This paper describes an automatic system for 3D face modeling using frontal and profile images taken by an ordinary digital camera. The system consists of four subsystems including frontal feature detection, profile feature detection, shape deformation, and texture generation modules. The frontal and profile feature detection modules automatically extract the facial parts such as the eye, nose, mouth, and ear. The shape deformation module utilizes the detected features to deform the generic head mesh model such that the deformed model coincides with the detected features. A texture is created by combining the facial textures augmented from the input images and the synthesized texture and mapped onto the deformed generic head model. This paper provides a practical system for 3D face modeling, which is highly automated by aggregating, customizing, and optimizing a bunch of individual computer vision algorithms. The experimental results show a highly automated process of modeling, which is sufficiently robust to various imaging conditions. The whole model creation including all the optional manual corrections takes only 2-3 minutes. © 2005 Hindawi Publishing Corporation.

Two kinds of algebraic multigrid (AMG) algorithms with three-dimensional equal algebraic structures are constructed on the basis of a two-dimensional coarsing technique. The AMG method and the corresponding algebraic multigrid-preconditioned CG method are applied to elliptic boundary value problems with smooth coefficients and anisotropic problems. Numerical results show that the AMG algorithm is efficient and robust.

3D prestack depth migration is essential for imaging complex structures. And shot-profile 3D prestack depth migration is one of the commonly used methods. In this paper, the 3D prestack depth migration for the SEG/EAEG model with the planewave synthesizing method is presented. Based on the difference operator splitting method, wavefield extrapolation by hybrid methods is implemented with two schemes, one is the two-way splitting algorithm, the other is the four-way splitting algorithm. Numerical results for the SEG/EAEG model with MPI parallel algorithm are given. The migration results show that the 3D prestack depth migration with the planewave synthesizing method has good imaging precision and that the numerical anisotropic errors are not obvious when wavefield extrapolation is completed with the two-way splitting hybrid algorithm. The method presented in this paper can be applied in field data processing. © 2004 SEG Annual Meeting. All rights reserved.

In this work, a new representation is developed for generalized hypergeometric functions of type p F p . To this end a first order vector differential equation is constructed in a way such that the derivative of the unknown vector has unit matrix coefficient. The solution vector differential equation is rewritten in the form of a series expansion. An infinite process of factor extractions and annihilations is employed to construct finally a vector differential equation that can be easily solved. Truncation of this scheme can be used to get approximations to hypergeometric functions of type p F p . A simple, yet meaningful, implementation seems to give quite promising results. Over the last four years, a community of researchers working on Grid and High Performance computing technologies started discussing the barriers and opportunities that grid technologies must face and exploit for the development of health-related applications. This interest lead to the first Healthgrid conference, held in Lyon, France, on January 16th–17th, 2003, with the focus of creating increased awareness about the possibilities and advantages linked to the deployment of grid technologies in health, ultimately targeting the creation of a European/international grid infrastructure for health. The topics of this conference converged with the position of the eHealth division of the European Commission, whose mandate from the Lisbon Meeting was "To develop an intelligent environment that enables ubiquitous management of citizens’ health status, and to assist health professionals in coping with some major challenges, risk management and the integration into clinical practice of advances in health knowledge." In this context "Health" involves not only clinical procedures but covers the whole range of information from molecular level (genetic and proteomic information) over cells and tissues, to the individual and finally the population level (social healthcare). Grid technology offers the opportunity to create a common working backbone for all different members of this large "health family" and will hopefully lead to an increased awareness and interoperability among disciplines. The first HealthGrid conference led to the creation of the Healthgrid association, a non-profit research association legally incorporated in France but formed from the broad community of European researchers and institutions sharing expertise in health grids. After the second Healthgrid conference, held in Clermont-Ferrand on January 29th–30th, 2004, the need for a "white paper" on the current status and prospective of health grids was raised. The teracluster LSSC-II installed at the State Key Laboratory of Scientific and engineering computing, Chinese Academy of sciences is one of the most powerful PC clusters in China. It has a peek performance of 2Tflops. With a Linpack performance of 1.04Tflops, it is ranked at the 43rd place in the 20th TOP500 List (November 2002), 51st place in the 21st TOP500 List (June 2003), and the 82nd place in the 22nd TOP500 List (November 2003) with a new Linpack performance of 1.3Tflops. In this paper, we present some design principles of this cluster, as well as its applications in some large-scale numerical simulations.

The Fast Multipole Method(FMM) and Multilevel Fast Multipole Algorithm(MLFMA) are successfully developed to solve electrically very large size of perfectly electric conducting objects(PEC).Using the impedance boundary conditions(IBC), the integral equations(IEs) can be simplified and solved for wave problems involving imperfectly conducting ***,the algorithm is firstly implemented and verified by comparing with the exact analytical solution for a PEC sphere,and then extended for imperfectly conducting(thin material coating) objects and verified with the analytical ***,it has been applied to an aircraft model with the PEC and material coating surface and compared the results.

Fast boolean approximation methods for solving integral equations in high dimensions

Solving integral equations in high dimensions requires a huge computational effort and hence fast methods are desirable. We develop and analyze Boolean approximation methods using the piecewise constant functions for solving integral equations of the second kind on a unit cube in R^d, including the Boolean Galerkin method and the Boolean collocation method. These schemes are based on an idea from Boolean sum approximation to obtain a linear combination of multiple coarse levels of approximations. We prove that these schemes provide fast computational methods. Specifically, they have convergence in order O(h log^d-1(h^-1)), with computational cost in order O(h^-1 log^d-1(h^-1)), as h → 0, where h is the mesh size used in the methods. For the special case when d = 2, we develop an iterated Boolean Galerkin method and prove the super-convergence property of this method. ©2004 Rocky Mountain Mathematics Consortium.
