RSM and SLN: Transformation, normalization and cooperation

The Resource Space Model RSM and Semantic Link Network SLN are models of future interconnection environment, and the combination of them forms a rich semantic layer for the next-generation web. This paper investigates the combination between RSM and SLN. The methods of the transformation between RSM and SLN are proposed. From the perspective of transformation, the correlations between the normal forms of RSM and SLN are investigated. The investigations show that although RSM and SLN are independently proposed, they are well-cooperated models for the future Semantic Web and Knowledge Web. © Springer-Verlag Berlin Heidelberg 2005.

Peer-to-Peer media streaming service has gained tremendous momentum in recent years. However, a number of challenges in Peer-to-Peer media streaming have not been addressed. In this paper, we propose a peer-to-peer substrate for supplying on-demand media streaming service, called Honeycomb, which mainly addresses on the key technical issue of: constructing a locality-aware P2P overlay network with high scalab.lity and manageability. Honeycomb can fully utilize the locality of underlying physical network so that the bandwidth consumption used for the overlay maintenance can be effectively saved and the QoS requirements for delivering media content can be easily satisfied. © Springer-Verlag Berlin Heidelberg 2004.

With the rapid development of information technology, dramatic changes have been taken place in the fundamental ways that people acquire and disseminate knowledge. Various e-Learning systems have been designed to help people take full advantage of the benefit brought by the technology. The newly emerged Peer to Peer (P2P) and grid computing will serve as the key driven forces to bring revolutionary impact on the future society. This paper evaluates the potential contribution of the P2P and grid technology into the e-Learning system and introduces a novel P2P based e-Learning environment, called APPLE. With the help of Gnutella-like P2P network, APPLE provides live broadcasting services to share services of education resources. We build a virtual classroom service based on ***, which exposes the service as a grid service that could be accessed by all the users among the grid. © Springer-Verlag Berlin Heidelberg 2004.

In this paper, we present a detail study about the immunization of viruses in Peer-to-Peer networks exhibiting power-law degree distributions. By comparing two different immunization strategies (randomized and degree-based), we conclude that it is efficient to immunize the highly connected nodes in order to eradicate viruses from the network. Furthermore, we propose an efficient updating algorithm for global virus database according to the degree-based immunization strategy. © Springer-Verlag 2004.

Virtualisation is a prevalent technology in current computing. Among the many aspects of virtualisation, it can be employed to reduce hardware costs by server consolidation, implement "green computing" by reducing power consumption and as an underpinning process for cloud computing enabling the creation of a range of virtual networks and virtual supercomputers. This paper presents performance measurements for a cloning system known as iVIC that has been developed in Beihang University, China. In an extension to earlier work, it focuses on the factors the limit the number of clones that can be successfully started. IVIC creates clusters of virtual computers that can communicate with each other through virtual switch mechanisms. The virtual switches can also allow communication between the clone environment and the physical world. Testing has been undertaken to identify the limiting factors for creating and starting numbers of clone machines, measure the power consumption of the physical system and the computational performance capability of the clones. © 2012 IEEE.

Monitor substation equipment temperature is one of the most important factors for power systems to ensure safe transmission of electricity. Traditional methods for monitoring the substation temperature shows many disadvantages such as low accuracy, heavy workload, lack of real-time, etc. Therefore, a low cost, high accuracy and automatic method is needed for power system. This paper presents a temperature monitor system for substation with ZigBee connectivity. Node hardware, network protocol and software on PC were presented. Finally, the implementation performance shows the sensor nodes have an automatic, small size, low power consumption, and network stability. © 2008 IEEE.

Hypergraph Neural Network (HyperGNN) has emerged as a potent methodology for dissecting intricate multilateral connections among various entities. Current software/hardware solutions leverage a sequential execution model that relies on hyperedge and vertex indices for conducting standard matrix operations for HyperGNN inference. Yet, they are impeded by the dual challenges of redundant computation and irregular memory access overheads. This is primarily due to the frequent and repetitive access and updating of a number of feature vectors corresponding to the same hyperedges and vertices. To address these challenges, we propose the first redundancy-aware accelerator, RAHP, which enables high performance execution of HyperGNN inference. Specifically, we present a redundancy-aware asynchronous execution approach into the accelerator design for HyperGNN to reduce redundant computations and off-chip memory accesses. To unveil opportunities for data reuse and unlock the parallelism that existing HyperGNN solutions fail to capture, it prioritizes vertices with the highest degree as roots, prefetching other vertices along the hypergraph structure to capture the common vertices among multiple hyperedges, and synchronizing the computations of hyperedges and vertices in real-time. By such means, this facilitates the concurrent processing of relevant hyperedge and vertex computations of the common vertices along the hypergraph topology, resulting in smaller redundant computations overhead. Furthermore, by efficiently caching intermediate results of the common vertices, it curtails memory traffic and off-chip communications. To fully harness the performance potential of our proposed approach in the accelerator, RAHP incorporates a topology-driven data loading mechanism to minimize off-chip memory accesses on the fly. Power consumption is becoming a critical and annoying problem to data centers (DCs). Higher power consumption results in more heat dissipation, cooling costs and makes servers more prone to failures. Various excellent workload and application-specific dynamic voltage/frequency scaling (DVS/DFS) algorithms have been proposed and deployed in many computing systems for power reduction and system reliabilities. However, there also exist some disadvantages associated with individual DVS/DFS algorithms when they are ported to DCs, where virtualization technologies and emerging multi-core processors are widely deployed. In this paper, we discuss several aspects and characteristics of DVS/DFS algorithms, e.g. performance, overheads, feasibility and usability in data centers. This paper also presents a discussion on the challenges of power reduction in large data centers.

In a grid workflow, data transfer scheme plays a key role on its performance. In most grid projects, data is transferred between source and destination directly in the traditional way, without considering the status of network. In this paper, we present a data transfer scheme of grid workflow based on weighted directed graph. The scheme selects data transfer model according to the job's data processing rate. Based on the different bandwidths between grid nodes, it builds a weighted directed graph to select a best transfer path. Simulation results show that the scheme can effectively improve the performance of grid workflows. © 2006 IEEE.

Page migration has long been adopted in hybrid memory systems comprising dynamic random access memory (DRAM) and non-volatile memories (NVMs), to improve the system performance and energy efficiency. However, page migration introduces some side effects, such as more translation lookaside buffer (TLB) misses, breaking memory contiguity, and extra memory accesses due to page table updating. In this paper, we propose superpage-friendly page table called SuperPT to reduce the performance overhead of serving TLB misses. By leveraging a virtual hashed page table and a hybrid DRAM allocator, SuperPT performs address translations in a flexible and efficient way while still remaining the contiguity within the migrated pages. © 2020, Springer Nature Singapore Pte Ltd.
