This paper deals with examining the possibility of peer grading when ranking graphical user interface (GUI) design images. The assessment was made on real images created by students on a GUI design course. Students' assignments to design a graphical user interface were being subjected to pairwise comparison and ranking was made based on pairwise comparison matrix. Obtained students' ranking was compared to experts' opinion using Spearman's and Kendall's metrics. The results suggest the possibility of using students' peer to peer grades to obtain objective rank from their subjective comparisons. © 2023 IEEE.

The security of IoT (Internet of Things) devices and the protection of sensitive information processed by these devices such as personal data, sensor values, process-related information is an important and difficult challenge. A major task in IoT communication is secure identification of devices. Unfortunately, traditional cryptographic methods are often not suitable for IoT devices due to their limited hardware resources. However, typical methods are computationally intensive, require a large amount of memory, and have a high-power consumption. On the other hand, Physical Unclonable Functions (PUFs) are low-cost and lightweight hardware-based primitives that can be used as a security component to protect data against third parties and thus increase security of a device. In this paper, the challenges and vulnerabilities in the development of PUF-based authentication protocols are presented. To this end, a security analysis of different approaches known from literature are discussed. Furthermore, possible attack vectors and prevention techniques are also considered. © 2024 IEEE.

This paper presents a distributed discrete-Time exponential sliding mode consensus (DDESMC) protocol for a class of multi-Agent systems. A leader-following approach of a homogenous multi-Agent system (MAS) is exploited to derive the protocol. The discrete-Time exponential sliding mode control is proposed using the graph theory. The upper bound on the number of reaching steps for achieving the consensus among all the agents is derived. The protocol ensures the minimum width of the Quasi-Sliding Mode Band (QSMB) as compared to other classical approaches. Also, the protocol ensures the consensus effort in the order O (T3). The Lyapunov theory is then used to determine the global stability condition for the consensus, and finally, a numerical example is given to demonstrate the effectiveness of the protocol. Furthermore, the performance of the proposed protocol is compared to that of the standard DSMC protocol described in the literature for both the time and effort needed to reach consensus and the deviation from consensus after reaching consensus. It is inferred that the proposed DDESMC protocol outperforms the classical DSMC protocol. © 2023 IEEE.

Positioning and communication systems hold intriguing potentials in the context of the mining industry. The need for safety and environmental precautions in mining has grown clearer for governments and scientists across the world. This is in light of complex and hazardous mining situations which can be tackled by the advancement of science and technology. This paper discusses how positioning systems have enhanced mining operations' safety, productivity and environmental sustainability. The drawbacks of positioning systems in the mining industry are established and analysed by examining the influence this technology has had on the different operations in the mineral industry. The possibility of their utility for precise localisation in situations when no other techniques exist has been carefully evaluated for recent uses of these technologies in the mineral industry. This paper addresses the urgent need for enhanced agricultural practices by pinpointing the significant limitations of existing crop prediction and monitoring systems. Traditional methods, often characterized by low accuracy and high resource consumption, severely limit effective farming decision-making and sustainability. In response to these challenges. A proposed method is introducing the Optimized Crop Prediction and Monitoring Model (OCPMM), a groundbreaking approach that harnesses the power of advanced Machine Learning Algorithms (MLAs) to elevate accuracy and efficiency in crop management. The OCPMM distinguishes itself through innovative features such as real-time data analysis and predictive analytics, establishing a new benchmark for precision agriculture. Our comparative analysis reveals that the OCPMM markedly surpasses conventional methods, such as the Standard Crop Yield Estimation Technique (SCYET), across key metrics, including prediction accuracy, resource utilization, and time efficiency. These enhancements are instrumental in optimizing crop yields, minimizing waste, and advancing sustainable agricultural practices. By rigorously addressing the deficiencies of traditional systems and highlighting the superiority of the OCPMM with empirical evidence, this study illuminates the transformative potential of machine learning technologies in agriculture. It presents a scalable, reliable, and efficient framework poised to revolutionize agricultural practices, paving the way for a future where farming decisions are informed by precision and foresight. © 2024 IEEE.

Battery fault diagnosis is critical to ensure the safe and reliable operation of electric vehicles and energy storage systems. Entropy value can represent the degree of chaos and disorder of the system, the improved entropy value algorithm has been applied by many researchers to the field of fault diagnosis of lithium-ion batteries. However, the use of Shannon entropy for battery cell fault detection has some limitations and drawbacks, such as sensitivity to noise, limited feature representation and lack of adaptability. To address these limitations, a novel approach that incorporates Shannon entropy with other relevant features through clustering algorithm is proposed in this study. By applying a sliding time window to iteratively score the clustering results, this study transforms the traditional classification problem into an unsupervised scoring problem. The results demonstrate that the clustering algorithm based on multiple features outperforms the standalone Shannon entropy algorithm in terms of accuracy and time in diagnosing individual cell faults. © 2024 IEEE.

In this work, a method of reshaping the radiation pattern of an open-circuited EH1-mode bidirectional leaky-wave antenna is presented. Initially, it is found that an off-broadside radiation pattern is generated from the open-circuited EH1-mode bidirectional leaky-wave antenna. This is due to that several pairs of opposite magnetic currents exist on the antenna aperture. Afterwards, the opposite magnetic currents are reshaped to be with the same directions by introducing the microstrip EH1-mode component properly. Such a way, a single high-gain beam can be generated at broadside. The operation principles of the presented hybrid-mode unit are investigated by analyzing its electric-field distributions. Finally, a prototype containing 4 hybrid-mode units is practically implemented. The simulation and measurement both indicate that the original off-broadside radiation pattern is well reshaped to the desired single high-gain beam at broadside. © 2023 IEEE.

A directly-fed pattern reconfigurable patch antenna without extra feeding networks is presented in this paper with a straightforward design method and the discussion on its array performance. TM01 and TM02 modes of a rectangular patch are employed to realize pattern reconfigurability. Four shorting pins underneath the patch and two high-impedance open-ended stubs loaded on the radiating edges are adopted for the frequency overlap of the two working modes. Additional center-carved slots or center-loaded stubs are proposed as a simple impedance-matching mechanism without feeding networks. The working principle is investigated by a transmission-line circuit model. Simulation results show that at 2.45 GHz, the radiation pattern of the proposed antenna can be switched between a single beam and dual beams with maximum realized gains of 9.6 dBi and 5.6 dBi, respectively. Moreover, a 1×4 array is designed using the proposed antenna to demonstrate its array performance. © 2023 IEEE.

With the continuous advancement of modernization and intelligence in agricultural production, precise orchard management is crucial for enhancing the efficiency of apple production. This study focuses on apple orchards, introducing the YOLOv5 deep learning model to address the issues of apple detection and quantity estimation in traditional orchard management. Through effective feature extraction and learning from orchard images, the model accurately detects and estimates the quantity of fruits, providing reliable data support for orchard management. Firstly, this research delves into the background of the apple detection problem, highlighting the limitations of traditional methods in dealing with complex lighting, shadows, and other environmental factors. Subsequently, leveraging the YOLOv5 model, a deep learning-based orchard image processing method is proposed. This method fully exploits the efficiency and accuracy of the YOLOv5 model in object detection, training the model to recognize apples and providing a more intelligent tool for orchard management. In the model-solving phase, the structure and training process of the YOLOv5 model are detailed. Through training on a large number of orchard images, the model successfully learns the feature representation of apples, demonstrating strong generalization capabilities. The results indicate the model's outstanding performance in apple detection and quantity estimation tasks. Finally, the study summarizes the advantages and innovations of the apple detection and quantity estimation method based on YOLOv5, and provides prospects for future research directions. This research offers an efficient and accurate tool for orchard management, contributing new ideas and methods to the development of agricultural intelligence. © 2024 IEEE.

In order to analyze the mechanism of optical chirality signal enhancement of chiral spherical particles, the scattering properties of chiral particles were studied based on the T-matrix method, and the optical chirality signal is calculated under different types of polarization vortex beams with orbital angular momentum (OAM). Firstly, for particles with fixed sizes, the enhancement effects of tightly focused light field of radial and azimuthally polarized polarization beams were explored. In addition, for particles with varying sizes, the enhancement of the optical chirality signal of particles was achieved by controlling the order of OAM carried by the beam. © 2023 SPIE.
