A wideband tri-polarization reconfigurable metasurface (MTS) antenna with a filtering function is presented in this article. The proposed antenna consists of two layers, which are the coupled aperture layer and MTS layer. The antenna is excited by a microstrip printed on the bottom of the aperture layer, and the ground plane is fabricated on the top. A reconfigured coupled aperture achieved polarization diversity is etched on the ground plane. Additionally, the complementary split ring resonator (CSRR) is loaded on the ground plane and introduced a low-frequency radiated null. Six sets of PIN diodes are inserted on the microstrip and the reconfigured coupled aperture. By controlling the PIN diodes, polarization diversity is obtained, including linear polarization (LP), right-hand circular polarization (RHCP), and left-hand circular polarization (LHCP) modes. Besides, the MTS is manufactured on the top of the MTS layer. A high-frequency radiated null is realized by the non-uniform MTS. Thus, a polarization diversity with filtering performance antenna based on non-uniform is proposed. The simulated results show the antenna has a wide impedance bandwidth (IMBW) of 41.4% and 45.6% for LP and CP modes, respectively. While the antenna is operated in CP modes, an overlapped 3-dB axial ratio (AR) bandwidth reaches 16.2% for both CP modes. Meanwhile, the out-of-band radiation suppression level is more than 14.6 dB and 17 dB for LP and CP modes.

In this article, we introduce a filtering antenna with broadband and a compact design. It leverages metasurface (MTS) technology in conjunction with the complementary split ring resonator (CSRR) topology. The antenna consists of three parts, including the feeding line, the aperture layer, and the MTS layer. The MTS is excited by a coupled aperture cut out of the ground plane. Besides, the CSRR is loaded on the ground plane to utilize the resonant characteristic and obtain a low-frequency radiation null. Furthermore, the MTS is made up of non-uniform rectangle units and a rectangle ring slot is etched in the outer elements. Due to the non-uniformity of the MTS and the rectangle ring slot, the excited current of the MTS at high frequency is neutralized and two high-frequency radiation nulls are obtained. Hence, the filtering function of the antenna is achieved. In the simulation, the antenna shows a wide -10-dB impedance bandwidth of 40.8% and a good out-of-band radiation suppression level of more than 15 dB. Meanwhile, the antenna has a low prolife of 0.06 λ (at the center operating frequency) and a peak gain of 8 dBi.
