Applications in the automated microscopy require careful calibration of the microscope system. In one such scenario where automated microscope is made to work with auto slide scanner, accurate measurement of the calibration parameters becomes an essential procedure. Here, we propose an automated method for finding the calibration parameters of a microscope based auto slide scanner. Microscopic images of a grid micrometer slide are analyzed for finding calibration parameters. Apart from the automated microscope and auto slide scanner, the procedure requires a digital camera and a grid micrometer slide. This calibration finding embraces the following parameters of camera and slide scanner: (a) measuring the pixel size in micrometers, (b) measuring the camera orientation and (c) measuring the linearity and uniformity of the slide scanner. The proposed method is accurate, reproducible and scalable enough to be suitable for applications requiring in-situ calibration. © 2023 IEEE.

Magnetic Resonance Imaging is a non-invasive and efficient technique to visualize the various parts of the body. One of the major problems facing MRI as with any other medical imaging techniques is the noise and artifacts that affects it. This in turn can affect the accuracy of the diagnosis. Denoising is therefore an important part of medical image analysis. Denoising is a post-processing imaging technique aimed to achieve better diagnostic interpretation of medical images. Non-local Means is an efficient image denoising technique that exploits the self-similarity in images. Non-local Bayesian denoising combines non-local means denoising with Bayesian inference. This paper expands upon this approach for Magnetic Resonance Images. The performance of the method is measured quantitatively by means of Peak Signal-to-Noise Ratio(PSNR). In this patch-based approach, the number of patches taken is varied and the PSNR is calculated for different standard deviation of Gaussian noise. Other parameters like search radius and patch size are also varied to evaluate their effect on the performance. An empirically obtained patch count and search radius has been shown to provide optimum denoising results for Magnetic Resonance Images. © 2023 IEEE.

This work aims to create desktop applications to enable virtual access and control to prominent lab equipment like signal generators, oscilloscopes, spectrum analyzers, etc. The developed applications utilize PyQt5 and PyVISA Python libraries, enabling the creation of Graphical User Interfaces (GUIs) and virtual instrument communication. The applications support USB and Ethernet connection between the PC and the instruments. We demonstrate Python-enabled applications to remotely access a Vector Signal Generator, an Oscilloscope and in conjugation, also use an OEM's Spectrum Analyzer PC application to complete a framework for remote signal generation, analysis, and acquisition which can be useful in various research and testing scenarios in the modern hybrid work culture. © 2024 IEEE.

The Indian healthcare system turns to digital health: eSanjeevaniOPD as a national telemedicine service

healthcare infrastructure in the emerging economies is largely concentrated in their urban areas, and the burgeoning rural population is usually deprived of quality medical care. Telemedicine systems are expected to bridge this gap. This case study documents telemedicine’s significance and allows students to examine India’s national patient-to-doctor telemedicine service, eSanjeevaniOPD. The portal provides free and contactless consultation by a government doctor using video calls. COVID-19 hastened the adoption of eSanjeevaniOPD in the country, but its post-covid future would largely depend on feature innovation, architecture development, and digital strategies. With a total of three million teleconsultations in one year, eSanjeevaniOPD is one of the world’s largest digital healthcare delivery systems. This case provides insight into Indian health infrastructure, summarizes the journey of eSanjeevaniOPD, and raises questions on the digital transformation of the Indian healthcare delivery system. © Association for Information technology Trust 2021.

This research develops a real-time Brain-Computer Interface (BCI) for interpreting eye blinks as a means of hands-free communication, particularly useful for individuals with limited mobility or in high-focus tasks. Combining machine learning (ML) and signal processing, the study detects voluntary eye blinks with high accuracy. Data from 20 participants were analyzed using a random forest classifier, achieving accuracy between 85.29% and 92.15%. A peak detection method further improved blink detection accuracy to over 98%. This system enhances accessibility in various interactive environments, improving life quality for those with disabilities. © 2024 IEEE.

In the present paper classification of Brain Tumours through MRI imaging as Fine, Medium and Coarse textures is proposed. The other methods of classification of brain tumours that are frequently used are based on size, shape and spread of the tumour. The importance of classifying tumours based on texture is that there is correlation between malignancy of the tumour and the texture of the tumour. The other methods normally don't give this information. In this paper relation between texture of the tumour and it's malignancy has been explored. Four methods of feature extraction have been used, in order to obtain texture information of the tumour. They are, Gray Level Co-occurrence Matrix (GLCM), Gradient Matrix (GM), Laplacian Of Gaussian (LoG) and the Run-Length Matrix (RLM). Once the features are extracted, they are passed to Decision Tree classification algorithm. The classification algorithms classified the extracted features as having Fine, Medium or Coarse textures. The result obtained showed correlation between texture of the tumour and its malignancy. If the texture is predicted as Fine, then it is most likely a non-malignant, or benign tumour, and its diagnosis is most likely going to give a Complete response. A Medium texture would most likely give a Partial response, and is not very malignant. This is important, since knowing this information can benefit the patient and clinicians. This improves the diagnostic confidence of the clinicians and allows them to diagnose and report multiple patients that results in lower cost of the examination as well as access to diagnostics to people living in remote areas. © 2023 IEEE.

Quantum Key Distribution (QKD) is an emerging field in private key cryptography. Recent advancements in quantum cryptography are focused on developing more secure protocols, particularly in response to the real time implementations of quantum hacking. Our research article focuses on Measurement-Device-Independent (MDI) and Twin-Field (TF) Quantum Key Distribution protocols, addressing the challenges associated with their implementation. We have discussed the implementation of a discrete phase randomization technique and phase slicing for Twin-Field (TF) Quantum Key Distribution, along with the integration of a random number generator (RNG). In our work, we designed and implemented initial quantum state preparation and the control electronics for an advanced Quantum Key Distribution system using an FPGA board.

Due to the rapid advancements in Electric Vehicle (EV) and EV subsystem development, the requirement of test platforms for Electric vehicle level testing;Drive train system development and evaluation, Electric Vehicle Supply Equipment (EVSE) validation etc. are on the rise. EV manufacturers, OEMs of various drive subsystems, and the automotive certification agencies test the electric vehicle subsystem in terms of performance and standards for certification. Extensive and rigorous use of energy storage systems is needed in EV subsystem testing, which is time consuming and expensive. A high frequency, high power DC-DC converters with isolation and back-to-back test functionality can replicate the behaviour of energy storage systems for EV level testing. Such a configurable wide voltage range isolated converter configuration with back-to-back test functionality is discussed in this paper. Series resonant dual active bridge DC-DC converter is one of the most researched topologies in this regard due to their high power density and efficiency. But over a wide voltage range operation there is alarming rise in the inductor currents. In order to achieve wide output voltage range, a multiphase DC-DC converter is cascaded with the SR - DAB converter. In this design, two SR-DABs are connected in input-parallel output-parallel configuration and at the output of this a two-phase interleaved bidirectional DC-DC converter is cascaded. Due to the modular structure of the converter configuration, higher power and current levels can be achieved by adding more parallel modules of SR-DAB and bidirectional DC-DC converter, using the same configuration. The converter configuration, design, and simulation results are presented in this paper. © 2023 IEEE.
