Modeling and Mitigation of Radio Frequency Interference for Wireless Devices

This article reviews the electromagnetic framework used to model radio frequency interference (RFI) and the resulting development of mitigation methods. With the rise of IoT devices, wireless devices in which RF antennas are integrated with high-performance digital systems in small form factors suffer from electromagnetic interference, known as RF interference or RF desensitization. The simple yet rigorous framework can be used for a systematic RFI-aware design, saving time and effort for trial-and-error troubleshooting. © 2012 IEEE.

Unstructured Numerical Image Dataset Separation (UNIDS) method employing an enhanced unsupervised clustering technique. The objective is to delineate an optimal number of distinct groups within the input grayscale (G-S) image content, utilizing the improved limited iteration agglomerative clustering (iLIAC) clustering technique for the separation and enhancement of picture elements. The UNIDS method is structured into two primary stages: partitioning and validation. In the partitioning stage, the UNIDS method identifies an appropriate number of discrete clusters within the grayscale image using the iLIAC technique, eliminating the need for predetermined procedures. Subsequently, the method evaluates the similarity and deviation among data elements within the same group in the resultant image dataset. Additionally, it assesses the proximity and inters severance among clusters in the outcome of the image dataset through the partitioning process. Empirical results indicate that the UNIDS system excels in the spontaneous identification of an optimal number of discrete clusters within the input G-S image. The system demonstrates superior thickness, reduced deviation among data elements within the same cluster, increased inter-separation, and diminished inter-closeness between cluster elements. Furthermore, empirical analysis establishes the superior performance of the UNIDS approach compared to existing clustering techniques. © The Author(s), under exclusive licence to Springer science+Business Media, LLC, part of Springer Nature 2024.

Comparative analysis of machine learning and ensemble approaches for hepatitis B prediction using data mining with synthetic minority oversampling technique

Purpose: Hepatitis B, caused by the Hepatitis B virus (HBV), can harm the liver without noticeable symptoms. Early detection is crucial to prevent transmission and enhance recovery. The main goal is to predict Hepatitis B through cost-effective lab test data, by utilizing machine learning. The primary focus is on evaluating the effectiveness of various algorithms in predicting the disease and their potential to enhance early diagnosis capabilities. Methods: Six distinct algorithms (Support Vector Machine, K-nearest Neighbors, Logistic Regression, decision tree, extreme gradient boosting, random forest) were employed alongside an ensemble model. Analysis involved two rounds: considering all features and key attributes. The Synthetic Minority Oversampling Technique (SMOTE) was employed for data imbalance. Various metrics, including the confusion matrix, precision, recall, F1 score, accuracy, receiver operating characteristics (ROC) curve, area under the curve (AUC), and mean absolute error (MAE), were utilized to assess the efficacy of each predictive technique. The National health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES) dataset was employed. Results: The experimental results demonstrate that the ensemble model attained the highest accuracy (97%) and AUC (0.997) in comparison to existing models. The analysis revealed that specific crucial features possess substantial predictive significance within this model. Conclusion: The study underscores the potential of the ensemble model as a valuable tool for medical practitioners, leveraging cost-effective and readily obtainable laboratory test data to predict Hepatitis B with remarkable accuracy. By facilitating early diagnosis and intervention, this research presents a promising avenue to enhance patient outcomes in the context of Hepatitis B. © 2023, The Author(s) under exclusive licence to International Union for Physical and engineering sciences in Medicine (IUPESM).

From Perception to Action:Brain-to-Brain Information Transmission of Pigeons

Along with the flourishing of brain-computer interface technology,the brain-to-brain information transmission between different organisms has received high attention in recent ***,specific information transmission mode and implementation technology need to be further *** this paper,we constructed a brain-to-brain information transmission system between pigeons based on the neural information decoding and electrical stimulation encoding *** system consists of three parts:(1)the“perception pigeon”learns to distinguish different visual stimuli with two discrepant frequencies,(2)the computer decodes the stimuli based on the neural signals recorded from the“perception pigeon”through a frequency identification algorithm(neural information decoding)and encodes them into different kinds of electrical pulses,(3)the“action pigeon”receives the Intracortical Microstimulation(ICMS)and executes corresponding key-pecking actions through discriminative learning(electrical stimulation encoding).The experimental results show that our brain-to-brain system achieves information transmission from perception to action between two pigeons with the average accuracy of about 72%.Our study verifies the feasibility of information transmission between inter-brain based on neural information decoding and ICMS encoding,providing important technical methods and experimental program references for the development of brain-to-brain communication technology.

A High-Performance 220-290 GHz Micromachined Waveguide Switch Based on Interference Between MEMS Reconfigurable Surfaces

This article presents a highly integrated novel silicon micromachined single-pole-single-throw waveguide switch based on two microelectromechanically reconfigurable switching surfaces (MEMS-RSs), which allows optimizing the switching performance by tuning the interference between the two such MEMS-RSs utilizing integrated electrostatic comb-drive actuators. The switch prototype is implemented with axially aligned standard WR-3.4 waveguide ports with a total footprint of 3 mm×3.5 mm×1.2 mm. The measured blocking (off) state insertion loss (isolation) and return loss, measured between two standard WR-3.4 waveguide flanges, are 28.5-32.5 dB and better than 0.7 dB, and the propagating (on) state insertion and return losses are 0.7-1.2 dB and better than 17 dB in the 220-290 GHz frequency band, respectively. The measured results were in excellent agreement with the simulation data, implying 27.5% fractional bandwidth, which is very close to a full waveguide band performance. For further investigations, two variants of the switching circuit with only a single MEMS-RS and without any MEMS-RSs have also been fabricated. The single MEMS-RS switch achieved the off-state isolation, on-state insertion loss, and return loss of only 11.5-12.5 dB, 0.8-1.3 dB, and better than 12 dB from 220 to 274 GHz, respectively, which clearly indicates the drastic performance improvement of the interference-based double MEMS-RS switch design. Moreover, measurement of the waveguide-only reference structure showed that the waveguide section alone attributed to 0.2-0.5 dB of the measured on-state insertion loss of the double MEMS-RS switch, and the rest is due to the introduction of the MEMS-RSs inside the waveguides. © 2011-2012 IEEE.

Large language models (LLMs) have significantly impacted natural language processing (NLP), healthcare, and beyond fields. LLMs have demonstrated unprecedented abilities to understand and generate human-like text, making them highly valuable for various tasks, including information retrieval, question-answering, and conversational AI. However, as these models are integrated into real-world applications, especially in sensitive domains such as healthcare, it becomes essential to evaluate their performance comprehensively. We present a process for fine-tuning LLMs to incorporate cardiac exercise and corpus of well-being activity, aiming to promote activity health support through NLP-driven applications. Using QLoRA, you can ensure that the model size remains small and reduce overhead while maintaining the high performance of the fine-tuned model. Subsequently, this paper presents a comparative analysis benchmark pipeline to evaluate fine-tuned models with base models on standard benchmark datasets from the healthcare domain. The aim is to evaluate the performance, robustness and accuracy of these models, showing that the fine-tuning process does not degrade the model performance, but improves the performance to some extent in some benchmarks. © 2025 IEEE.

The continuous revolution in Artificial Intelligence (AI) has played a significant role in the development of key consumer applications, including Industry 5.0, autonomous decision-making, fault diagnosis, etc. In practice, autonomous and intelligent robots and flying vehicles (i.e., drones) are also becoming the integral part of Industry 5.0. These vehicles are attaining significant importance nowadays because of their applications in consumer electronics. However, there may be numerous privacy issues in such an infrastructure. Nevertheless, neural computing-driven security solutions have played a significant role in overcoming the security and privacy issues of AI-driven intelligent flying vehicles. Motivated by these facts, this article presents a neural computing-based access control protocol for AI-driven flying vehicles to prevent all possible security threats. A detailed security evaluation of the devised protocol is done formally using the extensively recognized Real-Or-Random (ROR) oracle model. Similarly, the informal security analysis ensures the resistance of our scheme against various potential attacks under the assumptions of CK and DY adversarial models. Moreover, detailed performance scrutiny of the devised protocol with various existing schemes shows the robustness and supremacy of our scheme in terms of computation, communication overhead, and security attributes. © 1975-2011 IEEE.

An ultra-wideband (UWB) slotted compact Vivaldi antenna with a microstrip line feed was evaluated for microwave imaging (MI) applications. The recommended FR4 substrate-based Vivaldi antenna is 50×50×1.5 mm3 in size. The proposed compact Vivaldi antenna showed good radiation characteristics and spanned an ultra-wide bandwidth of 10 GHz, ranging from 3.6 to 13.6 GHz, using a microstrip line feed with a radial stub, tapered slots, and resonant cavities. After analyzing the simulation findings, the proposed compact slotted UWB Vivaldi antenna was compared with the basic Vivaldi antenna. The maximum gain and efficiency were 7.35 dB and 82%, respectively. The antenna was simulated in the time domain using the computer simulation technology (CST) microwave studio. The frequency domain solver was also used for cross-validation, and the results were equally good. In conclusion, the proposed compact Vivaldi antenna is a good option for microwave imaging applications. © 2023 The Institute of Electronics and Information Engineers.

Due to the diversity of edge devices and applications, edge systems are heterogeneous and have been applied in artificial intelligence fields such as smart factories and intelligent transportation, which is called heterogeneous edge intelligence. Many studies employ computation offloading to transfer processing data from resource-scarce edge devices to resource-rich edge servers. These studies primarily focus on the overall resource consumption of homogeneous edge systems, neglecting the system heterogeneity and the details of resource consumption. In this article, we construct a system model from a parallel perspective for the heterogeneous edge system with different processors, memory, and applications, which perceives the cost of energy and delay from three levels: system, application, and component. A hybrid metaheuristic algorithm combined with a greedy rule, hybrid mutation, and whale optimization algorithm (GHMWOA) is proposed to realize partial computation offloading. A partial offloading architecture of heterogeneous edge intelligence is proposed to validate our model and algorithm with real-world hardware and software. Experiment results not only show GHMWOA outperforms multiple classical optimization algorithms in minimizing energy consumption, but also discover on which system component energy consumption depends, and how properties of application and system influence the cost of energy. © 2014 IEEE.
