Multimedia streaming and video on demand (VoD) services are among those hottest applications over the Internet. Traditional client/server pattern is stumbled due to the lack of scalab.lity and limitation of service capacity. Peer-to-Peer paradigm has been introduced to solve these issues. The key idea is that peers not only receive multimedia stream but also serve multimedia data to others. In this paper, we present a novel scheme that builds a multimedia streaming and caching service on a distributed hash table (DHT) based overlay. We adopt DHT to establish a decentralized caching service. The location information of cached segments is distributed among different peers and the information about segments from the same video is organized into an application-level multicast group. We also propose a cache replace algorithm on each peer. In our simulation, our design achieves good scalab.lity with a low service reject rate. Besides, good load balance is also achieved as well as desired quality-of-service.

This paper proposes a grid-based Distributed Simulation Platform (GDSP). It is designed to break the limitation of legacy simulation supporting platform and to meet new requirements from large-scale, distributed, and complicated systems. Simulation services are encapsulated by using web services technology, and they are basic elements of GDSP. With gridtechnology, GDSP enables users to share, access, and operate remote resource transparently. It is also easier to organize and manage simulation resources. GDSP improves the capability of fault tolerance and provides mechanism of using simulation resources securely. The research result shows that through this management mechanism, multiple users can share and monitor RTI resources, and manage the simulation collab.ratively and effectively. At the same time, the impact on real time of RTI caused by the system is minimum.

VCA (virtual client access) based grid information integration strategy is proposed in this paper that brings forward one efficient application framework with loosely coupled architecture. It encapsulates the virtual clients that are realized based on the API of the information systems as gridservices to enable the grid can access the information systems as real client. VCA mode can be combined with local access control and task management seamlessly, and solve the resource conflicts between grid and local users so as to support the information sharing and cooperation widely and efficiently. The experiment shows that VCA modes can support the information sharing and cooperation widely and efficiently.
