In practice, significant modality differences usually exist between visible and infrared images, which makes visible-infrared Person Re-Identification (VI-ReID) a challenging research task. Due to the existing influence of pose variation, background changes, and occlusion, there are often outlier samples within the set of images from the same person. These outlier samples can adversely affect the process of learning the cross-modal matching model. The existing VI-ReID methods mainly focus on learning cross-modal feature representation by using image-level discriminant constraints, i.e., the distance between the truly-matching cross-modal images should be smaller than that between wrong-matching cross-modal images. However, most of these methods ignore the adverse influence caused by outliers. To solve the above problems, we proposed a Point-level and Set-level Deep Representation Learning (PSDRL) approach for VI-ReID in this paper. By using the set-level constraint in the process of deep representation learning, the discrepancy between visible and infrared modalities can be decreased, and the adverse effect of outliers can be weakened. By employing the image-level constraint, the discriminability of the obtained deep feature representations can be improved. Extensive experiments are conducted on the publicly available cross-modal Person Re-Identification datasets, including SYSU-MM01 and RegDB. Experimental results demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed approach. © 2022 IEEE.

Segmentation of rat heart section images and infarct area quantization are essential components of infarct size measurement in processing data from animal experiments on ischemic heart disease. Previously, the task of measuring the infarct size of rat heart sections was performed manually by experienced researchers, which was very costly and time-consuming. In this paper, we propose a two-stage semi-supervised approach to solve the task of ischemic heart infarct size calculation in images of rat section images. The approach uses a semi-supervised semantic segmentation model and a semi-automated quantization algorithm to separate the differently stained regions of rat heart sections. We demonstrate the results of the approach on a rat heart section dataset, and experiments on this dataset emphasize the effectiveness of our approach compared to other methods. © 2022 IEEE.

Image operation chain detection techniques have gained increasing attention recently in the field of multimedia forensics. However, existing detection methods suffer from the generalization problem. Moreover, the channel correlation of color images that provides additional forensic evidence is often ignored. To solve these issues, in this article, we propose a novel two-stream multi-channels fusion networks for color image operation chain detection in which the spatial artifact stream and the noise residual stream are explored in a complementary manner. Specifically, we first propose a novel deep residual architecture without pooling in the spatial artifact stream for learning the global features representation of multi-channel correlation. Then, a set of filters is designed to aggregate the correlation information of multi-channels while capturing the low-level features in the noise residual stream. Subsequently, the high-level features are extracted by the deep residual model. Finally, features from the two streams are fed into a fusion module, to effectively learn richer discriminative representations of the operation chain. Extensive experiments show that the proposed method achieves state-of-the-art generalization ability while maintaining robustness to JPEG compression. Lightweight Fine-Tuning a Pretrained Protein Language Model for Protein Secondary Structure Prediction

Pretrained large-scale protein language models, such as ESM-1b and ProtTrans, are becoming the fundamental infrastructure for various protein-related biological modeling tasks. Existing works use mainly pretrained protein language models in feature extraction. However, the knowledge contained in the embedding features directly extracted from a pretrained model is task-agnostic. To obtain task-specific feature representations, a reasonable approach is to fine-tune a pretrained model based on labeled datasets from downstream tasks. To this end, we investigate the fine-tuning of a given pretrained protein language model for protein secondary structure prediction tasks. Specifically, we propose a novel end-to-end protein secondary structure prediction framework involving the lightweight fine-tuning of a pretrained model. The framework first introduces a few new parameters for each transformer block in the pretrained model, then updates only the newly introduced parameters, and then keeps the original pretrained parameters fixed during training. Extensive experiments on seven test sets, namely, CASP12, CASP13, CASP14, CB433, CB634, TEST2016, and TEST2018, show that the proposed framework outperforms existing predictors and achieves new state-of-the-art prediction performance. Furthermore, we also experimentally demonstrate that lightweight fine-tuning significantly outperforms full model fine-tuning and feature extraction in enabling models to predict secondary structures. Further analysis indicates that only a few top transformer blocks need to introduce new parameters, while skipping many lower transformer blocks has little impact on the prediction accuracy of secondary structures. Predicting retail sales is a hot research topic that can help firms achieve on-demand procurement. That can reduce the extra costs caused by an inventory shortage or surpluses. Traditional methods usually regard the sales of a certain product as the independent time series and then solve the task by a curve fitting model. However, the sales volume is not a single value, but the one aggregated from many types of products. There are correlations between different types of product sales. The increase in one type of product sales may lead to changes in sales in another type. Without capturing the correlation between different product sales, it is difficult to obtain satisfactory performance. To solve this problem, we propose a new multi-task method based on multivariate time series learning. Considering there are multiple product types and each type has different trend characteristics, we first cluster the time series of all product types and then model each as a multivariate prediction task. We then design a new dilated convolution network to fusion the features of related products and the trend characteristic of each task. Moreover, we develop a trend structural entropy network to grasp the fluctuation features of the task. A new self-enhancement mechanism is proposed to finely capture the correlations among tasks. Through multi-task learning, the model can effectively improve prediction accuracy by using the complementary information of closely related time series. Experimental results on two real data sets show the effectiveness of our approach. © 2022 SPIE.

With the application of efficient retrieval in information systems and retrieval augmented generation with vector database for large language models, hash coding algorithms have made progress in recent years. The rise of transformer technology in the field of deep learning has brought the possibility to further improve the effect of hash coding algorithms. We introduce the vision transformer framework to both images and audios, and propose a novel approach for the tasks of multi-label image retrieval and audio event retrieval. In the proposed hash coding model, global and local equilibrium distance constraints are integrated, so that the hash codes for images can be better obtained through the global hash centers and local similar samples. In order to realize end-to-end training and hash code generation for audios, we adopt the adapter of mel spectrogram, thus the proposed approach can be simply converted and applied to audio hash coding. Comparative experiments verify that better results can be achieved on multiple image and audio datasets. © 2024 IEEE.

Urban scenes are full of street entities with sign boards. Therefore, in autonomous driving, street view text spotting techniques will play a significant role in the precise understanding of surrounding scenes during driving, because texts contained in the images usually provide important clues for accurate image understanding, while it is often ambiguous for existing computer vision algorithms to understand scene images without texts. In this work, we propose a Multi-Segmentation network for character-level scene Text Detection (MSTD). The MSTD introduces a densely connected atrous spatial pyramid pooling module to enlarge the receptive field of the feature extraction layer, so as to localize long as well as large-sized text instances. Moreover, it devises a double segmentation subnetwork to utilize two independent but inherently complementary losses to co-optimize the network and increase the reliability of the confidence scores in predicting the text/nontext areas. With the character instances detected by the MSTD, one can easily perform scene text spotting with classic object recognition networks such as ResNet and DenseNet. We carried out extensive experiments on nine scene text datasets to demonstrate the outstanding performance of the MSTD on character-level and line-level text instance localization and scene text recognition, where the MSTD significantly outperforms the state-of-the-art scene text detection methods and the sequence-to-sequence-learning-based scene text recognizers. © 2020 IEEE.

Multi-band terahertz metamaterial absorbers offer new perspectives to achieve perfect absorption and multipoint information matching, which enable an ever-growing number of applications. In this study, a dual-band terahertz metamaterial absorber based on the metal split ring is designed. The absorber has perfect absorption peaks at 1.15 THz and 2.47 THz, and the absorption rate is more than 99%. The absorber produces a harp peak with a bandwidth of 0.008 at 2.47 THz, which has an extremely high quality factor of 308. The distribution of the electric field and surface current at two resonance points is analyzed using the finite element integration method. Through full wave simulation calculation, the maximum sensitivity of the analyte refractive index of the absorber is 400 GHz/RIU, and the maximum sensitivity of the thickness is 35 GHz/μm. The results show that the absorber can achieve highly sensitive detection of trace substances. © 2023 SPIE. All rights reserved.

This paper first describes the principle of convolution neural network. Convolution neural network (CNN) is proposed to deal with pattern recognition problem on the basis of neural cognitive machine. Convolution NN is a multi-layer neural network, which each layer is composed of multiple two-dimensional planes, and each plane is composed of multiple independent neurons. In this paper, the principle and design idea of MapReduce based on large-scale data are described in detail.
