A self-adaptive multi-objective harmony search based fuzzy clustering technique for image segmentation

Image segmentation can be considered as a problem of clustering since the pixels in the digital image are clustered in term of some evaluation criteria. Generally, clustering technique in image segmentation employs a single objective which can not reach ideal result for various kinds of images. Moreover, fuzzy c-means (FCM) algorithms which determine the fuzzy partition matrix of the data set by solving the clustering problem with conditional constraints and obtain the clustering output, have been verified effective and efficient for image segmentation. In fact, these FCM algorithms still have some shortcomings including: being sensitive to outliers and noise, key parameters need to be adjusted with experience. In view of this, a self-adaptive multi-objective harmony search based fuzzy clustering (SAMOHSFC) technique for image segmentation is proposed in this paper. SAMOHSFC technique encodes several cluster centers in one harmony vector and optimizes multiple objectives. In addition, we consider the spatial information of the image as an attribute of the input data set besides the attribute of gray information of input image in the SAMOHSFC. Superiority of the proposed algorithm over three classic segmentation algorithms has been verified for a synthetic and two real images from quantitative and visual aspect. In the experiment, the effect of different kinds of spatial information on the segmentation performance of the SAMOHSFC is analyzed. © 2018, Springer-Verlag GmbH Germany, part of Springer Nature.

In recent years, the application of new network architecture SDN combined with reinforcement learning in the field of artificial intelligence is more and more extensive, considering the diversity and complexity of traffic transmission. This paper proposes a DDPG-EREP(Enhanced and renewable experience pool) algorithm that dynamically plans the experience pool capacity and sampling size according to the current iteration number, and can update the experience in time, and applies it to SDN routing optimization. In addition, good results have been achieved through experiments, including better training speed and better routing optimization of SDN. © 2020 ACM.

In this study, unmanned ships test platform based on the parallel systems framework is proposed to improve the test efficiency and accuracy of unmanned ships in complex ocean environment. The parallel intelligence theory and ACP approach, the efficient interaction between virtual and real environment is achieved, which provides more comprehensive and accurate data for unmanned ships testing. Future research will further expand the scope of virtual environment simulation and improve systems accuracy and response speed to a wider range of unmanned ships test requirements. © 2024 IEEE.

With the development of continuous fiber-reinforced composites (CFRCs) 3D printing technology, timely, efficient and accurate detection of fiber path defects is essential for ensuring product quality and performance. However, challenges still need to be addressed in this field, such as inadequate training data coverage and the complexity of fiber path structures. These factors hinder the capability of traditional methods to accurately assess the status of printed products. Therefore, developing accurate and robust fiber path defect detection techniques is crucial for CFRCs 3D printing technology. In this paper, we propose a precise detection method for fiber path defects in CFRCs 3D printing using the YOLOv7 object detection model combined with a Squeeze-and-Excitation (SE) attention mechanism. By introducing the SE attention mechanism, we enhance the perception capability of the YOLOv7 model for crucial features, thereby improving the accuracy of fiber path defect detection. The experimental results show that the YOLOv7 model, when augmented with an attention mechanism, achieves an average accuracy of 93.9% in identifying fiber path defects during the printing process. Compared to models without this attention mechanism, the results show that there is 10.7% increase, with a notably enhanced learning capacity during the training phase, which substantiates the efficacy and practicality of the proposed approach. © 2024 IEEE.

Parallel implementation of w-projection wide-field imaging

w-Projection is a wide-field imaging technique that is widely used in radio synthesis arrays. Processing the wide-field big data generated by the future Square Kilometre Array(SKA) will require significant updates to current methods to significantly reduce the time consumed on data processing. Data loading and gridding are found to be two major time-consuming tasks in w-projection. In this paper, we investigate two parallel methods of accelerating w-projection processing on multiple nodes: the hybrid Message Passing Interface(MPI) and Open Multi-Processing(OpenMP) method based on multicore Central Processing Units(CPUs) and the hybrid MPI and Compute Unified Device Architecture(CUDA)method based on Graphics Processing Units(GPUs). Both methods are successfully employed and operated in various computational environments, confirming their robustness. The experimental results show that the total runtime of both MPI + OpenMP and MPI + CUDA methods is significantly shorter than that of single-thread processing. MPI + CUDA generally shows faster performance when running on multiple nodes than MPI + OpenMP, especially on large numbers of nodes. The single-precision GPU-based processing yields faster computation than the double-precision processing; while the single-and doubleprecision CPU-based processing shows consistent computational performance. The gridding time remarkably increases when the support size of the convolution kernel is larger than 8 and the image size is larger than 2,048 pixels. The present research offers useful guidance for developing SKA imaging pipelines.

As a representative topic in natural language processing and automated theorem proving, geometry problem solving requires an abstract problem understanding and symbolic reasoning. A major challenge here is to find a feasible reasoning sequence that is consistent with given axioms and the theorems already proved. Most recent methods have exploited neural network-based techniques to automatically discover eligible solving steps. Such a kind of methods, however, is greatly impacted by the expert solutions for training. To improve the accuracy, this paper proposes a new method called counterfactual evolutionary reasoning, which uses a generative adversarial network to generate initial reasoning sequences and then introduces counterfactual reasoning to explore potential solutions. By directly exploring theorem candidates rather than the neural network selection, the new method can sufficiently extend the searching space to get a more appropriate reasoning step. Through comparative experiments on the recent proposed Geometry3k, the largest geometry problem solving dataset, our method generally achieves a higher accuracy than most previous methods, bringing an overall improvement about 4.4% compared with the transformer models. © 2023 IEEE.

In order to solve the problem of premature convergence of the basic genetic algorithm when planning the robot running path, the basic genetic algorithm is improved and optimized. Different population initialization methods are used to initialize multiple populations randomly, so as to improve the diversity of populations;Improve the adaptive strategy and elite strategy of crossover and mutation operators to improve the convergence speed of the algorithm;Add the path tortuosity as the planning index in the fitness function to make the planned path smoother, and add constraints to the model to avoid obstacles;Finally, through the transformation of the coding paradigm of the above improved genetic algorithm, it can run on Flink distributed cluster to obtain faster solution speed, so as to meet the efficiency requirements of path planning in large-scale robot cluster system. The optimized algorithm is compared with the basic genetic algorithm. The simulation results show that the improved algorithm is efficient in robot path planning. © 2022 IEEE.

At present, small files stored in most of the distributed storage systems account for a large proportion, how to improve the storage efficiency of small file has long been a hot issue in the academic community. In the existing methods, researchers usually integrate small files into content-related large files for association storage. The shortcoming is that if we read some small files in a large file, the entire large file must be read into the cache space, which greatly reduces the utilization of the cache space. To solve this defect, this paper designs a scheme based on the combination of cache replacement optimization algorithm and multi-level cache dynamic elimination mechanism. We compute the content heat value of the cache object by the cache replacement optimization algorithm, and then through the multi-level cache dynamic elimination mechanism we expel the object with low content heat value in the cache space to reserve enough space for the new arrived object. This proposed method not only improves the cache space utilization, but also increases the cache data search efficiency and hit rate. Series of experiments and their result show that the cache hit rate obtained by our proposed method is 14% higher than the LRU cache replacement algorithm and 52% higher than the LFU cache replacement algorithm, which can optimize the reading performance of small files based on Redis cache. © Springer Nature Singapore Pte Ltd. 2020.

Agent actions planning is a challenging problem in multi-agent reinforcement learning. Recent methods typically build their predictive models by full connection layers, but the shortage of utilizing action and observation information in complex multi-agent environment limits the performance of those methods. To address this issue, we propose a novel predictive model based on self-attention mechanism which can effectively use information in the environment. Specifically, we use the MADDPG algorithm to make a dataset where the input is the observations and actions and the output is the predicted observations and rewards. We also introduce the multi-head attention mechanism into the predictive model so that the predictive model can better combine different information for prediction. We perform extensive experiments to assess the proposed method and compare it with the representative baseline approach. Results demonstrate that our method outperforms competitors with higher accuracy in different tasks. Our implementation will be publicly available. © 2022 IEEE.
