Flow visualization through motion estimation using time-sequenced images plays a significant role in analyzing and understanding complex flow phenomena, and it is widely used in meteorology, oceanography, medicine, astronomy, experimental fluid mechanics, etc. However, it is difficult for current motion estimators to adapt to illumination changes, remove instable perturbation, and capture diverse motion patterns. In this paper, a novel flow visualization tool is developed to address these issues by employing a structure-enhanced motion estimator composed of a data term and a regularization term. Specifically, a statistical correlation descriptor is designed for the data term to improve the accuracy of motion estimation by enhancing both illumination robustness and matching discrimination. Inspired by the strong distinguishability of a structure-texture distribution in a local window, a structure-enhanced regularizer that considers the physical mechanism of fluid diffusion is introduced to capture different motion patterns, enhance prominent flow structures, and remove unnecessary ripples or textures caused by instable perturbation or noise. The experimental results demonstrate that our approach significantly outperforms current motion estimators in handling illumination changes and predicting complex fluid flows, and it also achieves state-of-the-art evaluation results on the public fluid flow datasets. Furthermore, the designed flow visualization tool successfully captures diverse motion patterns in Jupiter’s White Ovals, which is crucial for understanding the physical mechanisms behind their formation and sustenance. © 1991-2012 IEEE.

A slot-fed dualband rectangular dielectric resonator antenna (DRA) for WLAN applications is investigated. ANSYS HFSS was used to study the reflection coefficient, radiation patterns and antenna gain of the dualband DRA. The results show that it can provide two passbands in the ranges of 2.4-2.82 GHz and 5.07-5.54 GHz, which completely cover the 2.4-GHz/5.2-GHz WLAN bands. The proposed dualband DRA can provide a relatively larger high-to-low frequency ratio of ~2.1. © 2019 IEEE.

A wideband and replaceable dielectric resonant antenna (DRA) excited by a probe is investigated. The proposed wideband DRA consists of a probe platform and a solid cylindrical dielectric resonator, and two magnets are applied to fix them. In this way, the dielectric resonator can be easily replaced. Therefore, three kinds of wideband DRAs with impedance bandwidth of 35.8%, 56.6% and 74% are designed. The reflection coefficient, radiation mode and antenna gain of the cylindrical DRA were analyzed by using HFSS ANSYS. © 2020 IEEE.

In this paper, the strain and vibration of the bridge cable and its compensation device were monitored using fiber optic grating (FBG) sensing technology on the Zhoushan-Daishan Bridge in Zhoushan, Zhejiang Province. During the monitoring period, the bridge experienced two typhoon events. The strain and vibration signals were analyzed. The results showed that the typhoon 'Muifa' had a greater impact on the Zhoushan-Daishan Bridge than typhoon 'Hinnamnor'. And there was no movement of the expansion compensation device during the monitoring period. © 2023 IEEE.

Object detection on pavement cracks plays a significant role in the overall condition assessment of the pavement. However, the automatic crack detection remains a tough work due to the complex background and the scale change. In order to solve the related issues, a deep learning model named YOLOv5-AH is proposed on the basis of the YOLOv5. We integrate convolutional block attention module (CBAM) to extract attention area, which can emphasize the crack features and suppress the background information. Moreover, we optimize the network architecture by adding one more prediction head to detect different-scale cracks. To further improved our proposed YOLOv5-AH, a series of advanced strategies are integrated into the model training including data augmentation. A pavement crack dataset in different enviroments is built by a mobile robot. The precision and recall of our crack detection method reach 0.924 and 0.988 respectively. The prediction speed of the model can achieve real-time effect (72FPS). © 2022 IEEE.

In this paper, a road crack acquisition and analysis system based on mobile robot and deep learning is proposed. First, a virtual reality technology-based omnidirectional mobile robot is developed to remotely collect detailed road crack images. Next, an image dataset including different kinds of crack images collected by the mobile robot is constructed and utilized for training and testing a deep convolutional neural network (DCNN) model. Following this, the trained model is used to identify and segment the crack images acquired from the robot, and to facilitate the inspector to know the road surface condition, crack information (crack length, crack width, and crack area) is obtained using an image processing method. Finally, the proposed system and method are applied to a campus road, which realizes the accurate acquisition and analysis of road crack information, thus demonstrating the feasibility and effectiveness of the proposed system and method. © 2021 IEEE.

With consideration of communication link attacks, the distributed predefined-time consensus control issue of multi-agent systems is studied. First, a distributed resilient predefined-time observer is introduced to obtain an exact estimation of the states of the leader within predefined time. Second, a predefined-time consensus control protocol is proposed. The rigorous proof demonstrates that all follower agents can reach a common state within predefined time. At last a numerical example is presented to show the effectiveness of the resilient predefined-time controller. © 2022 IEEE.

The capsule network constructs the relationship between the part and the whole in an image through feature coding, which shows excellent performance in the image classification. However, the original capsule network is weak in extracting useful feature information, because it tends to explain all the information in a graph and the advantages of the capsule network cannot be reflected in the face of complex background datasets. By using MobileNetV3 as the backbone to replace the simple primary convolutional network layer, an improved capsule network named MB-CapsNet is proposed in this paper. The advanced network reducing the interference of invalid features to focus on effective features. At the same time, a variety of parameter sets are employed and extensive experiments are proceeded on four kinds of datasets. After that, an optimal network configuration is obtained which is suitable for different datasets. The experimental results illustrate that the advanced MB-CapsNet is more effectively than the original capsule network in the feature extraction, showing its advantages and potential in complex datasets. © 2022 IEEE.

Automatic ship detection of synthetic aperture radar (SAR) images has been widely used in maritime surveillance. SAR images have the characteristics of all-weather, all-day detection. Therefore, many object detection methods ranging from traditional to deep learning techniques have been proposed. However, the objects in large-scale remote sensing images are relatively small, and objects are often appeared at different scales. What's more, the current ship detection methods are insensitive to small-scale vessels. To solve these problems, a novel multi-scale ship detection method based on a Multi-scale Faster R-CNN network in SAR images is proposed in this paper. Firstly, a multi-scale network is used to decompose the SAR images into a pyramid structure and extract the features. Then, the region proposal network (RPN) is performed using the feature map for each layer to get the proposals that contains ship targets. Finally, these proposals are fed to the classification and regression network to obtain the final detection results. Multi-scale Faster R-CNN achieves the mean average precision(mAP) score 0.986 on the dataset of SAR-Ship-Dataset, which indicates that the proposed method has high detection accuracy and low missing rate. © 2020 IOP Publishing Ltd. In this paper, we discuss a discrete-time Geom[X]/G/1 queueing system with modified T vacation policy and startup time. We derive the generating functions and the mean values for the steady state system size and the waiting time, and also get those of the busy period, the vacation period and the vacation cycle by using embedded Markov chain. Finally, we determine the optimal (T*,J*) to minimize the cost function with fixed cost elements by constructing a cost function. © Springer International Publishing AG 2018.
