A series of problems arises with the emergence and fast development of grid. Among all the problems, one of them is how to smoothly connect heterogeneous grid platforms. There are a number of ways to solve this problem and the relatively more efficient one is using ontology. Based on this method, we focus on alleviating semantic inconsistency of various platforms and designing a novel ontology. This ontology is depicted by Resource Description Framework (RDF) and transacted by adapters. Finally, we test our method and analyze its performance. © 2007 IEEE.

Peer-to-Peer (P2P) networks have been shown to be a promising approach to provide instant voice services over the Internet for its potential high scalab.lity. However, for one paired peers, how to efficiently transmit voice data among peers in such networks remains a major challenge. Hereby this paper proposed some hybrid routing schemes for P2P transmitting system, which include improved random detection algorithm, delay binary tree search algorithm, AS-aware discovery algorithm. With the help of these novel routing schemes, we can choose the correct algorithm to transfer media data, in small size but low delay, among peers in P2P network. Simulations show that these new routing strategies achieve obvious effect. © 2008 ACM.

Multimedia streaming and video on demand (VoD) services are among those hottest applications over the Internet. Traditional client/server pattern is stumbled due to the lack of scalab.lity and limitation of service capacity. Peer-to-Peer paradigm has been introduced to solve these issues. The key idea is that peers not only receive multimedia stream but also serve multimedia data to others. In this paper, we present a novel scheme that builds a multimedia streaming and caching service on a distributed hash table (DHT) based overlay. We adopt DHT to establish a decentralized caching service. The location information of cached segments is distributed among different peers and the information about segments from the same video is organized into an application-level multicast group. We also propose a cache replace algorithm on each peer. In our simulation, our design achieves good scalab.lity with a low service reject rate. Besides, good load balance is also achieved as well as desired quality-of-service.

In this paper we present GPE4CGSP, which targets the interoperability between GPE (grid Programming Environment) and CGSP (Chinagrid Support Platform). The web services technique and gridftp data transfer protocol are used to implement the interoperation between GPE and CGSP. grid application can be deployed to CGSP through GPE. Without modification, GPE client can freely visit and use the resources in CGSP. Typically, end users can submit jobs to CGSP through GPE application client. GPE4CGSP provides one feasible way for the interoperability of heterogeneous grid infrastructures. The evaluation proves that the job execution time of GPE4CGSP is less than that of GPE4GTK. © 2007 ACM.

Authorization mechanism is an effective technique of access control. In this paper, we construct a multidimensional authorization space for RSM with the guidance of the methodology of RSM design. This authorization space permits both positive and negative authorizations and supports exceptions and strong enforcement as well as the temporal constraints on the authorizations. For the sake of efficiency and convenience we extend the representation of object in GRANT command. © 2007 IEEE.

With the development of grid technology, grid gains more popularity that ever and a variety of grid middlewares come into being. However, most of grid middlewares are developed by their own, and it's not easy to interoperate these grid platforms. Existing grid interoperability projects mainly resorts to case-by-case mechanism, which is simple but of poor scalab.lity. Job management is the core and the most complex components of grid system. To realize the interoperability of heterogeneous grids, the interoperation of heterogeneous job managements must be addressed In the paper, a plugin based job interoperation mechanism for heterogeneous grid systems, called PBJIM, is proposed, which is based on the idea of virtualization and plug-in *** are two well-established grid systems in China,Chinagrid and China National grid, and they are built with two different grid middlewares, CGSP and VEGA. Via PBJIM, the interoperation of job management of these two grid systems is achieved.

This paper proposes a grid-based Distributed Simulation Platform (GDSP). It is designed to break the limitation of legacy simulation supporting platform and to meet new requirements from large-scale, distributed, and complicated systems. Simulation services are encapsulated by using web services technology, and they are basic elements of GDSP. With grid technology, GDSP enables users to share, access, and operate remote resource transparently. It is also easier to organize and manage simulation resources. GDSP improves the capability of fault tolerance and provides mechanism of using simulation resources securely. The research result shows that through this management mechanism, multiple users can share and monitor RTI resources, and manage the simulation collab.ratively and effectively. At the same time, the impact on real time of RTI caused by the system is minimum.

VCA (virtual client access) based grid information integration strategy is proposed in this paper that brings forward one efficient application framework with loosely coupled architecture. It encapsulates the virtual clients that are realized based on the API of the information systems as grid services to enable the grid can access the information systems as real client. VCA mode can be combined with local access control and task management seamlessly, and solve the resource conflicts between grid and local users so as to support the information sharing and cooperation widely and efficiently. The experiment shows that VCA modes can support the information sharing and cooperation widely and efficiently.

A locality-aware overlay network for high performance computing, GTapestry, is proposed in this paper. GTapestry assembles physically neighboring nodes in the Internet into self-organized groups. The routing mechanism of GTapestry is divided into inter-group routing, used by groups that communicate with others through their leaders, and intra-group routing, used by group members to communicate with each other directly. Compared with Tapestry, the performance of GTapestry, including the routing efficiency and the maintenance cost for stability, is evaluated in theory and via simulation. It indicates that GTapestry can be the substrate of peer-to-peer based HPC systems for applications with task-level parallelism. © 2006 IEEE.
