scalab.lity and cumbersome. In this paper, we propose a comprehensive approach to network vulnerability analysis by ranking access Petri net graph and utilizing a penetration tester's perspective of maximal level of access possible on a host. Our approach has the following benefits: it provides a simple model in which an analyst can work, its algorithmic complexity is polynomial in the size of the network, and has the ability of scaling well to large size networks. Nevertheless, it has some drawback as in place of all possible attack paths, we seek only good attack paths. An analyst may make suboptimal choices when repairing the network. © 2011 IEEE.

Asynchronous Graph Neural Network (AGNN) has attracted much research attention because it enables faster convergence speed than the synchronous GNN. However, existing software/hardware solutions suffer from redundant computation overhead and excessive off-chip communications for AGNN due to irregular state propagations along the dependency chains between vertices. This paper proposes a chain-driven asynchronous accelerator, CDA-GNN, for efficient AGNN inference. Specifically, CDA-GNN proposes a chain-driven asynchronous execution approach into novel accelerator design to regularize the vertex state propagations for fewer redundant computations and off-chip communications and also designs a chain-aware data caching method to improve data locality for AGNN. We have implemented and evaluated CDA-GNN on a Xilinx Alveo U280 FPGA card. Compared with the cutting-edge software solutions (i.e., Dorylus and AMP) and hardware solutions (i.e., BlockGNN and FlowGNN), CDA-GNN improves the performance of AGNN inference by an average of 1,173x, 182.4x, 10.2x, and 7.9x and saves energy by 2,241x, 242.2x, 12.4x, and 8.9x, respectively. © 2024 Copyright is held by the owner/author(s). Authorization mechanism is an effective technique of access control. In this paper, we construct a multidimensional authorization space for RSM with the guidance of the methodology of RSM design. This authorization space permits both positive and negative authorizations and supports exceptions and strong enforcement as well as the temporal constraints on the authorizations. For the sake of efficiency and convenience we extend the representation of object in GRANT command. © 2007 IEEE.

In this paper, we address the problem of allocating disk resources to guarantee specified latency and throughput targets of VMs while keeping efficient disk I/O. Accordingly, we present two-level scheduling framework, namely Flubber, in Xen-based hosting platform that decouples latency and throughput allocation. The high-level throughput control regulates the pending requests from the VMs, in order to meet the throughput requirements of different VMs and ensure isolation. Meanwhile, the low-level latency control, by the virtue of the batch and delay EDF mechanism, reorders all pending requests from VMs based on the their deadlines, and batches them to the disk device considering the locality of accesses across VMs. We have implemented Flubber with intensive evaluations on Xen-based host. The results show that Flubber can simultaneously meet the different service requirements of VMs while improving the efficiency of the physical disk. In contrast to CFQ, besides that Flubber achieves the desired QoS of each VM, Flubber speeds up the sequential and random read by 17% and 25% due to the efficient physical disk utilization. © 2012 IEEE.

In virtualization environments, resources are shared across multiple virtual machines(VMs), which results in contentions and even conflicting under heavily loaded or consolidated situations. In order to accommodate as many as service instances while still delivering performance guarantees, resource allocation should be optimized in a just adequate manner such that less resources will be utilized for a specific performance requirement. To achieve this goal, in this paper we propose a try-before-buy approach for allocating contending resources. This approach firstly does a try of minor resource allocation to find the performance feedback and search for the optimal amount of resource that should be allocated to the target virtual machine. This approach does not require a highly accurate performance model in a virtualized system where workloads usually change frequently with time in some intervals. Experiments on a Xen based virtualized environment are conducted and evaluated for its effectiveness. The results show that the proposed approach utilizes less CPU and memory resources to achieve the same performance goals compared to default Xen configuration with over-provisioning.

Security aware parallel and independent job scheduling in grid computing environments based on adaptive job replication

In grid environment, jobs may be scheduled to multiple machines across different administrative domains. However, grid security is a main hurdle to make the job scheduling decision secure, reliable and fault tolerant. A security-aware parallel and independent job scheduling algorithm in grid computing environment based on adaptive job replications was proposed. In risky and failure-prone grids, it is robust due to its adaptive job replications and rescheduling mechanism. Simulation results generated based on the Simgrid package show that a higher scheduling success of 97% rate and higher grid resource utilization of 74% can be achieved. The performance of our algorithm is better than non-security-aware scheduling algorithms based on fixed-number job replications and it is fault tolerant and scalab.e. © 2011 ACADEMY PUBLISHER.
