This study aims to investigate the pattern of traffic accidents in Skudai, Johor. Due to the lack of comprehensive public transportation development in Skudai area, the number of registered vehicles have increased dramatically, also the number of traffic accidents. The data is provided via Ibu Pejabat Polis Daerah Johor Bahru (Utara), Skudai from 2015 to 2019. data scopes were divided into number of daily accidents, number of daily fatal accidents, and number of daily fatal victims. data visualization and descriptive statistics were used to analyse the pattern and summarization of the daily accidents. Thus, estimating accident parameters such as daily accident rate, daily accident hazard level, daily fatal accident probability, and daily fatal victim rates are critical for traffic management. Three stochastic models are used to estimate those parameters: the Generalized Poisson (GP) distribution, the Generalized Poisson-Quasi Binomial (GPQB) distribution, and the Generalized Poisson-Generalized Poisson (GPGP) distribution. The goodness-of-fit test was used to evaluate if the models were statistically significant fit to the data. The findings demonstrate that while the general accident rate and accident hazard level increased gradually, the likelihood of fatal accidents and the rate of fatal victims dropped in Skudai. The GP model was only significantly fitted in 2017 and 2019, whereas the GPGP model was only significant fitted in 2017. In recent years, the emergence of the first quantum computers at a time when AI is undergoing a fruitful era has led many AI researchers to be tempted into adapting their algorithms to run on a quantum computer. However, in many cases the initial enthusiasm has ended in frustration, since the features and principles underlying quantum computing are very different from traditional computers. In this paper, we present a discussion of the difficulties arising when designing a quantum version of an evolutionary algorithm based on Darwin's evolutionary mechanism, the so-called genetic algorithms. The paper includes the code in both Python and QISKIT of the quantum version of one of these evolutionary algorithms allowing the reader to experience the setbacks arising when translating a classical algorithm to its quantum version. The algorithm studied in this paper, termed RQGA (Reduced Quantum Genetic Algorithm), has been chosen as an example that clearly shows these difficulties, which are common to other AI algorithms. © 2023, CC BY.

Characterizing Zagreb Index Bounds in Trees with Specified Metric Dimension

Consider a simple graph G = (V, E), where V are the vertices and E are the edges. The first Zagreb index, M1(G) = Pv∈V ψG(v)2. The second Zagreb index, M2(G) = Puv∈E ψG(u)ψG(v). The metric dimension of a graph refers to the smallest subset of vertices in a resolving set such that the distances from these vertices to all others in the graph uniquely identify each vertex. In this paper, we characterize bounds for the Zagreb indices of trees, based on the order of the tree and its metric dimension. Furthermore, we identify the trees that achieve these extremal bounds, offering valuable insights into how the metric dimension influences the behavior of the Zagreb indices in tree structures. © 2024, CC BY.

Extremal Values of the Atom-Bond Connectivity Index for Trees with Given Roman Domination Numbers

Consider that G = (X, Y) is a simple, connected graph with X as the vertex set and Y as the edge set. The atom-bond connectivity (ABC) index is a novel topological index that Estrada introduced in Estrada et al. (1998). It is defined as ABC(G) = xy∈XY (G)s ζx +ζxζζyy− 2 where ζx and ζx represent the degrees of the vertices x and y, respectively. In this work, we explore the behavior of the ABC index for tree graphs. We establish both lower and upper bounds for the ABC index, expressed in terms of the graph’s order and its Roman domination number. Additionally, we characterize the tree structures that correspond to these extremal values, offering a deeper understanding of how the Roman domination number (RDN) influences the ABC index in tree graphs. © 2024, CC BY.

Arrival time for the fastest among N switching stochastic particles

MSC Codes 60G40, 60G70We study the first arrival time for the fastest among N Brownian particles that can switch between two states inside a finite interval. The switching is modeled as a two-state Markov chain and particles can only escape in state 1. We estimate the fastest arrival time by solving asymptotically the Fokker-Planck equations for three different initial distributions: uniformly distributed, delta-Dirac and long-tail decay. The derived formulas reveal that the fastest particle avoid switching when the switching rates are much smaller than the diffusion time scale. The present results are compared to stochastic simulations revealing the range of validity of the derived formulas. Finally, we discuss some applications in cell biology. This study aims to develop an interactive virtual tour based on Android with a first-person shooter approach to introduce the Adisutjipto Institute of Aerospace Technology (ITD Adisutjipto) virtually. This virtual tour utilizes an Artificial Intelligence (AI) agent as an intelligent guide who can answer questions and provide relevant information related to facilities and locations inside the ITD Adisutjipto building. The test results show that this virtual tour is effective and feasible to use, with a user satisfaction rate reaching 87.72%. This study contributes to the field of educational virtual technology by offering a more immersive and interactive experience. Users can easily explore the ITD Adisutjipto building virtually and obtain the information they need efficiently. This research is expected to be an innovative solution to introduce the ITD Adisutjipto to wider community, as well as support learning and research activities in the aerospace technology field.

Voltage mapping in subcellular nanodomains using electro-diffusion modeling

Voltage distribution in sub-cellular micro-domains such as neuronal synapses, small protrusions or dendritic spines regulates the opening and closing of ionic channels, energy production and thus cellular homeostasis and excitability. Yet how voltage changes at such a small scale in vivo remains challenging due to the experimental diffraction limit, large signal fluctuations and the still limited resolution of fast voltage indicators. Here, we study the voltage distribution in nano-compartments using a computational approach based on the Poisson–Nernst–Planck equations for the electro-diffusion motion of ions, where inward and outward fluxes are generated between channels. We report a current–voltage (I–V) logarithmic relationship generalizing Nernst law that reveals how the local membrane curvature modulates the voltage. We further find that an influx current penetrating a cellular electrolyte can lead to perturbations from tens to hundreds of nanometers deep depending on the local channels organization. Finally, we show that the neck resistance of dendritic spines can be completely shunted by the transporters located on the head boundary, facilitating ionic flow. How large the number of redundant copies should be to make a rare event probable

The redundancy principle provides a framework to study how rare events are made possible with probability 1 in accelerated time, by making many copies of similar random searchers. However, what is a large n? To estimate large n with respect to the geometrical properties of a domain and the dynamics, we present here a criterion based on splitting probabilities between a small fraction of the exploration space associated with an activation process and other absorbing regions where trajectories can be terminated. We obtain explicit computations especially when there is a killing region located inside the domain that we compare with stochastic simulations. We also present examples of extreme trajectories with killing in dimension 2. For a large n, the optimal trajectories avoid penetrating inside the killing region. Finally, we discuss some applications to cell biology.

Real-world problems often consist of multiple conflicting objectives to be optimized simultaneously, featuring a set of Pareto-optimal solutions. Estimating the entire Pareto front can be computationally expensive, and is not always necessary, as decision makers will likely be interested only in specific regions of the Pareto front. In the absence of knowledge about the decision maker preferences, the so-called knees in the Pareto front are considered to be particularly attractive. In this paper, we propose using Thompson Sampling in the Bayesian optimization framework to estimate the location of the knee regions in a data-efficient manner. Our experimental results show that the proposed methods accurately locate the knee regions after a very small number of evaluations, providing a computationally efficient approach to single-and multi-knee detection in multi-objective optimization. © 1997-2012 IEEE.
